Monday's Tip Sheet
February 17, 2019
By David Schwab

ESPN?s Big Monday in college basketball kicks things off with a in-state ACC rivalry between No. 4 Virginia and No. 22 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. The backend of this doubleheader is a Big 12 battle between Kansas State and the West Virginia Mountaineers in Morgantown.

As a bonus matchup on Monday night in the Big Ten, Illinois will be on the road in Madison to face the No. 20 Wisconsin Badgers.

No. 4 Virginia Cavaliers at No. 22 Virginia Tech Hokies (ESPN, 7:00 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Virginia -5, Total 122

Betting Matchup

The Cavaliers had their hands full against Notre Dame on Saturday in a tight 60-54 win at home as heavy 16 ?-point favorites. They improved to 10-2 straight-up in ACC play with both losses coming against Duke.

Virginia slipped to 1-4 against the spread in its last five games with the total staying UNDER in four of those contests. With the exception of those two losses to the Blue Devils, the Cavaliers? defense has not allowed more than 65 points in any of its other 10 conference games.

Virginia Tech came up well short in its first game against its bitter in-state rival on Jan. 15 in a 81-59 road loss to Virginia as a 7 ?-point underdog. It has been an up and down ride ever since with a SU 6-3 record over its last nine games while going just 4-8-1 ATS in 13 ACC matchups.

The total went OVER 130 points in Saturday?s 70-64 win against Pittsburgh as six-point road favorites. It has gone OVER in four of the Hokies? last six games. They are only allowing an average of 61.1 points per game.

Opening Odds: Kansas State -8, Total 132

Betting Matchup

Kansas State is still holding down the top spot in the Big 12 by a half game at 9-3 SU, but it is coming off a 78-64 loss to Iowa State on Saturday as a 2 ?-point home favorite. This was just its second loss in its last 11 games both SU and ATS. The total went OVER 131 points in Saturday?s setback and it has gone OVER in the Wildcats? last five outings.

They are 19-6 SU overall with a 14-11 record ATS. This includes a 5-8 record ATS on their home court. Senior forward Dean Wade left the game against Iowa State with a foot injury. He is the team?s second-leading scorer (13.6 PPG) and its leading rebounder with 6.6 a game.

The Fighting Illini are 10-15 SU overall with a 6-8 record in the Big Ten. They have gone 2-6 SU and 5-3 ATS on the road this season.

The Badgers are coming off back-to-back losses (SU and ATS) to Michigan on the road and Michigan State at home to fall to 9-5 SU in conference play. They are 17-8 SU overall with a 14-11 record ATS. The total stayed UNDER 131 ? points in Tuesday?s 67-59 loss to the Spartans and it has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in 10 of Wisconsin?s last 11 games.

Tuesday?s 6-pack

Who will have more wins for this baseball season?

? Bronx (-2.5) vs Boston

? Bronx (-9.5) vs Mets

? Mets (even) vs Atlanta

? Cubs (-0.5) vs St Louis

? Cubs (-12.5) vs White Sox

? Phillies (-8.5) vs Pirates

Quote of the Day
?My door is always open to talk about playing time. If you want to talk about playing time, be prepared for the truth.?
Brad Stevens

Tuesday?s quiz

Who was the Knicks? coach the last time they made the playoffs?

Monday?s quiz
Michael Jordan played baseball for the Birmingham Barons of the AA Southern League; they were a farm club of the White Sox.

Sunday?s quiz
Gonzaga has the nation?s longest current win streak, 15 in a row; Wofford is 2nd, at 14.

**************************

Tuesday?s List of 13: Nobody asked me, but??

13) NBA should have an event in the summer, just after the Summer League in Las Vegas; a 32-player 1-on-1 tournament, with money going towards charities that each player chooses to represent. Do you know how popular this would be?

They had a 1-on-1 tournament back in the 70?s, shown at halftime of games on CBS, until Julius Erving?s agent killed it but not letting his client play.

