Quote of the Day
“I don’t understand why we are not teaching our officials to call travel in this league. They do a great job and work their tails off and communicate well, but I see five or six travels a game that aren’t called…….the entire game is based on footwork. We need to enforce traveling violations and we are not doing it and I don’t understand why.”

— Rough week for the Dallas Mavericks and their fans; not only are the Lakers thriving with Luka Doncic in their lineup, but 32-year old Kyrie Irving tore his ACL Monday and is out for the season. Irving is the only player this season averaging 20+ ppg, shooting 40%+ on the arc and 90%+ from the foul line.
As if that wasn’t enough, Mavericks also raised their ticket prices 8.6% for next year.
— Super Bowl champion Eagles signed RB Saquon Barkley to a 2-year, $41.2M contract extension that makes him the highest-paid running back in NFL history.
Happy birthday to former Eagles/Saints DB Joe Scarpati; in 1970, he was the holder for Tom Dempsey’s 63-yard field goal, which for a long time was the longest FG in NFL history.
— Dallas Cowboys signed DT Osa Odighizuwa to a 4-year, $80M contract, with $58M of that money guaranteed. Odighizuwa would’ve made $25.1M in 2025 had the Cowboys put the franchise tag on him.
— For second year in a row, Cincinnati Bengals placed the franchise tag on WR Tee Higgins; he’ll make a guaranteed $26.2M next season. Higgins caught 73 passes for 911 yards and ten touchdowns for the Bengals last year.
— Milwaukee Brewers signed 36-year old P Jose Quintana for one year, $4.25M; he was 10-10, 3.75 in 31 starts for the Mets last season.
— Orioles closer Félix Bautista pitched a scoreless inning in an exhibition game Monday, the first time he was in a game since August, 2023, 556 days in between games.
Bautista had 33 saves for Baltimore in 2023, before he got hurt.
— Bronx P Luis Gil will start the season on the injured list with a shoulder injury; he is expected to miss at least six weeks. Gil was 15-7, 3.50 in 29 starts last season, was Rookie of the Year.
— First home run for the Houston Astros this spring was hit by Joseph Sullivan, a young OF who was picked by Houston in the 7th round of last summer’s draft.
Joseph Sullivan is the grandson of former NFL QB Pat Sullivan, who was a backup QB for the Atlanta Falcons for four years, after he won the Heisman Trophy in 1971.
