Tuesday's Tip Sheet
March 26, 2018

Game of the Night: Cavaliers at Heat ? 8:05 PM EST

There?s plenty of history between good friends and former running mates LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. The two of them were drafted in 2003, captured a pair of titles in Miami, and were teammates in Cleveland for the first half of the season. Wade returned to the Heat in a February deadline deal following a year away from Miami, while James and the Cavaliers are trying to move forward with its revamped roster.

Cleveland (44-29 SU, 26-46-1 ATS) closed the first half with four straight wins, but lost seven of its next 12 games. The Cavaliers are back on track by winning five consecutive contests, including each of the past four with Kevin Love back in the lineup. Love missed 20 games with a hand injury, but the forward is back to performing at an All-Star level by producing a pair of double-doubles and averaging 20.2 points per game in the last four contests.

Miami (39-35 SU, 37-31-6 ATS) returns home following a pair of road defeats at Oklahoma City and Indiana. The Heat played in their third overtime game in a 12-day span in Sunday?s 113-107 setback to the Pacers, as Indiana picked up the front-door cover as 3 ?-point favorites. Returning home will benefit the Heat, who have won nine of their last 10 games at American Airlines Arena, while compiling an 8-1-1 ATS mark.

The Cavaliers have captured the first two meetings with the Heat this season, both at Quicken Loans Arena. Cleveland held off Miami in the first matchup in late November, 108-97 as the Cavs built a 75-49 halftime lead. The Heat fell by two in the next meeting in January, 91-89, but cashed as 2 ?-point underdogs. Miami has won 13 consecutive home matchups with Cleveland dating back to December 2010, while the Heat own a 5-1 ATS mark in the last six meetings in south Florida.

Disappearing Act

The lead in the Southeast division is quickly slipping through Washington?s hands as the Wizards (40-33 SU, 33-39-1 ATS) own a one-game lead over the Heat. Washington looks to end a three-game skid, capped off by a surprising 101-97 home setback to New York on Saturday as 10 ?-point favorites. The first loss in this stretch came at San Antonio last Wednesday, 98-90 as 5 ?-point underdogs, the fourth consecutive loss to the Spurs since December 2015.

San Antonio (43-31 SU, 39-33-2 ATS) swept its six-game homestand prior to Sunday?s 106-103 defeat at Milwaukee as two-point favorites. That loss marked the eighth setback in the last nine road games for the Spurs, while San Antonio has allowed at least 104 points in each of its past four contests away from AT&T Center. In last Wednesday?s victory over the Wizards, LaMarcus Aldridge led San Antonio with 27 points, while the Spurs limited Washington to 42% shooting from the floor.

Golden Wait

The Warriors (54-19 SU, 31-41-1 ATS) are the epitome of the walking wound as Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green are all sidelined. Golden State fell on Sunday night to Utah as a lengthy 8 ?-point home underdogs, 110-91 without the aforementioned four stars in the lineups. The Warriors look to avoid consecutive losses for the third time this season as they face the Pacers for the first time in 2017-18.

Indiana (43-31 SU, 42-32 ATS) is fresh off a pair of close home wins over the Clippers and Heat to clinch a playoff berth for the third straight season. The Pacers on a late-season four-game west coast swing which continues against the Kings, Clippers, and Nuggets, while returning home to face the Warriors on April 5. Indiana has dropped four consecutive matchups with Golden State, including a 37-point setback in Indianapolis and a 36-point drubbing in Oakland last season.

Quick Return

Following a 2-2 road swing capped off by a comeback victory at Toronto on Sunday, the Clippers (39-34 SU, 39-33-1 ATS) face the Bucks for the second time in less than a week. Los Angeles outlasted Milwaukee last Wednesday, 127-120 as 5 ?-point underdogs, led by DeAndre Jordan?s 25-point and 22-rebound effort. The Clippers hit the road immediately following the game for two more on the highway at Phoenix on Wednesday and Portland on Friday.

The Bucks (39-34 SU, 29-39-5 ATS) venture to the west coast for four contests, looking to capitalize off Sunday?s home victory over the Spurs. Milwaukee is riding an eight-game OVER streak, while topping the 117-point mark in seven of those contests. Since late January, the Bucks own a 2-6 SU/ATS record as a road underdog, but managed to pull out a 97-96 triumph at Staples Center over the Clippers last March as 7 ?-point ?dogs.

Playoff Preview?

Entering Tuesday?s action, the Blazers (45-28 SU, 41-27-5 ATS) own a two-game edge over the Thunder for the third playoff position in the Western Conference. New Orleans and San Antonio are tied for fifth as the Blazers and Pelicans could meet in a potential 3/6 matchup in the opening round of the playoffs. Portland dropped two straight following a 13-game winning streak, but the Blazers bounced back from their recent cold spell to hold off Oklahoma City on Sunday, 108-105, while improving to 14-2 ATS in the last 16 contests.

A tired Pelicans (43-31 SU, 40-33-1 ATS) squad saw its four-game winning streak go up in smoke in Saturday?s 114-91 drubbing at Houston. New Orleans had finished off three wins in three nights from Tuesday through Thursday last week prior to Saturday?s 23-point defeat. The Pelicans have won eight of their last nine in the role of a home favorite, while topping the Blazers in two of the first three matchups this season.