TV ratings would be huge for this, and a ton of money could be raised for charity.

12) The tremendous basketball movie Blue Chips is 25 years old this week; Nick Nolte plays a college basketball coach who breaks NCAA rules to bring in great players who will restore his team to excellence. Two of the players he recruited were played by Shaquille O?Neal, Penny Hardaway.

The climactic game scenes were between Nolte?s Western University Dolphins and Indiana, coached by Bob Knight; they were filmed at Frankfort HS in Indiana.

Know what Frankfort HS?s mascot is? The Hot Dogs!!!! Seriously, the Frankfort Hot Dogs.

11) Indiana?s point guard in Blue Chips? Current Arizona State coach Bobby Hurley.

10) Who would you consider to be the best shooter ever? Not player, just shooter.

Steph Curry? Reggie Miller? Rick Barry? Larry Bird? Interesting debate.

9) When you see the sons of three former NBA players on the same college team, you?ve got a pretty good idea that this team?s coach is very good at his job.

Cal-Irvine has the sons of Doc Rivers, Caron Butler and Christian Welp, which speaks volumes that the Anteaters? coach, Russell Turner, is an excellent coach.

8) Giannis Antetokounmpo was the 15th player taken in the 2013 NBA Draft. Here are some players who were taken ahead of him that year:
1st? Anthony Bennett, Cleveland
4th? Cody Zeller, Charlotte
5th? Alex Len, Phoenix
14th? Shabazz Muhammad, Utah (traded to Minnesota)

7) There have been 87 college basketball coaches who faced AP #1 ranked teams at least 7 times. John Calipari (5-4) is the only one of those 87 with a winning record in those games.

6) Michigan State loses C Nick Ward for an indefinite time with a broken hand; he is the second Spartan starter out with a serious injury, so Michigan State is in trouble right now.

5) Bill Walton mentioned on the air Saturday night that ESPN announcers are told to talk about Duke more than other teams. The constant promos about Duke and Zion Williamson make it kind of obvious; when EVERY announcer rattles on about him during promos, you know the word is coming down from the bosses.

4) 2019 will be Bruce Bochy?s last year managing the Giants; he?s won three World Series with San Francisco, but he also got the Padres to a World Series in 1998. A definite Hall of Famer.

3) Quinnipiac?s Cameron Young scored 55 points Sunday in a 107-100 triple-OT win against Siena, the most points by a Division I player since North Dakota State?s Ben Woodside scored 60 points against Stephen F. Austin in triple-overtime on Dec. 12, 2008.

Jalen Pickett scored 46 for Siena in that game; the record for most combined points by two players in the same game is 115, which was set in 1970 when Pete Maravich scored 64 for LSU and Dan Issel scored 51 for Kentucky.

2) Marshall Thundering Herd is struggling, losing seven of their last ten games; not only that, but they?re 0-10 against the spread in those games. Not good.

1) Sunday morning, I found a cool t-shirt on the Interweb on a website I had never heard of, and I bought one. Ten minutes later, I?m scrolling thru Instagram on my phone, and an ad for that same website pops up on there.

Thats a little eerie, that someone, somewhere knows everywhere we go on our devices.

Tuesday's Tip Sheet
Kevin Rogers

Purdue (-4 ?, 140 ?) at Indiana ? 7:00 PM EST ? ESPN2

These Hoosier State rivals are going in different directions and when we mean different directions, Purdue is headed to the NCAA tournament and Indiana will likely miss the Big Dance for the third straight season. In the first meeting this season in West Lafayette, the Boilermakers (18-7 SU, 14-10-1 ATS) cruised past the Hoosiers (13-12 SU, 8-16 ATS) as nine-point favorites, 70-55 to capture their fourth consecutive win in the series.

