Weekend picks

Weekend picks

Hey's guy's what's up?

Sorry so late...

Trying to keep it more simple this week. Just two picks.

Chris Arreola (-115) - large. Going big on the big guy. I'm an Arreola fan, and I think this is a good match-up for him. We know both guy's well, and what we're going to get from them. Arreola's weight, while not ideal, is 13 pounds lighter than his last fight, which shows he's working. He's got great stamina for a big guy, keep's his punches rolling, and is of course tough as nails. Vitali pummeled Arreola all night, and although he took a beating, Arreola was never 'hurt'. I don't think Adamek can really hurt Chris. As for Adamek, I'm not sold on him at heavy yet, and I think he will find Arreola very strong in there. Adamek's win against Estrada was not impressive at all. I think he won it by just a round. A lot of talk is made of Adamek's stamina, but I thought he got tired against Estrada. He was also weary late against Cunningham, and although some years back I still remember his two LH slugfests with limited Australian banger Briggs. Briggs even had Adamek down. I respect Adamek, and I think he has proven himself a very tough and solid fighter, but I think he's bitten off a little more than he can chew against Arreola.

Lotsa love on the forum for Arreola, and I'm happy to see this has turned into a team play!

Etsuko Tada (-115) - medium rare - I'm not going to pretend to know too much about these ladies, but from what I can gather, Tada is the higher standard of fighter here. I have read that she is considered one of the very best Japanese female fighters. Asian female fighters seem a pretty high grade, and tend to perform reasonably well on the world stage. South American and Caribbean female fighters, not so much. Ramnarine, from Trinidad and Tobago, was inactive for a long stretch, and has been fed a steady diet of South American imports in her return. I know that her last opponent, Cardona, hasn't got much left at all, and she went to an 8 round decision with Ramnarine. Ramnarine has 5 losses, while Tada is undefeated. Fight in Trinidad and Tobago is a concern for sure. That's a along way from Japan, and 10 2minute rounds can fly by...but I think the class difference will be clear.

Best of luck Weepaul and Garden Weasel on your Kessler play. I love the confidence behind the pick, and was gonna make a small play behind you guys, but I don't have a strong feeling, and am really trying to keep it simple here.

Good luck boys!!!!!!

I got this one -110 and agree there may be some value here. The opponent has lost to some pretty crappy fighters...if this fight is in Japan I think Id bet it big but since it's in tobago i'll keep it med rare like you...GOOD LUCK!

hey ghost, did you find a stream on Kessler?!

It seems like the board is big on Arreola and Kessler.

I like Kessler as well. IMO the most likely result is Kessler by decision. If Froch is to win, it will most likely be after a long and tough fight...
Actually, I'm a bit surprised that the over is @even money. Neihter Kessler nor Froch has ever been stopped or seriously hurt....
I played over 8, 9, 11.5 for 2 units, Kessler straight for 1 unit, plus some small bets on Kessler by dec and a doublechance for the last 2.5 rounds...

As for Adamek vs. Arrealo
I'm obviously in the minority, but I?m leaning Adameks way.
IMO people are a bit harsh on him for his performance against Estrada.
I think that this version of Estrada would beat all of Arreolas opponents (with the obvious exception of Vitaly of course ;-)).
Adamek is 5 lbs lighter for this fight and I expect him to be a lot sharper, IMO he looked really good against Golota (even though Golata is far away from his prime).
Despite all of Arrealos claims that he?s a different fight now, and that he would come into this fight weighing 240 lbs, he still weighs 250 lbs, which is much better than his last fight?but its still hardly impressive.
Adamek has that ?not be denied? attitude, he has good chin and good boxing skills.
I like the over 9.5 (hard to see an Adamek ko) and Adamek WPTS (+285).

I also have Angulo for 1 unit, though I must say I dont like the rumours that he's having trouble with his weight and apparently Julio is taking things seriously now.
Anyways, Angulo really should win (and most likey stop) Julio here...

