A Must Watch for Boxing Fans

Boxer Francisco "Paco" Rodriguez told his wife, Sonia, that he wanted to be a hero. But that dream seemed shattered after Rodriguez slipped into a coma and was declared brain dead after losing a title fight in Philadelphia. Through organ donation, his uncle and four women received a gift of life.

This piece is 16 minutes of your time well spent. An amazing story. Gutted me to watch, but very very moving.

If it won't load here on the page, watch link: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=6390758&categoryid=3060647

Brutal stuff Eddy.

I have to admit, that story made me cry like a baby. Rough rough world. When the baby touched her dad's heart - damn that really got to me.

Makes me appreciate breathing air each day.

By all accounts of that night, the referee did a good job. Nobody saw the collapse coming.

But many times, in these cases, it's not the night of the fight that creates room for tragedy. It's a previous bout.

When Benny Paret was tragically killed in his fight with Emile Griffith, most attributed his susceptible state to the absolutely ruthless beating he took from Gene Fullmer the previous bout.

Deceptively good week.

No huge fights but a lot of interesting match-ups.

Why you gotta do that to me Ghost?

That was really a moving piece. So sad and inspiring at the same time.

I'm sure Paco is proud of what he was able to give those people.

Absolutely. Very very tough to watch.

I know times are tough right now. The economy stinks. But they have set up an account to donate to the Paco Rodriguez Estate.

Badlefthook.com has the details here if any are interested:

Maidana Camp clowning Ortiz...should they really be talking?

Maidana Camp clowning Ortiz...should they really be talking?

Not sure Maidana should be clowning anyone.

He is dogging out Victor Ortiz, who just became a world champion.

Maidiana barely made it out alive against old ass Morales.

Nevertheless, here is what the Argentine camp released today:

"So sorry, I forgot to congratulate Victor as he was finally able to find another weight class to crown himself!!!"

rumor has it that Dan Rafael is leaving ESPN to become the matchmaker for HBO. Smart move by HBO. Say what you will about his writing but he's passionate about the sport. I did he'll do great. BTW, does HBO even have a matchmaker right now? Or do they just take Al Haymon's word for what would be a good fight?
