I think Hernandez is way over rated, the guy doesn't impress me at all. He looked horrible against Morales, couldn't get off one effective punch let alone a combination. I made some cash on Chavez at +money over Hernandez based on that performance. Chavez fought Morales one handed and still looked more skilled.

Pacquiao is not the greatest fighter, his resume has some questionable losses. But he's only 24 and most of his losses were early in his career. He seems to be improving rapidly and now has Roach in his corner. He also fights with plenty of energy, which could overwelm the older Hern by outworking him.

It just seems like one guy is on his waty up and the other on his way down, and Hern was never that great to begin with. I think Pac has a much better chance than the odds suggest, I'll take a shot at +375.

I liked the over also, but the fight was resheduled for 10 rounds and no new line has surfaced.

they better give him some laxatives or he's not losing 3.2 lbs in 50 mins. how can you come back an hour later and have gained weight? unless he was exercising like crazy before the weigh in then had some fluids and weighed in again. he's gonna be exhausted for this fight tomorrow night

i can`t imagine how he comes back in after 70 minutes....weighing almost a pound and a half more.....

he must have gotten on the treadmill...definitely in the steam room........

maybe he`s not ready...and is looking to get out of it....

i can`t believe that....that seems ludicrous for a guy like castillo....

Obviously Castillo is not trying to lose the weight.

Once he weighed in 2 pounds over, he knew that he couldn't loose that much weight in 2 hours without completely draining himself, so he didn't bother and started replenishing fluids. He's hoping the fight still happens despite the belt not being on the line.

It makes sence, he can either lose the weight and lose the fight b/c of it, or keep the weight and have a much better chance of winning.

We thought this fight was hard to predict before...now we have another unknown to deal with.
Personaly I like the under even more now.

the really funny part is that the team doctor tried to slip his foot under the scale....and they suspended his ass...

lmao....

one thing i have to believe....that castillo still wants to win badly.....as redemption....

it should still be a mou fou...

i just hope...that for whatever reason...that castillo didn`t go halfway in training.....as a boxing fan....

he`s now $120,000 lighter in his back pocket...

that's just ignorance on his camp's part. i'm sure today wasn't the first time he magically was a couple pounds overweight. maybe he should fight at a different weight if he can't make weight. box good point about him not wanting to lose the weight and be depleted for the fight. i hope he loses now just for not making weight. i was gonna root for him but not anymore.

i agree...box was right on with his comment....

what surprises me is the sloppy nature of castillo`s preparation....

hard to believe that the guy made the weight less than a year ago...and really disn`t come close this time...

what i wrote about residual damage from the first fight.....maybe the age...along with the punishment.....equals "a bridge to far" for castillo....

we`ll see.....makes it all the more intriguing to me...

Just out of interest, having a look around some of the books, there seem to be some very 'generous' looking odds on offer for early stoppages by either fighter, in light of this news regarding the weight issue and probable depletion of Castillo, these odds are looking increasingly appealing.
I'm talking about anywhere from 66/1 ranging down to approx 20/1 on each guy to win by stoppage within the fist eight rounds.
Just curious as to whether any of the more seasoned boxing player's have actually had much success with 'dutching' a number of these different props to hoefully return a profit ?

Sorry it has taken myself so long to chime in on today's events...Interesting how Box interprets this...

I think Castillo is done. He will likely not get a rematch regardless of this result..My only concern now is will Corrales be as aggressive or box a little more which could hinder my under and Corrales to win inside the distance play?

I read a final update in which both camps agreed to a 3pm weigh in tomorrow...

Corrales gets 50% of the $120,000 fine...

castillo`s been getting away with his gatti impression for quite awhile...he really is a welterweight fighting at jr lightweight and now lightweight....

i made a very small play on corrales early on at -120...wish it had been more now...

i wonder...if 135 was impossible to make...where castillo`s legs will be after about the 6th round tomorrow night?....castillo doesn`t usually stop guys early....

that late round push that castillo usually has might not be there...

i guess you can no longer call this a lightweight bout...

so many things to think about...

What does this really indicate? Was Castillo not training; is he not focused as he should be; does he REALLY want to go to war again? In one boxing site Castillo claims " I am 1000% ready". I'm sure many of you have read the article. Myself, I am always suspect when a guy has trouble making weight. A mental edge for Corrales I would say, and a distraction for Castillo.
Motivationally, I'd say Chico is ahead of the curve. A loss and the titles become vacant. A win for Castillo and he wins, but no titles. I'm not saying Castillo does not want a victory, but will he fight the good fight; the warrior fight that is? Will he just lollygag his way through the fight and try not to get KTFO? As flipper said, Bob Arum is crying once again. After the weigh-in cheating attempt and the ensuing embarassment, I'd say Castillo is dismayed and Corrales is more focused than ever.

Hope you are right Frank...From reading different quotes, it does sound like Castillo camp is in total disarray...

I didnt realize if Corrales loses the titles become vacant...I thought I read that he retains the titles if he loses??? I hope you are correct in this regard..

GW, when and where did you get a -120 on Corrales if you don't mind me asking...Lol, I have been shopping this fight since day 1 and never saw anything near a -120???