Adding one more play

Adding one more play

Martin Concepcion vs. Kevin Hammond Over 9.5 -145 - Small -WIN

Mikkel Kessler by Decision +140- Medium

Christobal Arreola -110 - Large

* Estuko Tada - 115 - Small
Jumped on the Quanah bandwagon here. Ria hasn't fought many fast southpaws. Except Yvonne Caples who appearantly got robbed of a decision over Ria in 2005. Tada should win a UD over Ria as long as the judges are honest.

"On May 27, 2005 at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago Ria (104? lbs) won the WIBA Mini-Flyweight World title over Yvonne Caples (104? lbs) of Berkeley, California by a very controversial 10-round split decision. Ramnarine went down in the second round after she missed with her right and Caples caught her with a clean left to the jaw, but Ria came back with a game effort later. Trinidad and Tobago judge George St Aude and Derek Herbert from Barbados both gave Ramnarine the fight 97-93, while Andre Thorne of Guyana had it 97-93 in favor of Caples

Trinidad Express reporter Ian Prescott wrote that "In the first round, Caples had the edge, setting up the local contender with the long right jab. Ramnarine was always open to be hit by her opponent's left and was stopped in her tracks every time the American connected. Ramnarine tried bobbing and weaving, but she was always that second slower than Caples, who stuck the jab out and moved away before Ramnarine got set to throw her fists. A quick left from Caples sent Ramnarine to the canvas in the second round. Caples looked the better fighter, mixing up her punches, jabbing to the head and stomach and dishing out the occasional uppercut and hook. Ramnarine, on the other hand, wasn't getting anything off. Caples won the fourth round and looked good landing a left to Ramnarine's jaw. At that stage, every local supporter was worried, but Ramnarine had a better round, and might have actually won the fifth. The sixth saw Caples sticking out the jab and disappearing out of range. She also landed several lefts flush on Ramnarine's face, but the round was fairly close. A wicked uppercut tilted Ramnarine's head backwards as Caples rushed out at the start of the seventh round and proceeded to dominate. Ramnarine looked to undo the damage by being more aggressive in the eighth. She threw a few combinations, but Caples again landed the cleaner punches. Ramnarine landed a solid right to the American's jaw in the ninth, but Caples delivered good combinations. And by the tenth round, all but Ramnarine's most loyal fans were silent. The final round was the best of the fight as the T&T pugilist mixed it up. Caples, though, landed the cleaner, harder punches and clearly won the round...not according to two of the judges, who saw it as a clear loss for the American."

Prescott also reported that "Many in the local boxing fraternity felt Caples had won by a landslide. Tansley Thompson, a local boxing promoter, manager of Commonwealth Games silver medallist Kertson Manswell and former close associate of ex-WBA light heavyweight champion Leslie "Tiger" Stewart said that while he is no boxing judge, Ramnarine might not have won a single round. "If any of my boxers have to win like that, I'd rather lose," Thompson said. "From what I could see, it was a case of Ria needing a knockout to win the fight."

Analysis of the scorecard by the Trinidad Express showed that the judges who favored Ramnarine also did not credit Caples with a 10-8 round for the knockdown. Match supervisor Molly Boxhill said Herbert was aware that Ramnarine had hit the deck, but did not see it as a knockdown, despite the fact that referee Tommy Thomas sent Caples to her corner and gave Ramnarine a standing eight count.

According to WIBA President Ryan Wissow "Yvonne absolutely dominated Ria for the first half of the fight, but Ria kept the pressure on and Yvonne tired a little, slowed down just enough for Ria to win some rounds down the stretch. This fight was not the worst robbery I've ever seen, it was a competitive and entertaining fight. Ria showed me a lot just by her heart and her conditioning which was excellent. She took a lot of clean shots early on and kept coming, kept throwing punches. She wasn't as accurate as Yvonne but she threw more punches, especially in the late rounds, and Ria was the one coming forward most of the fight which may have also swayed some rounds her way. Caribbean and South American judges score heavily for aggression."

