I read it myself and thought it was a good piece. It explains countless fights. Perhaps a little unfair judging and biased reffing but no robbery. I had dough on Dirrell and from what little I saw, I thought he was winning but I also give credit to aggression when fights are close and I can't argue giving the fight to Froch. Pretty big of Graham to say this even though he picked Direll in his column and I thought he pegged both title fights on the button. Most journalists will make every argument in the book to validate their pick. It's often why "press row" is split on many fights.
For a change, I find myself not in agreement with Graham and it has nothing to do with validating my pick.
I think if Dirrell had stood toe to toe with Froch, he could have dummied him as he was much faster and hurt Froch a couple of times during exchanges.
He did not have the balls to take any chances and you can't do that fighting away from home.

I had a great feed to watch this fight and Froch was lucky to have landed 4 clean shots the whole fight.
This is Boxing and the object is to try and hit without being hit. Dirrell did this to perfection.

Almost all the shots Froch landed were in the clinch and they were FOULS. If we are now counting foul shots, then Froch did great.

As for that Fukin ref, even the Brit commentators at one point pointed out that he warned Dirrell after Froch committed the infraction by pulling Dirrells head down. It must have been force of habit.

Thank God Willy Pep is not fighting in the modern era. Winning a round without throwing a punch, not in this day and age.

I know punch
it seems inconceivable
I never saw that fight, but I did lose money on it
I had the UNDER 9.5 at close to even
I think I remember hearing that Shannon Taylor sparred with Abraham a few years before that bout....Arthur must have carried old Shannon....it seems the only explanation (for me)

Tim Starks had Dirrell winning 10-2 and called it a robbery, Im on the same boat. If you go round by round and compare meaningful punches landed, it's a landslide, at least 10 to 1 for Dirrell.

It was not pretty. But this isn't some Tae Kwan Do aerobics contest, it's a boxing bout, based on EFFECTIVE aggression, and damage inflicted on your opponent. This isn't about who wanted to "fight", it's about who won. Based on the critera of who is making it a fight, you may as well score Baldomir over Mayweather. Dirrell completely controlled the action and made Froch looked incompetent.

Froch moved forward clumsily and landed as clsoe to nothing as possible. Dirrell fought cautiously but landed 90% of the noteable punches in the bout.

I almost felt as if I was watching a different fight than everyone else, though apparently there are credible people who saw it the same way as I did.

"the bunker"
i think if you reread hurricane eddie`s post,it basicallty covers what happened....

dirrell probably legitimately outscored froch.....but,froch was the aggressor....wasn`t really very effective....but dirrell did an awful lot of running and holding....if he`d fought even a little more urgently in the first 6 or so rounds,it would have been very difficult to give it to froch....

note that a point was deducted from both visiting fighters......life is difficult for a visiting fighter in such a high profile bout....

When Dirrell bum rushed Froch after hurting him in the ninth he smothered his own power.
That shows me his mind was already set on safely outpointing Carl when he entered the ring.

And Dwyer was right, Dirrell isn't ready for the big time. The scary thing being he declined at 27 to put it all on the line to become WBC champ ; what is it going to take ?

Does he just want to get paid ?

All right, here we go. Busy week in and out of the ring. Excellent insight, debate, and opinions on the forum this week. Big money week, and my plays are as follows:

Dirrell - Big. Dirrell too fast and electric. I think he has the potential to be a very special fighter. Some learning curves early, but I think he puts it together here, and beats the hell out of a willing Froch.

Licina - Med. Smart money seems to be going on Hernandez, but I really don't see why. Hernandez is not just a little chinny - he is like that Glass Joe guy from the old video game. The way he collapsed against Braithwaite was embarrassing. To be decked hard, and almost out by Michael Simms even more so. Licina has looked tough to me, perhaps a bit crude. Hernandez will be winning on points until he gets flattened.

J.Taylor - med/small. I just like him in this spot. I think he knows his career is in deep shit if he loses. Abraham is damn strong, but a bit plodding, slow, and often not quite active enough. Taylor is extremely sharp early and will build points. The big question is stamina here, and I think Taylor will find a way to solve his apparent issue, and win a hard-earned points decision

Also small wagers on Hunter, Ayala, and that Perez tough guy over hyped Brandon Rios. Perez fought him to a disputed draw not too long ago, so why he is at +500 I have no idea. Rios is over-rated and this fight is all but even money to me.

Someone on forum said Hunter was bigger than Booth and looking sharp. I agree. Not long ago Hunter was thought of as very near world class. Booth a former fly, with a loss to diminutive Ian Napa.

Ayala is much-improved and a hard worker. This could be the right medicine against a skilled, but less than urgent Simon.

Good luck to all. Let's see how it unfolds. :box2:

Well, if there is one thing that has become abundantly clear, it is that I don't know what the fuk I'm talking about.

You want to make some real money, do the opposite of what I say each week.

And I like to think I know boxing...what a joke! Funds seriously depleted.

Agree with Old dirty. You are way too hard on yourself. If the Dirrell fight goes the way that most saw it then it becomes a profitable week. Shit happens sometimes and no reason to hang your head. You are a good capper and a good addition to the site. You back your all your picks with sound reasononing. I know you will get it back. Keep posting!!!

maybe it was a rhetorical question, but anyways.

Shannan Taylor kept a very high guard against Abraham and was content to go the distance. Abraham usually waits for openings and Shannan didnt give him any, so he went to the body most of the time...

Quanah, dont be too hard on yourself! ;-)