Purdue rebounded from a 14-point loss at Maryland that snapped an eight-game winning streak as the Boilermakers took care of Penn State on Saturday, 76-64 as 12-point home favorites. The Boilermakers led by three points at halftime, but Matt Painter?s team opened things up in the second half, highlighted by 21 points from Carsen Edwards as Purdue improved to 11-3 in Big 10 play.

Indiana went through a perfect December at 6-0, which included victories over Louisville and Butler. The Hoosiers won their debut game of 2019 against Illinois, but Archie Miller?s squad has posted a 1-11 SU and 2-10 ATS record the last 11 trips to the court. The latest defeat came in blowout fashion at Minnesota on Saturday in an 84-63 setback as 3 ?-point underdogs. The Hoosiers fell to 1-6 in their last seven road contests with the only win coming in an unlikely upset of Michigan State in overtime on February 2 as 13 ?-point underdogs.

Big 10 play at Assembly Hall hasn?t been kind to IU, who has failed to cover in all six home conference games. The Hoosiers are listed as a home ?dog for only the second time this season as they were routed by Michigan on January 25 by 23 points. Since losing their first two Big 10 road games at Michigan and Michigan State, the Boilermakers are 3-1 SU/ATS in their last four away contests, while capturing three of the past four meetings in Bloomington.

Vanderbilt at Tennessee (-18 ?, 147 ?) ? 7:00 PM EST - ESPN

The last time these Volunteer State foes got together in Nashville on January 23, the Commodores (9-16 SU, 9-16 ATS) were on the verge of upsetting Tennessee (23-2 SU, 13-10-1 ATS) as nine-point underdogs. However, the Vols rallied late to force overtime and held off the ?Dores, 88-83 to stay perfect in SEC play and keep Vandy winless inside the conference. Grant Williams led Tennessee with 43 points, including shooting a perfect 23-of-23 from the free throw line as the Vols won for the third straight time at Vanderbilt.

The Volunteers jumped out to a 11-0 start inside the league before getting tripped up at Kentucky on Saturday, 86-69 as 3 ?-point underdogs. Tennessee suffered its first loss since falling to Kansas back in November as the Wildcats limited the Vols to 40% shooting from the floor, while scoring their second-fewest points in a game this season (66 vs. Georgia Tech).

Vanderbilt has lost all 12 conference affairs, while last picking up a victory against UNC-Asheville on December 31. The Commodores have put together a respectable 3-2 ATS mark away from Memorial Gymnasium in SEC play, including a recent cover at Florida as 9 ?-point underdogs last Wednesday in a 66-57 defeat. Amazingly this is only the second time that Vandy is listed as a double-digit ?dog this season as the Commodores cashed as 12 ?-point ?dogs in a loss at Kentucky in January.

Maryland at Iowa (-2, 149 ?) ? 8:00 PM EST ? BTN

The Hawkeyes (20-5 SU, 12-13 ATS) have turned into the cardiac kids of the Big 10 recently by coming off a pair of last-second wins over Northwestern and Rutgers. Although it?s not great competition that Iowa beat in this span, the Hawkeyes erased a 15-point deficit to the Wildcats with 4:30 left as Jordan Bohannon drilled the go-ahead three-pointer in an 80-79 stunner. Six days later, Joe Wieskamp banked in a three-pointer from an improbable angle in the corner in the final seconds to shock the Scarlet Knights, 71-69.

Iowa failed to cover in both victories to fall to 2-4 ATS in the last six games. However, the Hawkeyes have climbed out of an 0-3 hole to start conference play to possess a 9-5 record in the Big 10 to sit in fifth place. Iowa welcomes in Maryland (19-7 SU, 13-12-1 ATS) for the first time since 2017, while the Terrapins crushed the Hawkeyes last season in College Park, 91-73 as 7 ?-point favorites.

