I see Miranda as crude and even lethargic. I don't think he'll bring more than Andrade. I expect him to plod forward behind a modest workrate and hit a lot of gloves or air. Wide dec for the Montreal transplant. Goosen won't add much to this guy. He can punch and is strong but I think he'll struggle with such a fast stylist.

I agree. Last 3 times Miranda was in the ring with elite fighter he ether got beat up hard or he lost almost every round. Bute's scare he got from Andrade in the first fight is not a bad thing entering the Mirada fight as he will not get reckless. I still see Miranda as a bully who will put a beating on a weaker guys but who got beat up a few times and now he doesn't believe in himself any more. Hence, he asked Goosen to teach him how to box. But mixing with his style so late in career is never a good thing and he will think to much in the ring.
Bute is my big bet for this weekend.

These guys post a clear, visible weigh-in without a lot of distraction and in a timely manner. Very well done.

HBO, Showtime and ESPN often fall short on getting proper info up in a timely fashion, if at all. HBO and Showtime's site are inconsistent and horribly confusing to navigate. Sure they have some good content but not always what you want regarding their immediate bouts.

And ESPN has a decent boxing section but they often have no photo's or video's on the Friday night fights weigh in. Only a meaningless Tessitore monologue about the contest. They should do more there.

Huh?

Huh?

Fightnews:What do you know about the strengths and weaknesses of Renan St. Juste?

Dionisio ?Mister Nocaut? Miranda:
His strength is to show up to the fight and get up to the ring apron. His weakness will be not being able to get up from my punches.

My biggest wager for this week is Denton Vassell.

hadn't even checked this one out, but I respect your opinion
I will check into this one Andrey
thanks !
:toast:

Like others who have posted, I like Bute over Miranda. Goosen says he has Edison prepared, but I'm not sure it will be enough in Canada against a VERY good fighter.

I think Edison only has the old "puncher's chance"

Thanks for good words Ghost and I do like Bute over Miranda too. I will be shocked if Miranda wins this one somehow. I wish Bute was not that big favorite.

Nice one on the Green wager Romi and co. I hit Green for what I could as well - which wasn't much - but a win is a win.

I would've like to have seen and over under on that one.

Weekend Picks

Weekend Picks

Some sites still waiting on some fights, but most are in. Gotta post picks now or won't get a chance.

First, hit Tony Thompson for what I could at -800. He's solid against Beck.

I must by now be getting a rep for going after dogs, but so be it... This week no different. I see four who I think have a very solid shot, and I'm gonna go with them. All medium type plays.

Lee Purdy (+300) Some people like the look of Vassell - strong physique and such - but insiders know that he has not looked that great against very marginal opposition. He was a good amateur, and is probably improving, but this Purdy kid is two or three steps up for him. In Purdy's favor, he got back his only loss against capable journeyman Peter McDonagh, which tells me that he is taking his career seriously and improving. I think Purdy looked pretty good in some video I watched. At plus 3 he's live.

Sergio Martinez (+155) First shot at middle for Martinez went very well, where he could have got the decision against Paul Williams. Fight against Williams, a big rangy middle, will serve him well against Pavlik. Martinez clearly beat Cintron and I think he is due for a breakout performance. His speed could be a big factor against Pavlik. I've always liked Pavlik, but he may have slipped a little. He really hasn't had a real fight since Hopkins whopped him, and victory over Rubio was very unimpressive. Talk of a little extra boozin' on the side may be just talk, but I haven't seen that fire from him in a while. He'll need it here, or Martinez will beat him.

Domenico Spada (+180) I am not a Zbik fan. Dude has got no strength at all. His lass performance against unknown was dreadful. I thought Spada beat him the first time. Just a little more aggressiveness from Spada this time will get it done. Of course German site is a big factor. I would not be surprised at all to see another 115-114 wn for Zbik, but I think he has peaked. Spada get's him.

Edward Gutknecht (+250) For reasons already hit on this forum. I'm not sold on Stieglitz, and Gut had a great performance against Balzsay. Gut undefeated so we don't know quite how good he is or isn't yet. I think he's better than fellow German prospect Wilasheck, who nearly beat Stieg.

That's the crux of it for now.

Good luck madmen!!!!!

My money is on:
- Vassell - Hey Quannah I see where you coming from regarding your bet on Purdy. Thing is although Vassell impresed no one till now, niether did Purdy and I found tempting odds at -286. He is also a promotor fighter here. 3u
- Thompson -517 3u
- Zbik - Again, odds made me playing this at -178 3u.
- Gutknecht +280 1u
- Martinez - Grabbed +175 early. Odds didn't move my way nearly as much as I thought they would. I hate hedging bets, but I don't know what will I do with this one.
- Bute -600 6u - Bet I like most this weekend.

Good luck guys :toast:

My only two money plays so far: Thompson and Bute.

I nearly had a heart attack yesterday when i saw Tony Thompson open -350 !!! This to me is FAR TOO LOW. Smarts bet this thing quickly up to -800 (where I thought it would open). 5d has him -1200.

I see two different levels of fighter here. TT's only loss in a decade is to Wlad. The guy is a good fighter.
Owen "What the Shit" Beck is an awful boxer. He made Barrett and Valuev look like Ray Leonard and Roy Jones (old Roy). The guy is slow and has ZERO technique.
-350 is an insult to Thompson, in my opinion. He just KO'ed Witherspoon, who I think would beat the piss and shit out of Owen Beck.

Second bet is Bute, and not much else to be said besides the excellent observations already stated by you guys. Bute on the rise, in Canada, at 168 pounds. Slicker and hits deceptively hard. Those body shots? He could stop Edison the same way he stopped Andrade.
Miranda seems to have lost a the fury, and never really had great skills. The book is out on this guy now. As my pal Romi reminded me, Edison has a very sneaky straight right. I think that's his only chance. I like Bute mid to late stoppage here.

If both these bets hit, I might play Martinez tomorrow night (assuming the Martinez-Pav fight is after Bute). But, truthfully, I see that as a very tough fight to call. Depends a lot on how serious and sober Mr. Pavlik is. I can't pick a winner here with strong conviction.

Good luck crew.

My plays

-Thompson to finish a few parlays with Green.
-Thompson straight -500. I thought that was a bargain.
-Gut +220. If this guy had a big punch, I'd bet huge on it but as is I think he can still get the job done. Nice assessment by Graham this week on it. I think this doggy bites.

In retrospect I wish I had taken Bute when the odds were favorable. I had in the back of my mind that perhaps Goosen could teach Pantera to set up his big shots but I only give Miranda a punchers chance, like Ghost said. Those plays on Bute SHOULD be solid. Goosen will be handed trainer of the yr should Miranda change his stripes and pull the big upset. I don't think it will happen.

I like Pav but no bet as of yet. I think the size and pop difference will begin to show by the 2nd half of the fight but I do think it will be VERY entertaining in the mean time. Depending how the other wagers go, I may have a play on Pav by fight time but nothing big...just want to simply enjoy a good fight for once and not be concerned about a wager. Props to HBO for putting this one on a NON PPV card.

Good luck Gents!!!

:also played the under on Thompson/Beck -165. I don't see what the heck Beck can do to win this fight and I'll be surprised if he can make it the dst.

Weigh In Video here:
http://www.boxing.de/

I agree with you Kramden, the weigh-in videos are largely ignored by ESPN, HBO, etc. in America. They get it right in the UK and Germany - what is so tough about editing together a 3 minute weigh-in video for your website? The boxing bosses in America are LAZY
