Going to make several other plays on this fight but now that this line is available , I will take it.

I was almost certain that Sultan was going to be the underdog in this fight.

They are obviously trying to get people to take the + 170 and Briggs.

I can hear the public now. Man , Shannon Briggs is going to kill this kid. I am getting on this now....
....blah blah blah....

alot of reasons behind this boxing wager.

I will post the ones I have found that justify this play.

Briggs' Plans for the Future

Briggs admitted that he doesn?t want to fight forever and that 2008 will be his last year. Already Briggs is planning for life after boxing, as he hopes to use his celebrity, experience and marketing ideas to create opportunities for other fighters through Fighters, Inc.

?We go out to get licensing deals for fighters,? Briggs said. ?We have a trading card deals for fighters. We have 25-30 fighters. You watch a Gatorade commercial and you see actors. There are no boxers. We have a video game coming out in the next two years. Bobble heads are in production.?

?I?ve been on TV, in movies and commercials. I?m a go-getter. I?m not against working. My dream job is to work at Blockbuster with free movies at my disposal. I?m not beyond working. Boxing has been great to me. But I?ve had my ups and downs.?

Right now Briggs is on top looking to become the first fighter in boxing history to unify the WBO, WBA, WBC and IBF heavyweight championships. Mike Tyson, the youngest heavyweight champion at age 20, became the first fighter to unify the WBC, WBA, and IBF heavyweight titles in 1987.

?I?m going to clean up this mess,? Briggs says of the heavyweight division?s current state.
................................................................

Anytime a fighter talks about future retirement especially Vs a up and coming unknown fighter, it spells big trouble. Exact same scenario when Tyson fought the unknown kid talking about his future retirement. Bam .... Good night sweet prince.

If Briggs comes in over 265 lbs this fight is in the bag. Briggs is very vulnerable in this fight.

Home is where Briggs? Motivation Is

Briggs is motivated to continue fighting through his two children Chann, Cayden, and girlfriend Alana. Briggs continues to deal with the bad wrap from writers, networks, and promoters because he simply refuses to quit and still finds boxing enjoyable.

?I have fun,? Briggs said. ?I?ve met so many people, so many chicks. I?ve traveled the world ? Poland, China, Puerto Rico, and all over the United States. I?m good at fighting. I like to workout. I enjoy the celebrity status that comes with it. I?m definitely a success story.?

?What?s more important is Chann and Cayden,? Briggs added. ?I?m not trying to sell myself to the public. I?m 35. I?ve got two kids. I don?t want to fight forever. I want to be able to leave this game and play with my two kids. I?m fighting one more year. I?m not the great fighter that Holmes was. I?m not going to B.S. myself. I?ll fight a couple more times.?:scared

Now living in Florida, Briggs respects his past and accepts his realties.

?I surpassed all of that. I live in a $1.1 million dollar home and I laugh myself to the bank,? Briggs said. ?It?s just real.? :142smilie :142smilie :SIB

Briggs? title-winning effort against Liakhovich was Briggs? 12th consecutive victory by knockout. It?s the longest knockout streak of Briggs? career. Briggs attributes his success to his determination to prove people wrong, his refusal to quit, and a change in regimen.

?I had to change my plan,? Briggs said. ?I have to knock people out. Some guys are naturally stronger with timing. I?ve been concentrating on strength. Weight-training and balance, hitting the bag a half-hour straight. That?s what I?ve been doing over the last couple of years.?

The last time Briggs knocked out nearly as many opponents was when he started his professional career in July of 1992. Briggs knocked out his first 8 opponents, 7 in the first round.

?Ibragimov will be number 13, first round,? Briggs stated emphatically. ?That you can take to the bank. I beat the man, who beat the man. I beat Liakhovich, who beat Brewster, who knocked out Klitschko.?

Briggs also countered numerous rumors of having been knocked down by Sultan in a sparring session. There is also talk of Briggs ducking Ibragimov because his southpaw style may present too many problems.

?I never sparred with him at all,? Briggs said. ?That?s completely untrue. I sparred with his cousin Timor. He said he knocked me down. He must have KO?d me because it didn?t happen.?
.......................................................

From what I can find, Briggs has never fought a left handed fighter, or if he has its been a long time ago.

Sultan will present bigtime trouble for Briggs with his style. The kid is a awesome puncher and
has the intelligence to wait until Briggs tires , stay away from Briggs early bombs, and clean his clock.

I love the fact Sultan is bringing it left handed. Briggs will not be able to adjust.

Ibragimov is the rarest of heavyweight contenders. He's a southpaw volume puncher.

Those who have watched Ibragimov ringside for his entire career will testify that Ibragimov is well ahead of the heavyweight averages for punches thrown per round. Heck, Ibragimov is ahead of the lightweight average for punches thrown per round.

"He is exciting, wait until you see him, he's the next great one," I was told by Ibragimov's adviser, Sampson Lewkowicz.

Ibragimov is not showy. And at 6-foot-2 and around 215 pounds, he is hardly a physical presence. What he is, though, is very good. He took the silver medal at the 2000 Olympics and has only gotten better as a pro.

One of the reasons he has improved is because of his commitment to do so. He trains hard. Real hard. :00hour :SIB :00hour ........................................................

Sultan is tough. He has a huge heart and will never give up.

BINGO !

Champion Shannon Briggs takes on challenger Sultan Ibragimov at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

The emphasis being on a few rounds because I believe there are three factors that will make this fight a short one, in favor of the champion.

