never heard of this guy fighting Dallas Vargas on ESPN next Friday, but with a name like Gayrat Ahmedov, I wouldn't want to be in a dark alley with him.

My grandmother named my dad "Joy". He had his name legally changed and never told his kids his birth name. He became a certified bad ass in his day in Tacoma and was good enough to be invited by Freddie Steele (future middleweight champ) to be his sparring partner.

Well, party's over...back to another slow week. Seems the most significant fight of the week takes place on a Wed. in Australia. Shumenov fight is worth the watch as well. Nuthin' on Sat. though.

Why all the love for Danny Green:shrug:. He's on a decent run but the guy is really not elite level by any stretch. Briggs has been out 3+yrs and Briggs was only stopped very early in his career. Briggs gave Adamak 2 of of toughest goes as a pro ( of course MANY moons ago). I think Green wins here but is it really out of the question that Briggs pulls a major upset? Is Briggs just looking for a payday? I know one commission refused the fight so is that indicative that Briggs is really damaged goods and really has a medical condition as rumored? No wager for me but wondering how people see this. The lines have moved from -550 to as high as -1500 on one site. All it takes is one good punch and you have to figure Briggs is going to let it hang out...or is Green easy money -800?

I agree!

A few years ago, I'm sure Briggs would have been a decent favorite.

But, of course there are some questions about his healt, and the long layoff is definetely a concern.

No play for me either!

Briggs just took a dive in 1st rnd. Red it on another forum. No details yet, just that everybody is furious including Green. Aussie boxing is unbelievable. Briggs was the only top guy there I respected fully and now this ...

The Sydney Morning Herald carried a story on the day of the fight saying that Briggs had been physically sick (vomiting) at one of his workouts and was rumoured to have been outpunched six-to-one in sparring sessions. Either the word was out that Briggs was a totally shot fighter or the rush of late money was from people who "knew something", who knew that, for whatever reason, Briggs wasn't going to hang around too long and take punishment.

It looks to me as if Briggs took the money and ran, because he hardly seemed to have got hit in the fight video I saw, but whether all that late money (the money that poured in on Green in the last 24 hours) was from sharp players who realised that Briggs was a shell of his old self, or a day-of-fight betting coup, is something we don't know.

Briggs had a reputation as one of Oz's all-time toughest, gamest fighters. Now he is in disgrace. It is too bad.

I assume you meant Briggs. THe lines went crazy yesterday. Green -1500 by fight time and the under was something like -360 with the over +300. Scalp options available for those that got on early.
29 seconds :142smilie :142smilie :142smilie. The guy was a bit of a cult hero b4 and now he'll forever be remembered for taking a dive. By most accounts that is exactly what he did. Hopefully Green will put an end to this circus show and fight a live body. Unfortunately the odds of him taking on a live body are slim and the chances of him taking on Cameroon are big. Danny Green has taken a page from HOP...big rewards/small challenge.

Briggs with one of the all time fake jobs....terrrible. I should have known once he came in 8 pounds over and said he was "out of his comfort zone". How can he be paid for this? It doesn't seem right.