Maryland jumped out to an impressive 7-1 start in Big 10 play, but the Terrapins have slowed down considerably of late by posting a 3-4 record the last seven games. After an impressive home underdog win over Purdue on February 12, Maryland fell at Michigan on Saturday afternoon, 65-52 as 7 ?-point ?dogs. The Terps put together their worst offensive effort of the season as they were limited to 18 first half points and 36% shooting from the floor. Maryland owns a 4-3 ATS record on the road in Big 10 action, while covering in its last four opportunities as an underdog of three points or less.

Kentucky (-11, 133 ?) at Missouri ? 9:00 PM EST - ESPN

The Wildcats (21-4 SU, 15-10 ATS) were the first team to figure out how to knock off Tennessee in SEC play in Saturday?s 86-69 triumph at Rupp Arena. Not only did Kentucky bounce back from the controversial buzzer-beating loss to LSU, but John Calipari?s squad improved to 10-2 in conference action and 8-0 ATS in the last eight SEC victories. P.J. Washington led Kentucky with 23 points, as the Wildcats shot a terrific 24-of-40 (60%) on two-point attempts, while nailing 23 free throws in the win.

Kentucky travels to Missouri to face a Tigers? (12-12 SU, 10-13-1 ATS) team in rebuilding mode after a 20-win season and a berth to the NCAA tournament in 2018. Mizzou has compiled a 3-9 conference record with victories over Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas, all teams owning losing records in SEC play. The Tigers couldn?t capitalize off a home win over the Razorbacks by losing at Ole Miss on Saturday, 75-65 as 9 ?-point underdogs.

Missouri is listed as a double-digit ?dog for the third time this season, as the Tigers cashed as 18 ?-point ?dogs in a loss at Tennessee on February 5, while getting blown out at Auburn as 14 ?-point underdogs last month. Kentucky has covered in four of the past six opportunity when laying at least 10 points, while the Wildcats are listed as a double-digit road favorite for the first time this season.

Last season, the Wildcats and Tigers split a pair of matchups with the home team winning each time. Missouri has covered in each of the past three meetings in Columbia, including in 2015 and 2017 as a double-digit underdog.

Top 25 Betting Recap
Joe Williams

Each week until March Madness we'll take a look at how the Top 25 fared from college basketball, but straight up and against the number, while also taking a look at their upcoming schedule.

Nevada (24-1 SU, 16-7-1 ATS) was having difficulty against the spread a few weeks ago, but they have certainly righted the ship lately. The Wolf Pack have posted 10 games in a row since an inexplicable loss at New Mexico (11-14 SU, 9-15 ATS) on Jan. 5. The Pack avenged that loss in a big way, roughing up the Lobos 91-62 as 20 1/2-point favorites on Feb. 9, one of six consecutive covers for Nevada. The Wolf Pack have six regular-season games remaining, and they could head into the Mountain West Tournament in the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas as a 30-win team.

Tennessee (23-2 SU, 13-10-1 ATS) took a pounding over the weekend at Kentucky (21-4 SU, 15-10 ATS), as the Wildcats made a statement against the Vols. It was Tennessee's first loss in 19 games dating back to Nov. 23, a neutral-site loss against Kansas (20-6 SU, 12-14 ATS). The Vols will get a chance at revenge on March 2 in Knoxville, and we'll find out a great deal more about each of these teams before they head into the SEC Tournament and NCAA Tournament. Both teams are still very well alive for No. 1 seeds in the Big Dance. The Wildcats have covered nine of the past 10 games, and the 'under' has connected in four of the past five, and six of the past eight for UK.

Duke (23-2 SU, 15-10 ATS) have won nine in a row since they're four-point overtime loss against Syracuse (17-8 SU, 14-11 ATS) back on Jan. 14. It served as a wake-up call for Coach K's bunch, although they're still just 5-6 ATS over the past 11 outings. Total bettors have been visiting the window and taking the 'under' in Duke games lately. The total has gone under in six of the past eight for Duke. By the way, they have a revenge game on tap in Syracuse on Feb. 23 after the first installment of the 'Battle of the Blues' against North Carolina (20-5 SU, 15-8-2 ATS) on Wednesday at Cameron. The Tar Heels head into that one with the 'under' going 4-2 over the past six.