Rockets pound Bulls 118-86, win 10th straight game
March 27, 2018

HOUSTON (AP) Eric Gordon scored 31 points and tied a career high with eight 3-pointers on a night James Harden sat out to rest, and the Houston Rockets got their 10th straight win with a 118-86 rout of the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday night.

Trevor Ariza added 21 points and Chris Paul had 13 points and 10 assists in his return after missing the last three games with a sore hamstring.

The NBA-leading Rockets became the first team since San Antonio in the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season to have three winning streaks of at least 10 games in a season. They won 14 in a row from Nov. 16-Dec. 18 and 17 straight from Jan. 28-March 7.

Lauri Markkanen returned after missing Saturday's game with lower back spasms and had 22 points for the Bulls, who dropped their sixth straight.

WIZARDS 116, SPURS 106

WASHINGTON (AP) - Markieff Morris shot 7 of 7 from the floor for 15 points, Otto Porter Jr. added 14 and Washington beat San Antonio to snap a three-game losing streak.

San Antonio lost for just the second time in eight games but may have been dealt a more serious blow with a left knee injury to star LaMarcus Aldridge, who was the game's leading scorer with 13 points before he limped off late in the second quarter. Aldridge is the biggest reason the Spurs have stayed afloat without Kawhi Leonard most of this season.

Washington lit up the NBA's top scoring defense to improve to 15-11 in 26 consecutive games without five-time All-Star guard John Wall, who is close to returning from left knee surgery. The Wizards had dropped to sixth in the East by losing five of seven and could clinch a playoff spot as early as Thursday.

HEAT 98, CAVALIERS 79

MIAMI (AP) - Kelly Olynyk scored 19 points, Dwyane Wade blocked a pair of shots by LeBron James as part of a stifling defensive effort by Miami, and the Heat had little trouble on the way to beating Cleveland.

Josh Richardson and James Johnson each scored 15 points for Miami, which led 54-34 at halftime and has won 10 of its last 11 home games. Wade finished with 12 against the team he spent part of this season with before getting traded back to Miami.

Goran Dragic added 10 for the Heat, who could clinch an Eastern Conference playoff spot by week's end.

James finished with 18 points for the Cavaliers, whose previous season low for points was 88. The Cavs are 1-13 this season when held under 100; they're 43-17 when scoring more than 100.

TRAIL BLAZERS 107, PELICANS 103

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Damian Lillard scored 20 of his 41 points in the fourth quarter, and Portland beat New Orleans.

Lillard hit his first six shots of the fourth quarter, including two 3-pointers, to push Portland into its first lead since early in the first quarter. He made two free throws with 1.3 seconds left to seal the victory.

Anthony Davis had 36 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks for the Pelicans, with 22 points coming after he rolled his right ankle and briefly came out of the game with 5:15 left in the third quarter. Jrue Holiday had 21 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds for New Orleans.

RAPTORS 114, NUGGETS 110

TORONTO (AP) - DeMar DeRozan, Jonas Valanciunas, and Fred VanVleet each scored 15 points and Toronto beat Denver.

Jakob Poeltl scored all of his 12 points in the fourth quarter, including eight straight for Toronto at one stretch.

Serge Ibaka had 13 points, Pascal Siakam 12 and Kyle Lowry 11 as the Raptors improved to 31-7 at home.

Toronto, which lost to the Clippers on Sunday, avoided what would have been its fifth two-game losing streak. The Eastern Conference-leading Raptors have yet to lose three consecutive games this season.

Nikola Jokic had 29 points and 16 rebounds, and Paul Millsap scored 20 points for the Nuggets, who lost their second straight and fourth in six games.

Wednesday's Tip Sheet
March 28, 2018

Game of the Night: Celtics at Jazz (-7, 194) ? 9:30 PM EST

Boston (51-23 SU, 45-27-2 ATS) looks to finish off its four-game Western Conference road swing undefeated following victories at Portland, Sacramento, and Phoenix. The Celtics rallied to beat the Blazers and Kings after trailing at halftime, while holding off the Suns on Sunday night, 102-94. Boston failed to cash as 10-point favorites, while rookie forward Jayson Tatum paced the Celtics with 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting.

The Jazz (42-32 SU, 39-35 ATS) have posted an incredible run since late January by winning 23 of their last 27 games. Three losses have come to upper-tier Western Conference competition (Portland, Houston, and San Antonio), while slipping up last week against Atlanta as 14-point home favorites. Utah crushed a short-handed Golden State squad on Sunday, 110-91 as 8 ?-point road favorites, led by Donovan Mitchell?s 21 points as all five Jazz starters put up double-figures.

In their first matchup this season at TD Garden, the Jazz ripped the Celtics, 107-95 as 4 ?-point underdogs in mid-December. Utah knocked down 13 three-pointers, while guard Ricky Rubio scored 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting to give the Jazz their first victory at Boston since March 2008.

