Outright plays (1.5pts):
Sergio Garcia to win 33/1 e.w. @ BlueSq and UKBetting
Will be making his debut in this event, but he is certainly playing his best golf since 2002 and is capable of running with the best of them when in form. His last four finishes have been 6th, 7th, 6th and 9th, so the swing changes are clearly taking effect. Should be shorter odds even with Tiger and Vijay in the field.
Robert Allenby to finish in the top-five 10/1 @ SkyBet
Taking the safe option with the two remaining selections. Staring down the current Vijay or Tiger would be very difficult on a Sunday afternoon, but both together is a tall ask. The good news is inflated odds for everyone else and so decent place odds. Allenby has played this course previously (30th in 1999) and has continued to show good form since the end of the 2003 season. He won the MasterCard Masters in Australia and finished 14th in his first start of 2004, the FBR Open, two weeks ago. He should also be well-suited by the changes in 2002 to significantly toughen up the South Course at Torrey Pines.
Fredrik Jacobson to finish in the top-five 12/1 @ SkyBet
Tour rookie and so no course experience, but that hasn't stopped him finishing in the top-10 in four of seven PGA Tour starts since last summer. Despite his erratic driving, he has shown that he can manage his way around tight courses and will surely secure at least one top-5 finish this season. He was only two shots too many for that position two weeks ago in the FBR Open, so looks decent value at these odds.