Houston (25-1 SU, 17-8-1 ATS) routed Tulane (4-20 SU, 10-14 ATS) in Louisiana on Sunday by 35 points, covering an 18-point number. The Cougars are 2-0 ATS in the past two as a double-digit favorite, and 4-1 ATS in the past five such situations. The 'under' has cashed in three in a row for Houston, as they're defense has allowed just 57.0 points per game (PPG) during the span. Houston is also a solid 7-2 ATS across the past nine games overall. They passed their biggest test Feb. 10 against Cincinnati (21-4 SU, 12-13 ATS), and they'll get another crack at the Bearcats on March 10 in the Queen City. Really, that's probably the only threat for a second regular-season loss down the stretch.

In the Big Ten, Maryland (19-7 SU, 13-12-1 ATS) and Wisconsin (17-8 SU, 14-11 ATS) are each likely to drop out of the Top 25 after losses at the bottom of the rankings. The Badgers lost both of their contests against the Michigan schools this past week, and they could very well be in jeopardy of missing the NCAA Tournament with a few more setbacks. Bettors like the Badgers for totals, as the 'under' has connected in eight of the past nine. The 'under' is also a popular play for UMD, going 7-2 over the past nine for the Terps. Oddly enough the 'over' cashed in their most recent meeting on Feb. 1 in Madison, albeit by a half-point at most shops.

It will be interesting this week to see if Wofford (23-4 SU, 13-11 ATS) can make it into the Top 25 rankings this week. We already had a SoCon team in the rankings earlier this season when Furman (22-5 SU, 16-8 ATS) made the rankings for a couple of weeks earlier in the fall. The Southern Conference has four teams with at least 21 wins, as the league is very top heavy. But Wofford is 15-0 in the conference, and they just blasted UNC Greensboro (22-5 SU, 11-13-1 ATS) by 30 last time out. They'll get another big test at Furman next Saturday.

Hot & Not Report

Week of February 18th

Who's Hot

'Overs' in ESPN's Saturday Showcase Prime Time Games (AKA site of ?College Gameday?) 4-1 O/U this year

The College Gameday following in basketball may not nearly have the scope that it does in college football, but it's still there to promote the biggest game each Saturday, and so far this year it's been quite Duke heavy. Two of the five games to date have involved the Blue Devils ? both contests with Virginia ? and this week they are scheduled to visit Syracuse for when the Blue Devils look for revenge against the Orange.

Prior to that though, there is a ?Gameday Special? set for this Wednesday's UNC/Duke game. That's quite a bit of Duke overload in my opinion, but when Gameday shows up to a campus, bettors better be ready to expect plenty of points.

The 'over' in these showcase contests has gone 4-1 so far this year, and you know that with Duke slated for two appearances this week alone, the 'over' will be receiving plenty of support already. Duke's only had 7 of their 23 games cash 'over' tickets this year, and to have two of them be in the national spotlight like this is a bit of an oddity. Furthermore, conference matchups under this spotlight are a perfect 4-0 O/U so far, as the lone 'under' came in the Big 12/SEC challenge when Kansas and Kentucky squared off.

Now regarding this week's upcoming games, the UNC/Duke total will likely be as high as high gets for that matchup, and it might be time to go against this run if the number looks inflated ? after all it's technically not a Saturday Gameday contest. And then depending on how that game finishes, as it's a huge 1st place showdown in the ACC, the Blue Devils trip to Syracuse could be one where going against this trend could prove beneficial.

For one, Duke's could be in hangover mode following the UNC game, and it's not like Syracuse's zone is prone to giving up a lot of points as it is. With the Blue Devils also having G Tre Jones available for the whole game against the Orange this time (pending another injury), I don't think Syracuse will have nearly as much offensive success against the Blue Devils as they did in the 1st meeting.

