SAN DIEGO (AP) ? Steve Duplantis, a popular PGA Tour caddie known for bringing out the best in players, was killed early Wednesday when he was struck by a taxi while crossing a street.
Duplantis was in Del Mar when he stepped off a center median and into the path of a taxi, said Sgt. Randy Webb of the San Diego Sheriff's Department. The 35-year-old Duplantis was pronounced dead on the scene.
He was working at the Buick Invitational for Eric Axley.
A spirit after hours and regarded among the best caddies inside the ropes, he previously won four times with Jim Furyk early in his career, with Rich Beem at the Kemper Open and with Tommy Armour III when he set the PGA Tour scoring record at the Texas Open in 2003.
Axley was not immediately available for comment, and several other players for whom Duplantis worked were playing the pro-am Wednesday at Torrey Pines.

The mood was somber on the putting green, where some caddies were waiting on their players.
"He was a throwback," caddie Patrick Smith said. "He raised the level of every player he worked for. He could take guys who were marginal and they would play well."
Duplantis and his nightlife exploits were prominently featured in a book titled, Bud, Sweat and Tees, a story primarily about Beem.
"Regardless of his reputation, he was a great caddie and didn't have a bad bone in him," caddie Mark Chaney said.

I made a mistake dogs. I was running the firefox search feature with the pga tours tee times (didnt realize they had day 1 and day 2 on the same page):nooo:
--and just what did you plan to gain from that?
--bet they void them now--
Generally they do----generally get miss matches on courses--and tees-none yet this year--but get several throughout course of year without having them voided.
Best approach--say nothing--make your normal wager (don't load the wagon) and there is no prob. In fact if you want to post some as selections--just wait till just before tee off --and few will notice.
A lesson I learned years back--books will let you steal a little but not a lot. Have seen the days of place only wagers at 1/4 win go--have seen in running place go--we need to protect the books that have nads to put up something besides the Euro -ties lose and 3balls.
Look at # of unregistered lurkers here before tee off some time--I can tell you with some degree of certainty a few are Euro linesmakers and some other heavy hitters--and if you find profitable angle and expose it--they will burn it out in a heart beat.
Trust me on that.
Yea i understand what you were saying, the reason i mentioned it was because i figured they were smart enough to realize that when setting the lines. Otherwise its their own fault. As far as posting a wrong tee time or goofing up and putting am instead of pm or something like that for a line then thats an honest mistake. I usually keep book errors to myself.. and will from now on. :0corn