Controversy had surrounded the staging of the fight from the outset after Trinidad and Tobago Boxing Board president Melchior Taylor refused to allow it to go on without an all-local panel of judges. Taylor's decision was backed by members of the Trinidad and Tobago Boxing Board of Control who felt there were competent judges in the country. WIBA President Ryan Wissow wrote about the judging issue: "The Trinidad commission was only going to allow Trinidad judges to work this title fight. We had to beg them to let us bring in two neutral judges. The judges were selected by Molly Boxhill, the WIBA Vice President. The Guyana judge had Yvonne winning the fight, but the Trinidad judge and Barbados judge had Ria winning. ... I requested that a Trinidad judge named McKenzie Granger work this fight, but Taylor insisted on ... St Aude ... who scored it for Ria."

Good Luck Guys!:D

Nice weekend so far Monroe and Monroe starts 9 cashed in; the same for Concepcion/Kevin Hammond over. :)

Froch vs Kessler (very Big)
DCs, Draw, over 8,9,10 Kessler, Kessler by Dec/TD, Kessler by MD ...
Maybe hedge with Froch by late Ko / Dec.

Adamek vs Arreola (mid)
Draw, Over and Adamek by Dec so far

Alfredo Angulo vs Joel Julio (very small)
Angulo and Angulo inside

Parlay on the Draws (I know nearly impossible to happen but you never know) ;)

Good luck to the Crew. (especially for the Kessler fight as some nearly bet their house on it if I am not mistaken)

Cheers

I suspect Froch would be the favorite if this fight was in the UK and most likely higher than Kessler - 130 at some european bookies now . We will find out if Kessler is damaged goods or not cuz Froch always bring it even if he isn't the best boxer out there . Logical odds would seem to be Kessler - 200 if not higher but they aren't ...

So Munroe thankfully did his thing yesterday.
Today I am on Areola, Kentikian-Raoui over 6, Beltran Jr and two large ones Kessler and Angulo.
From the rumors flowing around it seem I should worry more about Angulo than Kessler.
I lost big time when Kermit beat Angulo so if he fucks me again I'll never bet on him again.
A large part of board are in the same boat again so good luck guys!!!!

i think ,at least to a certain extent, the euro odds reflect boxing`s huge popularity in britain....as opposed to denmark....

the boards are flush with brits picking froch to win...and my guess is their money is following closely behind....

that helps the kessler bettors get excellent value...

that and the "last fight" mindset of many wagerers....lets not forget that froch hasn`t exactly covered himself in glory in this tourney...he`s an eyelash(homecourt and .14 seconds) away from being 0-2 himself.......

maybe i`m whistling past the graveyard...but i don`t think so...

True , I guess there are a lot of '' Froch believers '' . Hopefully Kessler can bounce back from the Ward loss , it's not like he has faced anybody worth a cent after Calzaghe loss ...

and froch`s two toughest fights have been a shot taylor and a relatively green dirrell...

other than that,pascal at home....

the guy`s not exactly a road warrior...

but,who knows...we`ll find out in a few hours...

This is why it's alway's good to have a couple of British books if you can get them.

Most British books still have The Fat Nipple at +110 over Adamek.

My bets will be Kessler over Froch VERY SMALL :mj07: . Don't be surprised if Kessler busts that huge beak of Froch with his ramrod jab.

Kessler ITD- If Froch does his "I am Caveman, I can't be hurt" routine, he will find himself on his arse within 7 rounds.
If Dirrell had committed, he would have clobbered Froch. Kessler WILL commit.

I think the Nipple beats Adamek. He throws punches in combo and has pretty good stamina for a fat Fuck.
I can't get the image of Paul Briggs going life and death with Adamek out of my mind.
Chris is a 70 pound bigger version of Briggs.

guys- do you think this fight in 2 hours goes OVER 7.5 rounds?

Susi Kentikian vs Nadia Raoui

This fight could go either way becasue Nadia is untested and could get overwhelmed by Susi who has all the experience. But neither fight is much threat of for a KO. I would stay away from it even though most women's fights go the distance.