So, it may be time to flip the script of this TV trend this week, as Duke's been a great 'under' bet on the whole all year, and depending on how the totals and situational aspects of Duke's games this week play out, the value may be going against this trend regardless.

Who's Not

Fading UCLA straight up when alumni Bill Walton is on the call (1-6 SU)

By any measuring stick a proud program like UCLA uses, the 2018-19 season has not been a good one for the Bruins by any means. At 13-13 SU overall, and 6-7 SU in Pac-12 play, the Bruins may not even find themselves invited to a post-season tournament when all is said and done, but for all the struggles they've had, having the eccentric Bill Walton on the mic for a Bruins game seems to bring out the best in the entire UCLA program.

Walton is a commentator that basketball fans tend to be strongly for or against, and that's all well and good. But for whatever reason, if he's doing the call for a Bruins game, you don't necessarily want to fade UCLA at least in terms of the straight up result this year.

UCLA is 6-1 SU with Walton on the call, and that run includes their memorable comeback against Oregon back in early January. That's nearly half their wins when you think about it that Walton has seen in person for the Bruins this year, and with three UCLA games left for Walton to call according to this schedule (which can change as he didn't call the UCLA/Stanford game on the weekend), he's got three more Bruins games left.

The first of those is this upcoming Saturday when UCLA hosts the Ducks in a rematch of that epic comeback game, followed by the Battle of LA next week, and the Bruins trip to Colorado early on in March. The Bruins will likely be laying a few points in those first two games at home, and catching a few in Colorado late, and with the Bruins having a 3-1 ATS record in Pac-12 play when Walton is there, even laying the chalk with this highly talented team is probably the way to go.

Duke-Carolina renew rivalry this week
February 19, 2019
By The Associated Press

North Carolina coach Roy Williams set his sights on landing Zion Williamson out of high school, only to see him end up down the road at the Tar Heels' biggest rival.

Williams and the rest of the eight-ranked Tar Heels will get an up-close look at top-ranked Duke's rim-wrecking freshman Wednesday in what's sure to be a foundation-shaking atmosphere at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

''Zion's a different bird, there's no question about that,'' Williams said on Monday. ''We tried to recruit him very hard. He's got a combination of skill set that I've never seen before and there is a lot of attention, but he deserves it. He's backed it up.''

Williamson arrived at Duke with plenty of hype, a 6-foot-8, 285-pound force who created a massive following with his head-above-the-rim dunks.

He's exceeded even those lofty expectations by doing the same things he did to high schoolers against college players. Williamson is right behind fellow freshman R.J. Barrett with 22.4 points per game, grabs 9.2 rebounds and often has more highlights in one game than most players have all season.

He's also helped lead the Blue Devils (23-2, 13-1 ACC) to No. 1 in the AP Top 25 for the third time this season.

Since losing to Syracuse on Jan. 14, Duke has reeled off nine straight wins, including a 23-point comeback victory over No. 18 Louisville. The Blue Devils moved up a spot to No. 1 this week after Tennessee lost to No. 4 Kentucky.

''It's hard to kind of miss the hype they get, just because it's all over the place, but we try not to pay attention to it,'' North Carolina senior guard Cameron Johnson said. ''We go about our own business and we're really confident in the group that we have. But it'll definitely be a big opportunity for us.''

The Tar Heels (20-5, 10-2) had a seven-game winning streak ended by No. 3 Virginia last Monday, but bounced back with a rout over Wake Forest.

North Carolina won two of three against their biggest rival a year ago, including the semifinals of the ACC Tournament in New York.

This rivalry is already one of the best in sports and having both teams ranked in the top 10, not to mention playing well, make it must-watch TV.

Duke gets a rematch on Saturday against Syracuse and North Carolina has a tough game against No. 16 Florida State.