Size

Briggs is 6?4 ? and will hold at least a 40 pound weight advantage. Camp Briggs he keeping quiet on whether he will come to the fighter lighter than he did against Sergui Lyahkovich, but regardless the size difference will be very substantial. Ibragimov stands just over 6 foot tall and does his best work a few pounds south of the 220 pound mark.

Experience

Briggs has been in the ring with five former champions: Sergui Lyahkovich, Ray Mercer, Lennox Lewis, Frans Botha, and George Foreman. Briggs also has been in the ring as a professional fifty-three times and this will only be Ibragimov?s 21st time.

The champion has also appeared on a number of high profile fights, including bouts on HBO, Showtime, and PPV. The challenger has appeared once, on ESPN 2. Briggs is used to the build up of a title fight while Ibragimov has only fought two opponents who have fought back. On his ESPN 2 fight Ibrigamov was lucky to walk away with a draw, after being put on the canvas by the light hitting Ray Austin in the final round. Ibragimov was also in a tougher than expected fight with unheralded Friday Ahuanya. Neither of those two fighters are anywhere close to the same league as Briggs.

Style

If there is an instruction manual on how to beat Briggs it?s to stay on the outside, use the jab, and outbox him while piling on the points. Jameel McCline did it to perfection and Sergei Lyahkovich did it effectively for 10 rounds before making the mistake of trying to fight Briggs? fight in the championship rounds.

If there is an instruction manual on how NOT to fight Briggs it might have been written by Ibragimov. Ibragimov likes to get inside and get in punching range. Ibragimov also likes to go toe-to-toe with opponents. Against fighters lesser than Briggs this is fine, but with Briggs he is fighting a man who has 42 knockouts who has knocked out iron chinned fighters like Lyahkovich and Mercer. Previous to that Briggs nearly knocked out Lewis in their title fight and knocked down Frans Botha with a single shot. As Austin showed in their match-up it appears that Ibragimov is wide open to counter shots, a Shannon Briggs specialty.

Before completion of halfway through the fight it will be goodnight to the Sultan.

Thanks Boxing News.

Thats why Briggs comes in as underdog +170:SIB :142smilie

gl Scott, and congrats on the May-De Over

Briggs will weigh around 270

I would be more concerned about Sultan's weight. If he shows up at 220 or less he'll be fine. But if he's up around 230 like the Austin fight, he could be in trouble.

....

I think he could be in trouble anyways. Sultan presses so hard early that if he don't get the KO he gasses a bit to quick. Sultan don't pace himself properly, has shit defense and a questionable chin. If he comes running at Briggs like he does a lot of times Sultan may end up KTFO. Briggs does still have power and quick hands as he showed in his last fight. Sultan better be carefull in this 1.

I have faced the facts that Briggs will bring his heavy hands early in this fight and he may get the KO.

What I am counting on is Sultan using his brain for something besides a hatrack, and staying outside for about 5 rounds.

Briggs was very lucky in that last fight. He looked bad but was able to still have the power late to KO the guy.

Briggs has a tendacy to blow up with his inconsistentcy. If he gets in trouble and cannot figure out Sultans lefty style and hard hits, Briggs will start to head case.

Seen many of Briggs fights and he has been more disappointing to me than anything.

The gamble here is can Sultan last the five rounds and then do what he has to do.

In my opinion Briggs will not fight one of his best fights. Sultan to win should get me the 500.

BOX

to me the weights at fight time will not have any influence on the outcome of the fight.

Its the power aspect of both fighters, that wins this wager.

Sultan can crack with both hands like lightning.

Briggs is susceptable to strong shots.

Briggs will more than likely hit the canvas at some point in this fight, the thing I dont know right now is how many times and will the result be KO.

I am more excited about watching this fight than any in the last few years.

A Star is born on June 2

Its a extravaganza

Boxing News 5/24/07

First up, on June 2nd, we have the aforementioned Briggs-Ibragimov clash in Atlantic City, N.J. Shannon revived his career with the last round, out-of-the-ring KO of Liakhovich last November, yet most expect to see him lose to the unbeaten Russian.

There is a lot on the line for Briggs, that?s for certain. Should he indeed lose, his career, at least at top level, would be over. I don?t think he will lose. Expect to see ?The Cannon? jump right on the man who went life and death with Ray Austin, in an effort to put him on the canvas. After he is successful in his attempts, look for the thirty-five year old to make sure the man he calls ?Iggy? remains where he put him, on the mat. Sorry, Oscar, but Sultan Ibragimov is no more the future of the heavyweight division than I am.

PREDICTION: Briggs KO 3.

..................................................................

This guys seems pretty confident of Briggs taking out the Sultan.

I wonder how much of the +170 he is on. I don't trust these published articles. I always feel they have a agenda on what they want the boxing public to read.

The differance in this fight will be the Sultans hard shots. Briggs don't like that chit homey.

Sultan didn't knock out Ray Austin and maybe he should have to make this fight a winner. Alot of times fighters just don't get in sinc with the opponant. They exchange shots alot but no seeming effects , even though they both may be big punchers. This almost always results in frustration, and goes into the 12th round for the over win. Fighting for points. This means they make no attempt to knock their opponent out (for this strategy leaves them vulnerable to knockout themselves) but try and keep themselves ahead on the punch count until the maximum 12 rounds have expired. The result is a dull and uneventful contest.

Down Goes Frazier Down goes Frazier..........