Box,

So who is the "real cheater" now?? :mj07:

(I'm just playing with you Box.)

This quote was from espn.com by Castillo's manager: Updated: Oct. 8, 2005, 8:10 AM ET

Win or lose, Corrales will keep beltsBy Dan Rafael
ESPN.com

LAS VEGAS -- Former two-time lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo three times failed to make the 135-pound weight limit Friday, rendering his much anticipated rematch with champion Diego Corrales a non-title bout.

The fight will still go on Saturday night (Showtime PPV, 9 ET) at the Thomas & Mack Center but it will be a 12-round non-title fight. If Corrales loses, he retains his unified titles.

AP Photo/Jae C. Hong
Castillo failed to make the 135-pound weight limit three times.
Castillo, who was drawn and appeared drained, weighed 137 pounds on his first try. Given two hours to make weight, he returned to the scale outside at Caesars Palace an hour later and weighed 138?pounds. He was the same weight on his third attempt.

Corrales, who won the first bruising fight on May 7 with a miraculous 10th-round TKO after being knocked down twice, was 135 pounds on his first attempt.

Because Castillo failed to make weight, Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Marc Ratner fined him the maximum 10 percent of his $1.2 million purse, or $120,000. Half of that will be added to Corrales' $2 million purse, and the other $60,000 will be paid to the commission.

Ratner also fined and suspended a member of Castillo's entourage for trying to manipulate the scale on Castillo's second weigh-in attempt.

Dr. Armando Barak, Castillo's physician who also works in his corner, was fined $1,000 and will not be allowed in the corner on Saturday night. He was caught trying to raise the scale with his foot to try to make it appear as though Castillo was lighter.

? If you don't want it that way, then there's no fight. I don't give a [expletive)]. ?
? Jose Luis Castillo promoter Bob Arum, initially upset at an impasse reached with Diego Corrales' promoter Gary Shaw on a proposed Saturday weigh-in. Eventually, the sides compromised
Ratner said the commission reserved the right to further discipline Barak.

After Castillo's third failed attempt to make weight, Corrales promoter Gary Shaw and manager James Prince, and Castillo promoter Bob Arum and manager Fernando Beltran tried to work out an unofficial weigh-in on Saturday to assure the Corrales camp that Castillo wouldn't have too big of a weight advantage.

Shaw proposed a 3 p.m. PT weigh-in for Castillo with a maximum weight of 146 pounds. Arum offered a 5 p.m. PT weigh in with a 147 maximum. Shaw also asked for $75,000 per pound if Castillo was over again.

CORRALES-CASTILLO II FIGHT CARD
Showtime PPV Saturday 9 p.m. ET
Thomas & Mack Center
Las Vegas, Nev.

? Lightweights: Diego Corrales (40-2, 33 KOs) vs. Jose Luis Castillo (52-7-1, 46 KOs), 12-round non-title bout, rematch.
? Showtime PPV: Tale O' Tape | Vote!
? Flyweights: Jorge Arce (40-3-1, 30 KOs) vs. Hussein Hussein (28-2, 21 KOs), 12 rounds, rematch, for Arce's interim title.
? Junior lightweights: Carlos Hernandez (41-5-1, 24 KOs) vs. Bobby Pacquiao (25-11-3, 11 KOs), 10 rounds.
? Junior welterweights: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (22-0, 17 KOs) vs. Jeremy Stiers (9-4, 6 KOs), 6 rounds.

The sides couldn't agree and Arum and Shaw engaged in a loud shouting match with both men cursing at each other.

"If you don't want it that way, then there's no fight. I don't give a [expletive]," Arum screamed at Shaw.

Shaw, Prince and trainer Joe Goossen then left, leaving the Saturday unofficial weigh-in limit and time unresolved.

But later Friday, a compromise was reached. Ratner will oversee a 3 p.m. PT commission weigh-in with a maximum limit of 147 pounds.

If Castillo is over the limit, he will pay Corrales $75,000 per excessive pound. Corrales made weight and is not subject to the second weigh in.

"I am very sorry. This is not correct," Beltran said. "I'm fine with the sanctions and I'm sorry. It's not correct for the fans."

Beltran disclosed that Castillo had fired trainer Tiburcio Garcia two weeks ago and blamed Barak for allowing Castillo to balloon in weight in his final weeks of training.

Few realized that Garcia was no longer with Castillo because he is still here working with Jorge Arce, who will fight on the undercard.

"This is the most important fight of Castillo's career and he is usually very responsible in his training but for this fight he was irresponsible," Beltran said.

ps- Did you guys know Castillo changed trainers about two weeks ago per that article?? Although I heard this about a month ago so I don't know if he has changed trainers once or twice for this bout?

Forgive me if I am repeating something already said (scanned through but busy at work) but my boxing informer told me some guy named Goosen said Castillo could barely walk to his second weigh-in. I just took the last book that had only -125 on Corrales...3-way so I hope there is no draw.

5dimes has -155 / +135

The unders and ko props have gotten some attention since the weigh-ins. Not sure if the books adjusted the lines due to the news or due to money coming in b/c of the news.
