Yes, I meant Briggs

Yes, I meant Briggs

I assume you meant Briggs. THe lines went crazy yesterday. Green -1500 by fight time and the under was something like -360 with the over +300. Scalp options available for those that got on early.
29 seconds :142smilie :142smilie :142smilie. The guy was a bit of a cult hero b4 and now he'll forever be remembered for taking a dive. By most accounts that is exactly what he did. Hopefully Green will put an end to this circus show and fight a live body. Unfortunately the odds of him taking on a live body are slim and the chances of him taking on Cameroon are big. Danny Green has taken a page from HOP...big rewards/small challenge.

Yes, I meant Briggs. I edited the post to make it make sense.

Speaking of circus acts, PT Arum is now going to put Jr in with the ever so dangerous jr middleweight Pawel Wolak in Sept. So much for the alleged fight with Cotto or Pav. I said several weeks back that those fights were utter nonsense and there was NO WAY Arum was going to risk his cash cow with somebody live. He's squeezing every last drop of leche he can get out of Jr as well as every last peso from the poor Mexicans. For Christ's sake he won't even take on perrenial gate keeper Ishe Smith. Instead he's going to feed Jr, Smiths whipping boy. No worries because AFTER THIS ONE Jr will fight a top contender :142smilie :142smilie :142smilie :142smilie :142smilie :142smilie :142smilie :142smilie

Briggs' 29-second fiasco has bookies fearing a fix
http://www.smh.com.au/sport/boxing/...has-bookies-fearing-a-fix-20100722-10ley.html

"BETTING agencies will today demand that the International Boxing Organisation launch an investigation into the farcical result of Danny Green's title defence in Perth last night against Paul Briggs, fearing a fix.

Green's angry reaction to Briggs's capitulation within 30 seconds rivalled that of the stunned audience's. Briggs went down to a glancing jab that appeared to hit his glove, not his head, and he stayed down for the full count. The fight was over in 29 seconds.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars were lodged with bookmakers yesterday on the result being a first-round knockout, and it's likely they will withhold payment until an investigation is concluded.

Too many people knew about Briggs's problems for this fight to have been staged. It was an utter embarrassment.

Briggs was ushered out of the arena, sheltered from flying bottles, and bookmakers were quickly scrambling.

Green screamed at Briggs: ''You f---ing dog'' as the referee waved off the contest.

He added soon after: ''Paul Briggs is not getting paid a cent. That is criminal, what he did. I will rise above that canine and apologise."

Barry Michaels getting stick in Oz

Barry Michaels getting stick in Oz

the fightnews article is terrible..why are people afraid to tell the truth?...Briggs needs to be called out for this dive
http://bit.ly/9DaBVk

It seems that the Aussie fans are giving Barry Michael some stick for insisting in the TV commentary that Briggs got hurt by a hard jab. I am now wondering if Briggs should have been in the ring at all. He has had well-known medical issues. The New South Wales boxing board kicked the fight out of their state. I saw only a fleeting clip of the weigh-in, and Briggs looked a bit soft in the middle, but people who were there say that Briggs looked AWFUL, not just soft but with patches of grey in his designer stubble. He looked in fact like a guy who shouldn't have been in the ring. Maybe he was so far gone physically that ANY sort of a punch would have tipped him over?

1st round KO bets for Green won't be paid out in Australia

1st round KO bets for Green won't be paid out in Australia

more:

"Betezy, whose affiliated Fightbet offshoot sponsored the fight, is not paying on the first-round knockout until it gets an official response from investigators.

''It looks very suspect,'' said Betezy general manager Ryan Kay. ''He didn't hit him, he has touched him and he has just taken a fall.

''We will be taking this to higher levels with the IBO.''

The heavy betting prompted Kay to call the Green camp earlier in the day, asking if the fight was legit."

I don't care what kind of shape briggs was in, he flat out took a dive. I could have the flu, gout in my foot, migrane headache, and hadn't eaten in days and I could still take a jab to my gloves and I don't even fight.

Briggs was known for his ability to take a punch.
Why, oh why he acted so stupid??
Couldn't he waited for Green to land something decent?
Take a look at Oz forums. Everybody hoped he will win. Everybody sad that this is a guy who deserve a title for being hard and honest fighter.
I don't know how much he earned but he will be sorry forever.
I bet Green straight in one irish book and got paid.

the punch did glance off `ees noggin`.....barely....

could the early jab to the midsection have made briggs realize that he made the wrong decision to return?...

....smelled this coming 10000 miles away...

I went on air to -1400 then -1500....not on bets.. My O/U and Side went to big scalp with the whole planet after I woke up to small scalp the weigh ins... I went from 9.5u-160 straight to 9.5u-285....big move looked irresponsible ...but hindsight being 20/20....saved a ton...

and ....if this didnt wake up the dead....NOTHING Will... & went to 1/2 limit no pars...

Wow, even on first round KO. Maybe Briggs people indeed tried to cash in. I hope it is not a true though because it will be pretty huge scandal.

EVEN MONEY RND 1 !!!!!!!!!!!
What a farce !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nope, I've never seen a prop that low in the early rounds, Joey...not in my lifetime....

As dirty as it gets.....in fact, I reckon I've never seen a poorer acting job....IMMEDIATELY to the ground.....only Seldon against Tyson is comparable....
but even Seldon hung around for 2 minutes....

Briggs will never live this down....I wonder how much money he was SCHEDULED to make....He shouldn't get a dime

Never in my life had I heard of such a thing. This is v the guy that went through hell w/Adamak. I agree, the guy shouldn't get a dime. I not only think he took the dive but he wanted the world to know that he did as well. In HIS mind he kind of saved face by not really giving it an effort. His name will live in infamy. If he has kids, they'll need to change their identities.

Opponent change for Gonzalez

Opponent change for Gonzalez

Colombian boxer Aristides Perez (17-2, 10KOs) has replaced Ira Terry as the opponent for former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez (44-7, 38KOs). The fight happens on Saturday in Campeche, Mexico for Gonzalez's WBC FECARBOX featherweight title. Perez promises to bring the belt back to Colombia.

Perez returns from a five round knockout loss to Eduardo Escobedo. The Escobedo fight also took place in Mexico. Perez wants to avenge his loss. The other loss on his record was to current WBC lightweight champion Humberto Soto. The fight will be broadcast from the Manuel Priego Gym by Televisa.

"This time I will not fail. The chance to beat a Mexican will not escape me again, you'll see," Perez said. "I come from providing a great fight, but unfortunately there was a clash of heads that created a cut and I could not continue fighting. That's why I say that this time will not fail."