RIVALARY IN MICHIGAN

Duke-Carolina isn't the only rivalry game going on this week.

On Sunday, No. 7 Michigan hosts No. 10 Michigan State with the Big Ten lead likely on the line.

Both enter the week tied atop the conference at 12-3, with No. 15 Purdue a half-game back at 11-3.

The Spartans (21-5) play Rutgers on Wednesday and the Wolverines (23-3) have to get past Minnesota on Thursday, so there's a chance they won't still be tied come Sunday.

Regardless of the records, expect the Crisler Center to be rockin'.

BIG SATURDAY

Saturday features four games between ranked opponents.

No. 12 Kansas faces a big test in its bid for a 15th straight Big 12 title, playing at No. 14 Texas Tech. The Jayhawks enter the week tied with the Red Raiders for second in the conference, a half-game behind Kansas State. Kansas won the first meeting 79-63 at Allen Fieldhouse.

The big game in the SEC pits former-No. 1 Tennessee and No. 13 LSU. The Vols dropped to No. 5 in this week's poll after losing to Kentucky, which lost to LSU earlier in the week.

In addition to North Carolina-Florida State, the ACC has a ranked vs. ranked game between No. 3 Virginia and No. 18 Louisville.

The Cavaliers bounced back from a loss to Duke with wins over North Carolina and Notre Dame last week to remain within a game of the Blue Devils in the ACC. Louisville suffered a difficult loss to Duke by blowing the 23-point lead and nearly had another collapse before holding off Clemson last week.

The only other game between ranked teams this week is Tuesday, when No. 24 Maryland plays at No. 21 Iowa.

NCAA Basketball Game Preview - Vanderbilt Commodores at Tennessee Volunteers

by Kyle Markus

The Tennessee Volunteers? reign atop the national polls came to an end last time out when they fell to Kentucky. Tennessee dropped to No. 5 in the rankings and hopes to rebound down the stretch in order to secure a No. 1 seed in March Madness. Tennessee is at home next time out and is going to be a humongous favorite when it takes on the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Vandy has had some competitive teams in the past but this year is not going as planned as the group is winless in SEC play. The Volunteers are going to be upset with last week?s loss and will likely beat up on the Commodores in this one in NCAA men?s basketball odds.

This NCAA basketball game between the Vanderbilt Commodores and Tennessee Volunteers will be held at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tennessee at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, February 19th, 2019. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.

We'll have NCAA basketball odds at BookMaker.eu available for every game of the 2019 NCAA basketball season.

Odds Analysis

Vanderbilt has an overall record of 9-16 on the season and has gone winless in all 12 of its conference games. The Commodores have lost 13 games in a row overall. They played decently in the non-conference slate but as the level of competition has increased Vanderbilt has been outclassed.

Tennessee is 23-2 overall on the year and now 11-1 in the SEC following the loss to Kentucky. The Volunteers are tied with LSU atop the conference and have their eyes set on capturing the SEC title. An easy win here will keep them on track. Tennessee is undefeated at home on the season.

Scheduling Situation

This looks like it could be a classic trap game for Tennessee. The Volunteers are coming off a game in which Kentucky controlled from start to finish, which knocked Tennessee from its post as the top team in the nation. The game immediately after this one is a road matchup against LSU which could help determine who wins the conference.

Vanderbilt is not nearly as talented as Tennessee, and the Volunteers get this game at home, so there is no concern about actually losing. However, keep an eye on the spread. It is expected to be large, and if Tennessee is not super focused on this game it could allow Vandy to cover.

Injury Report

Vanderbilt has really struggled since the early-season knee injury to star freshman Darius Garland. He suffered a torn meniscus that ended his season after only five games. Garland averaged 16.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in that limited time and then withdrew from school to focus on preparation for the NBA.

Saben Lee is now the team?s go-to-guy, as the sophomore guard is averaging 13.1 points per game. Lee needs to have an efficient shooting night and also get a lot of help for the Commodores to stay close in this one.

