Another week with some interesting boxing action ahead?.:)

As I said before I like to get a thread out early in the week, that way we will be able to get a better picture of a fight very early before the odds have dropped?.

Simpson vs. Truscott
Truscott defends his commonwealt title against gritty John Simpson.
Tuscott looks astonishingly similar to Paul Appleby who defeated Simson last year.
Both are about the same height and age and good boxers?.Appleby is a better puncher though?.
There seems to be some money coming in on Truscott who was a slight underdog and now is the slight favourite (not yet at all books though).
This is a close fight, but Truscott is the hometown fighter and might just eke out the win in the later rounds?Simpson seemed to be slowing down a bit in his fight against Appleby.

Truscott closed strong against Akaba?or that?s what I heard?
Would be nice if anybody could confirm this!?

So far I have no strong opinion on the fights next weekend?

Collazo @+425 (The Greek) is quite a heavy underdog...I also think this fight may go some rounds...Berto brings a lot of heat though ...

I've never seen Truscott, but Graham seems to think this is a very tough fight.

I am leaning toward Truscott because, like you, I thought Simpson was fading late against Appleby.

I have a different take on the Berto fight than most people...I have read a lot of support for Collazo on the forums. I think he is vastly over-rated from the Hatton fight...I think Berto absolutely waxes him.

I do think Quintero has a shot against Casal on Shobox.

I also think the over hits in the McGirt Jr. fight. Angel Hernandez is pretty faded, and McGirt can't punch his way out of a paper bag. McGirt will box his way to a pathetically scared decision.

Those are my first impressions. More later.

My early look left me undecided.

Simpson-Truscott
-pick'em, edit Truscott younger and at home
-I think edit Truscott wins and fights go over but I can't take over at offered odds

Murray-McAllister
-Murray probbably wins but odds on him are so low that I only see value on McAllister
-over again, but odds are untempting

Pozo-Rodrigues
-Pozo is at 1,2 which is again too low but he is Spanish fighting in Spain
-I'm thinking about under 9.5 3,5 sportbook

Alexeev-Ramirez
-here under 7 rounds 1,5 or 8 rounds 1,35 bwin looks like lock

Thats it from me for now, lot of fights this weekend.

I have never seen Ramirez, but this Alekseev is one bad MOFO
one of the easiest bets of last year was him to dust Rob Calloway

this guy looks to be the goods...but having not seen the opponent, I hesitate to take the under
by Saturday, I will probably convince myself to take it

Ramirez also has 11 early KO out of his 13 victories.
That's why I'm brave.
Somebody is going down here.

I'm on Yashiro: strictly boxrec but he looks to be better and I got on this early @-185. I've seen the line go to -290.

I also like alexeeve but the line is a bit wide IMO. I got killed on Gamboa and need to be a little more conservative this week though I'm fairly confident to recoup soon.

I read Santos pulled out of the martinez fight...was really looking forward to that scrap. Forrest is being considered but I'll be shocked to see him take that fight, short notice or not. if he does, I'm all over Martinez.

Simpson vs. Truscott
I am staying away from this fight as it takes place in Truscott's hometown.

Simpson comes from my hometown of Greenock which is a tiny shithole.
I am surprised he has done so well as there is only one tiny shithole boxing gym in the town.
It was so small and shitty, it didn't have any speedbags or accuracy balls. Just a ring, 2 punching bags, hand pads and a wall mirror to shadow box in.

I would have taken a chance on the under if it was 11 1/2 instead of 9 1/2 at +400.
Simpson is starting to crack harder than his record suggests and has a very mean body punch (This suggests to me that he done the wise thing and got the Fuk out of Greenock and found himself a good boxing gym).

I'm with you Romi on Sergio Martinez over old man Forrest - hope they make that fight

also just read Clottey-Cintron is a done deal for Feb. 21st (on the Cotto-Jennings card)....nice fight and money to be made I believe

Menzer vs Schouten for Saturday (on the Alekseev card)
over 9.5 is -225...these 2 minute chick rounds fly by

also considering the Berto under 10.5...but I guess that one is determined by what you think of Collazo

I like chicks overs also, but Schouten got KOed five fights ago by a girl with 3 KO out of 15 fights who never before KOed somebody with a win.
Still thinking about that one.

What about McAllister vs. Murray?

odds from bwin: fight to go over 9 -210 (1.45)!?

fight to go over 12 1.75, I think thats an equivalent of -125!?

I think I will stay away from the Menzer fight for the reason mentionned by olddirtyfighter....

I'm actually watching some clips of those british fighters...but so far I dont have a solid opinion!?

Murray and McAllister both seem to be up for this fight...Murray stopped Meager but Meager retired right after the fight and might have been over the hill...

Scott Haywood IMO might be worth a shot, but he took the fight on short notice...

well, but at least this fight looks like it will go over...

heyy, ghostkid, I'm really impressed that you dug out that information on Esther Schouten...I'm afraid not many people who bet on this fight knew about her illness.

Its Dean Harrison!?
ok, thats really short notice...maybe I did mix up the names..but if 5dimes still has up Haywood then it really seems to be like a few days to prepare!?

I might just stay away I guess...

I agree.
I think Berto wins on points this one. If Berto doesn't take him out early over should hit. Collazo is lefty and more experienced so I doubt he'll get cought in first few rounds and Berto in the middle rounds is usually satisfied with just winning rounds. Maybe he will get him at the end but over should hit.
That of course stands only if Berto didn't take too much punishment in his last fight against Forbes like some other fighters.

New Co-Feature for ESPN FNF

in addition to McGirt Jr., now we have:

Eromosele Albert -270
Germaine Sanders +210

Round Prop
Over 9.5 (-125)
Under 9.5 (-115)

My first instinct is the over. I will start to look at this one closer now.

@olddirty
Do you think Berto is damaged goods because of the Forbes fight!?

@ghost kid
Thats an interesting prop!
I would like to know though, if Sanders was already in training....

He also hasnt fought in about 10 months, he is 38 years old, and Albert is a jr. middle...

Not at all Zervas.
I was just being sarcastic towards de la Hoya. Against PacMan he looked like he was ruined by Forbes in his last fight :)
It still hurts. Maybe it is a combination of betting more than you usually bet on the guy you don?t like and his loosing a fight without much of the effort.

Ghost,Thx for pointing out the over on Albert/Sanders. I think it's a good bet and the price -125 was a bargain. I took it for a max wager. Sanders has only been stopped by Reid and reid was very dangerous at the time. Sanders went the dst with soto karass and jones in his last 2 and both those guys can punch a little bit, especially Jones. He was also somewhat competitive in them. I'll be a little surprised if albert gets him out.
