Just got back from the fights at Staples Center:
A few thoughts, but first of all - POOOOOON !!!!!!!!!!
My favorite Thai guy EVER !!!!!!
:00hour :00hour :00hour :00hour :00hour
about the fights tonight:
Jonathan Banks and Javier Mora were both pathetic. The guys who took Banks were right - BARELY. One judge had it a draw and I can't argue with that. I had Banks by a a score of 5 rounds to 3. Banks practiced the jab and grab all night. You can tell he has been sparring with Wlad. Mora pushed forward the whole fight, and would have won but for the fact he was tired after 6 minutes. Banks landed a couple good counter shots, but was mostly content to jab, hold, and run away the whole fight. Terrible fight.
Molina SHOCKED the hell out of me when he KO'ed Hinojosa in one round. Perfect body shot. Made me think more highly of Molina (and also made me wonder what the hell Robert Guerrero was doing against Hinojosa).
The main event was as expected - just maybe a few rounds longer. I thought Vitali would get him in about 6. Arreola tried his best - tons of heart - but he was getting whacked to the body and his head was bobbing like a pez dispenser. He basically did slightly better than Sam Peter and JC Gomez. That's not saying much. The live crowd was cheering for every glancing blow Chris landed, but I only scored 1 round for Arreola from ringside.
I will say this about Vitali. He is hard to watch, but almost IMPOSSIBLE to beat. I don't think Chambers can do it. I don't think Haye can do it. I can't think of anyone who can beat him right now. You have to get low and inside. You have to be super fast and work the body. And you have to be willing to take some punishment to get there. Maybe Mike Tyson could have done it in 1988. But I can't think of anyone who can do it right now.
Vitali is SUPER SMART in there. Terrible fighter to watch. But the way he moves backwards is VERY EFFECTIVE. He was circling the ring all night, but he rarely (that I can remember) touched a corner. He looks awkward, but HE KNOWS WHAT THE FUK he is doing in there. SUPER tough to beat this cat.
