...he tried...

he was just out-quicked....

Exactly.
Usually he's the one outquicking others; he had no answer when it hapened to him.

Ward was beating him to the punch with his stick and move, Kessler was constantly retreating to avoid but at the same time couldn't come back with anything being out of position.

Rinse and repeat for 11 rds.
On the occasions Ward decided to stand and trade Kessler could score.
But then Ward kicked in the MMA stuff to protect his chin, and Mikkel didn't have an answer for it either.

Kessler strikes me as someone so dominant at what he was doing he never had to adjust to a plan B.

I don't see any other super six able to implement Ward's strategy.

I edited my post and essentially said the same thing. I thought the Great Dane was a bit scrappier but he didn't like the infighting or the rough tactics and really had no answer. I think Froch will key on that and make it as ugly as can be for Kess. When a ref doesn't help you out you HAVE to retaliate. I don't care for Froch at all but I think he's going to make for a rough night for Kess.
I think Kessler hammers Froch. I thought Ward's speed and stamina would give Kessler trouble just like I think Kesslers speed and precision punching will be too much for the caveman.

Styles make fights and I think Kessler will dummy the caveman.

I hope there are some juicy odds on it.

Controversy over Mayol win
Sosa camp cries foul

?The only way Rodel Mayol could beat me was by intentionally fouling me. He should have been disqualified,? says disconsolate former champion Edgar Sosa who lost his WBC belt on Saturday in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico by a very controversial TKO in the second round to Filipino challenger Rodel Mayol. Sosa, who was making his 11th defense, is in the hospital with a fractured cheekbone, the result of a clear head-butt on the part Mayol. Although Sosa, now (37-6, 21 KOs), was bleeding and clearly dazed, ring doctor Ibarra allowed the fight to continue and the Filipino boxer took full advantage of the situation, scoring two subsequent knockdowns that forced Referee Robert Ramirez to stop the fight and declare Mayol (26-4-1, 20 KOs) the winner.

Sosa manager Jacques Deschamps had this to say about the outcome: ?This is the third fight in a row which Mayol is involved in that ends in a controversial manner, with injuries to his opponent provoked by his head. The fact is that referee Ramirez took a point away from Mayol, which proves that it was an intentional, vicious, head-butt.?

About his condition after the head-butt, the former champion commented: ?I was really out on my feet and I couldn?t breathe. I had no time to recuperate.?

The Sosa camp is adamant about their intention to file a protest with the WBC: ?The result has to be changed to a non-contest because the intentional head-butt clearly provoked the final outcome. We are calling for a rematch once Edgar recuperates and, I assure you, Sosa will demonstrate who is the real champion. We have in our hands the videos and photos to show the un-sports-man-like actions of the challenger,? adds Deschamps.

G damn cheater Mayol is.....uses his head every fuking fight.....can't believe the doctor let this continue....

If Manny Pacquiao is my favorite Philipino on earth, Mayol is my least favorite....cheating bastard......I hope Sosa DESTROYS him in a rematch....this really is uncanny....I am finding new ways to lose money this year that I never even knew existed......

The corner blew it. The referee blew it. Sosa should have been given five minutes to recuperate. His handlers should have grabbed a chance, in the initial confusion, to whisper to him: "Say you're dizzy... Say your vision is blurry" ... in short, they should have done everything to get him out of the fight.

Mayol, of course, was on poor Sosa like a shark on a seal when the referee waved them to continue, and Sosa was virtually defenceless and too compromised to fight back.

Leaning over backwards to be fair, I will say that it wasn't ABSOLUTELY clear how badly the butt had affected Sosa until the inexperienced referee waved them to continue. As soon as Sosa started to try to move away from Mayol, I thought: "My God, his legs have gone!" And I scribbled in my notebook: "It's over!" even before the first punch in Mayol's follow-up attack.

Yes, Ghost, there seems no question that this verdict will be overturned by the WBC after a review of the video, but far too late for Sosa players.

Hey

First time checking all the weekend results as, believe it or not, I was away from all computers for a few days. Was actually fun to get the results like this, and read after-the-fact RBR's (thanks Romi, Ghost, and co.)

Well, another crazy week. Lost my 2 top plays w/Frag and Kessler, but won every single back end bet to end on very small loss for week.

From the sounds of it, Frag wins the decision if in Italy. I knew, even before I read result, from close RBR's that Erdei would get decision.

Excellent week of capping Graham...very impressive. Not only were you right across the board, but your assessments of how the fights will go down was also spot on. (Tajbert by dec., Erdei close, Ward shines) I hope you put your money where your clairvoyance was, and more than that, I wish to hell I had listened to you.

well done :box2:

Thanks Quanah ... I don't make a song and dance about it but I do have action on most the fights I preview, and a few posters on this forum are in touch with me and know which fights I am on and which I am staying way from.

One thing: If I write in a preview that I really don't have a clear idea of who is going to win, or if I lean one way but write that it wouldn't surprise me if the other fighter wins, it is my way of saying that a player should be very careful and that I am going back and forth in my own mind on the fight. (I was in this position with Gomez versus Soto Karass, swaying one way, then the other. I think that the fight itself reflected this indecision: Gomez got the W, but it would have been a technical draw had Soto not been docked two points for low blows, and I did think that Soto was coming on when the fight ended in the sixth.)

I usually don't post a preview unless I have gone into the fight quite deeply. Sometimes, in evenly matched bouts, I don't have a solid feeling until I actually start writing a preview, when the clouds of uncertainty seem to part a little bit.

graham`s column is an integral part of most capper`s(on this site`s) thought process in making a determination on a fight....i feel safe in making that assumption.....

i`m waiting for graham to stick his toe into the mma waters now that the sport has become firmly entrenched in the u.k.....;)
