That's a hell of a gesture by Tony

That's a hell of a gesture by Tony

I just spoke with Tony about this bout and "precedent". And how this will NOT be happening again.

He is going to grade the Botha wins as a WIN. He is going to refund ALL the wagers on the underdog Carrion. A push/lose for him....so it isnt ever about money as so many people naively think.

Now this speaks volumes on his integrity and also on his tolerance to hostilty.

He and I are in agreement that if anything remotely similar happens in future, our grade will stand unless we are sent the video of the fight with undisputed proof.

Sugar gets you more than Vinegar 100% of the time.

Have a good night guys.

That is one hell of a nice gesture by Tony.

I agree with the "sugar and vinegar" comment, Joey, but we are only human and sometimes our emotions get the better of us.

I can never recall anything quite as bizarre as what went on in Germany at that fight.

GW- I would be way out of line to speak for his bizness decision on booting a player. That's all btwn him and Wee.

Just passing along the info we discussed on this particular bout and how it relates to the fight wagering game in the future.

fair enough.....just figured i`d ask...

Update tonight on fightnews.com:
Botha-Carrion Update

The WBF heavyweight title fight between Francois Botha and Pedro Carrion in Dessau, Germany actually ended in a draw last Saturday night. There was some confusion about the result after the bout and only Botha?s hand was raised. Scores were actually Matteo Fratini 115-115, Tonio Tiberi 114-114, Jean-Marcel Nartz 115-114. Botha retains the title. It was also confirmed that Botha broke the metacarpal bones in his hand in the fight.

Well, I am glad you guy's will be getting your refund.

As for 5 Dimes and Tony, I don't like being spoken to in a "My word is Law" condescending manner, like I am shite stuck to the bottom of his boot that is an annoyance to him.

I won't be kissing his or anyone elses arse.

He is a condescending, arrogant, self righteous Prick, as am I.

It is what it is ;)

Found it on youtube (at least the decision):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrLOCGlOXrw

My German ain't perfect, but I know numbers.
No question about it.
115-115
114-114
115-114 Botha
Ring announcer announced DRAW. Crowd booed.

Problem occurred when the referee raised the hand of Botha alone. Remember, Botha is from South Africa, Carrion is Cuban, and the ref was Brit Ian John-Lewis. None of them, I assume speak German. Someone should have pulled the referee aside and explained the announcement. What a disaster.

And yes, Romi, you are correct. Botha must be blowing someone to keep getting these bogus decisions. I didn't score one round the White Buffalo.

Thanks for info and for taking your time to clarify this.
I played Botha in European book and the bet was a winner till about 1hr ago when they regraded it as a loss.

Tony eventually did the right thing but he wasn't being very conciliatory initially about the situation but eventually relented when he realized there were a lot of pissed off players (and rightfully so) so he made a generous decision. Reputation is all you have in this business and if its compromised, it can have an effect. He knows that.

The scores were announced a draw. A clerical error or reading error shouldn't cause a loss for a player. It wasn't as if any significant time passed before the word was out that it was a draw. Bottom line it WAS a draw at the venue and should have been graded as such. The extra hoopla surrounding the situation was completely unnecessary. A quiet draw grading correction from the get go would have sufficed.
