This is a mismatch of course, but to what proportions? I'd say extreme. This McCloskey dude has fought a who's who of cream puffs and tomato cans. Really ultra low level competition. Kahn wins this "fight" anytime he wants. Does he want to do it before 7.5 or does he want to get some work in? If Mc gets cute Kahn may have to punish him. I really want to bet the under. This is a joke.

I'm gonna go ahead and disagree here. I think Kahn's speed is going to be a big factor, but I think there are some other variables in play.

This could be a let-down fight for Kahn, after big Maidana win. I don't undervalue this. This is the fight of McCloskey's life - and it's a tune up for Kahn.

Kahn seems to have gotten his chin issues in order. If he can stand in there with Maidana for 12, you've got to respect his improvement there. I still consider him vulnerable though. McCloskey is a more precise puncher than Maidana - a boxer puncher. I would not be shocked to see McC hurt or drop Kahn.

I do think the under is a good play. McC will not fight to survive.

Small big upset play on McCloskey for me.

JuanMa-Salido

JuanMa-Salido

JuanMa has been a cash cow for me. I like him as a fighter. But I think he's going to get shocked here. I agree that JuanMa has been suddenly shaky. He's explosive, and makes great fights, but he gets wobbled. I also agree that Salido is a very tough customer.

I would make JuanMa no more than 3 to 1 here.

With most upset plays this size (like McCloskey) I just figure there's a chance, fav should win. But here I think Salido has got a very real chance to pull it off.

Salido is the call.

Berto-Ortiz

Berto-Ortiz

I'm not ready to say Ortiz has no heart. I think when a man gets his heart questioned like he has, he would die for a do-over, and Ortiz has got that chance here.

No question Maidana fight was not good for him - but he did have Maidana down 3 times and was on the brink. He is young, first big fight, first time hurt, and he did not react well. But I'm sure he wishes he could have that moment back.

The pressure is in many ways off Ortiz here. He's not the guy in the spotlight and is a big dog. This will also help him to put in a stellar performance.

I have been impressed with Berto, but a scan of his record does reveal protection. Quintana fight was good for him. I don't put much stock in last Hernandez fight - but any KO1 is a good result. Tough scrap with Collazo. I remember David Estrada fight was tough too. Other than that really all setups. Berto is good no doubt, but I think Ortiz is far and away his toughest test.

I think Ortiz surprises and gets a great win.

I think Khan crushes McCloskey.
He is too quick.
I know Quanah thinks this might be a let-down fight after the big Maidana win.
I think the opposite, I think Khan was lucky to survive Maidana and will be out to prove a point at the expense of McCloskey.

I also give Ortiz a shot against Berto at +400. I think he is far more comfortable at this weight class.

Good luck fella's :toast:

McCloskey hasnt been down or hurt as far as I know and he has an air of confidence about him.....on the other hand I'm not sure if it would be wise for him to rely on his reflexes vs. khan as he usually does...

Gotta agree with weepaul on the Khan fight.

Not a letdown spot by traditional definition. Homecoming in front of his fans - he will be more up for this if anything.

Khan:

?I worked harder than ever in this camp because I know now I?m the big name in the division and one of the big names in the sport and everyone around this weight is looking to beat me,? Khan said. ?I?ve got a target on me. It?s made me want to go to the gym even more and work even harder than I have. There are great boxers out there who are working very hard to put themselves in a position to take my title and steal my limelight.

?That?s driven me. I have focused on being the best I?ve ever been for this fight, because the only way good things happen to me is if I perform at a top level against (McCloskey). That?s what I intend to do.?

"?We have a great plan,? Freddie Roach told Telegraph Sport. ?Yes, McCloskey has an awkward southpaw style, but he makes too many mistakes and we?re really going to take advantage of them."

Kahn-McCloskey

Kahn-McCloskey

Hmm? Lets see; we have Freddie Roach, fighting in his backyard, younger, faster, more polished, has seen much better competition. So much for Amir Kahn. I just cannot overlook the horrid caliber of fighter McCloskey has fought. Look at their records; absolute cannon fodder. How does beating scrubs prepare a guy for anything? The last guy Mc fought was Barry Morrison, whom he defeated. But the last guy Morrison fought was a guy named Billy Smith that boasts the sterling record of 12-80-2. Looking at you tube of Mc he looks strong and fast, this is true. But to me, it is versus lollipops. McCloskey strikes me a being a bit of a bad ass, with his swagger. Keeps his mitts low. Don't know how long it goes, but Mc's 0 will go.

Nice guys! Love to hear all the comments. Should be an exciting day.

I've got one more play, good size, on Ana Maria Torres...mostly because she just looks like much more of a bad ass...

Torres up 2 weight classes, but I don't see this as a big problem here. Torres fought the better comp. She seems a very tough determined sort. I think she will want it more than Nava.

Salido ITD (+1233) :SIB

I would say that's as good a bet as Rubio or Ishura. Not likely to happen but certainly a possibility. I think Juanma is a vulnerable fighter and that the odds are a bit off. I'm hoping to cash my small play of +775. Good luck! Viva Salido!!!

Ortiz W12 (+1478)

hmmm not a bad line, but if you take into consideration that you geht him straight at +400 to +450 you would have to value the W12 option min 1/3 of the probability that he wins by Ko, Tko or DQ + not to forget TD and that you lose on draw.

Maybe 75$ straight and 25$ W12; so you enhance your return if he wins on points after 12 rounds, but you reduce your overall downside risk even if you picked the right fighter.

Just my 2 cents :toast:

How is being televised? Boxrec says HBO but I can't find it on the satellite. Also somewhere I saw it listed as UK Prime which I have no idea what that is? So where and what time; any help would be appreciated.

Same here :D
Was lucky to get Berto at -250 and made a sure bet with O. at +450 -> litte long on Ortiz, Ortiz points and fight not the distance. Lets wait and see whats going to happen.

Really looking forward to the fights tonight!
:0corn

BIG weekend for me with the Khan fight.

Good luck to you & the crew too!

Added Khan itd -225. Be a bit surprised to not see this hit. Unimpressed with McC when he fought Laurie. He was fortunate to get the Ko in that. He was clearly winning the fight but sort of caught Laurie on a semi-break. Euro level IMO...not world class. Khan nearly jacked Maidana early. Had him hurt bad and despite all the naysaying, I thought he showed some stones against a very determined fighter. Khan really beat up the usually durable Mags. McC doesnt have the defense IMO to hold off Khan. I think the gulf in class here pans out. Hopefully the recent spate big fights not expecting to go the dst and did, ends on this one :0074