Free NCAA Basketball ATS Picks

Tennessee is one of the best teams in the SEC while Vanderbilt is the worst. The Volunteers should have no trouble winning this game at home, but keep an eye on the team?s effort. If it is lackadaisical, the Commodores may be able to stick around longer than most expect.

While Tennessee is the clear choice to win, Vanderbilt is a worthy consideration to cover the spread. Consider the ?over? in this one as both teams may try to push the ball in NCAA men?s basketball gambling.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Tennessee Volunteers 84, Vanderbilt Commodores 72

College Basketball Preview - Kentucky at Missouri

The Kentucky Wildcats will look to avoid a letdown, as they visit the Missouri Tigers on Tuesday night in a game that can be seen on ESPN. Kentucky has moved up to No. 4 in the country after beating Tennessee on Saturday and the Wildcats are now in position to get a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats will be road favorites in this contest on Tuesday against a Missouri team that is 12-12 on the season. Let?s look at Kentucky at Missouri and college basketball picks.

Kentucky Wildcats at Missouri Tigers
Date and Time: Tuesday, February 19, 2019, 9 p.m. ET
Location: Mizzou Arena, Columbia, MO
College Basketball Odds at BetDSI: Kentucky -11.5, O/U 135
Kentucky vs. Missouri TV Coverage: ESPN

Kentucky has been a very good road team this season, as they are 6-1 ATS, with three games going over and four going under. They are averaging 78.7 points per game and giving up 65.6 per contest. The question in this game is how much do oddsmakers overreact to Kentucky?s win over Tennessee? The Wildcats have been a very good road team, but they usually are laying small numbers.

Missouri had a good season a year ago under Cuonzo Martin as they won 20 games and tied for 4th in the SEC. That is not the case this year, as the Tigers are just 3-9 in the SEC. Missouri simply doesn?t score enough points, as they average just 68 per game. They are giving up 68.9 per contest. Missouri is 6-6-1 ATS at home, with six games going over, six going under the total, with one push.

Player to Watch

The Wildcats have a very good player inside in PJ Washington. He could very well get into the conversation for the SEC Player of the Year Award. He dominated No. 1 Tennessee on Saturday and he has scored 20 points or more in seven of the last eight games. He is averaging 14.8 points and 8 rebounds per game.

Matchup to Watch

If Missouri is to stay in this game they have to hit from three-point range. They are making 8.5 threes per game, so they have the ability to hit from long range. Mark Smith is hitting 47% of his three-point shots, so he is definitely a threat. Kentucky should be focused on making sure that Smith doesn?t beat them. Missouri also has Jordan Geista and Jeremiah Tilmon who can hit from deep, so the Wildcats will have to make sure they play good perimeter defense on Tuesday. Smith has had some injury issues this season and he played just three minutes in Saturday?s loss to Ole Miss. If Smith is not at full strength then Missouri is going to have a hard time staying in this game.

Key Stats

The home team is 6-0 ATS in the last 6 meetings in this series. The Wildcats are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Wildcats are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 vs. the SEC. The Wildcats are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a point spread cover. The Tigers are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 vs. the SEC. The Tigers are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.

Looking at the total, the Under is 4-1 in the Wildcats last 5 overall. The Over is 5-2 in the Tigers last 7 overall.

Kentucky vs. Missouri Free Picks

The situation definitely favors Missouri, but the problem I have with backing the Tigers is that they are the inferior team. Kentucky is simply better all the way around than Missouri. The point spread is high, so I am a little leery in taking Kentucky, but that is still the way I would lean. The total is worth considering in this game, simply because Missouri is so poor on offense and because Kentucky may not be as focused as they normally are. I will play this game to go under the total at BetDSI.

Kentucky vs. Missouri ATS Pick: Under 135
Kentucky vs. Missouri Score Prediction: Kentucky 72, Missouri 60