These teams are going in different directions from a totals standpoint, as the Celtics have cashed the UNDER in five of the past six games, while the Jazz are currently on a 4-1 OVER run. Since late December, Brad Stevens? club owns a 9-2 ATS record as an underdog, while Utah is 4-7 ATS in the last 11 home contests.

Cleveland Clunker

For some reason, the Cavaliers (44-30 SU, 26-47-1 ATS) can?t win in Miami. Cleveland?s losing streak at American Airlines Arena reached 14 straight in Tuesday?s 98-79 setback to Miami, while the Cavaliers are 0-7 SU and 1-6 ATS in south Florida since LeBron James returned to Cleveland in 2014. Kevin Love suffered a concussion after getting elbowed in the first quarter on Tuesday, as the Cavs had their four-game winning streak snapped.

Cleveland travels to Charlotte with no rest to take on a streaking Hornets? (34-41 SU, 32-39-4 ATS) squad. Even though the effort seems too little, too late for Charlotte, Steve Clifford?s team has won four straight games, coming off Monday?s overtime triumph over New York. Granted, the Hornets have beaten four lottery teams in this stretch, but Charlotte has compiled a 6-2 record in its last eight home contests.

The Cavaliers have owned the Hornets through the years by capturing eight consecutive meetings, including a pair of wins earlier this season in November. The number to keep an eye on is the 10-1 mark to the UNDER the Cavaliers possess when playing with no rest, as tonight?s total opened at 227 ?.

Minnesota Mess

Things aren?t going right at the worst possible time for the Timberwolves (42-33 SU, 33-40-2 ATS), who have dropped four of their last six games. Minnesota has slipped to the eighth seed in the Western Conference, which would pit them against Houston in the opening round of the playoffs (Wolves are 0-4 vs. the Rockets this season).

The Wolves suffered probably their most humiliating loss of the season on Monday by dropping a 101-93 decision to the Grizzlies as 13 ?-point favorites. Memphis entered that contest on a dreadful 1-23 run in its previous 24 games, while limiting Minnesota to below 100 points at home for the first time since December 10.

The Hawks (21-53 SU, 35-37-2 ATS) finish up their six-game road swing following three straight double-digit defeats at Sacramento, Golden State, and Houston. Leading scorer Dennis Schroder sat out two of those losses with an ankle injury and is unlikely to play tonight. Atlanta upset Minnesota at Philips Arena in late January, 105-100 as six-point home underdogs, while seeking its second road win in the last 12 tries.

Continue to Blaze

Portland (46-28 SU, 42-27-5 ATS) remained red-hot by rallying past New Orleans on Tuesday, 107-103 to cash as 1 ?-point road favorites. Damian Lillard led the Blazers with 41 points, while Portland limited New Orleans to 4-of-24 shooting from three-point range. The Blazers improved to 15-2 SU/ATS the last 17 games, to go along with a 7-0 SU and 6-1 ATS mark in the past seven games away from the Moda Center.

Lillard is unavailable tonight at Memphis as he returns home for the birth of his child. The Grizzlies (20-54 SU, 30-42-2 ATS) seek consecutive wins for the first time since mid-January following Monday?s upset of Minnesota. The road team has won each of the first two meetings this season, as the Blazers knocked off the Grizzlies, 100-92 at FedEx Forum in late November.

Playoffs are Wide Open
March 26, 2018

For basically the entire season, the NBA has tried to pretend that there were real threats to the Golden State Warriors while simultaneously admitting that the champions were going to repeat. But now things have dramatically changed with the Curry injury. Stephen Curry is about to miss the next 3-4 weeks, and is out of the first round.

The issue is that this speaks to a longer, unavoidable problem for the Warriors.

Kevin Durant is probably going to be back next week just in time for a playoff tune-up, Draymond should be on the floor this week and Klay Thompson?s broken thumb should be ok by next week as well. Curry is slated for a comeback in Round 2 of the playoffs.

There?s no sense in rushing Steph Curry back from an sprained MCL. That?s not the type of injury that is career threatening, but it can absolutely put the other, more important parts of the body at risk. I?m not just talking about the ACL ? the groin, everything in the lower body, the ankles and hips would all be in jeopardy if Curry came back too soon simply by virtue of how he moves on the court.

Golden State?s problem isn?t Curry?s MCL, which will be fine. It?s the Houston Rockets. They?re the only real threat in the playoffs, but the absence of Curry is obviously huge. The Warriors with Curry was championship worthy, but once they added Kevin Durant it was game over. Durant is clearly good enough to win a series with this supporting cast (and probably talented enough to win it without them) but returning to the Western Conference Finals at full strength is priority one.

The remaining slate for the Warriors is a smattering of teams of different strengths. In other words, it?s a great opportunity for the Warriors to groom some bench players in order to gain some confidence heading in to a first round game against God-knows-who. They could honestly play anyone from Portland to Denver. Grading the probably Western Conference playoff seeds is a whole other matter entirely.

But looking at Golden State from an optimistic point belies the reality of what?s happening to them. They are run down and the breadth of their success over the years is starting to catch up to them. We?ve seen this happen to countless teams from the Miami Heat to the New England Patriots to the Chicago Blackhawks. No matter how legendary a team is, you can?t avoid the pitfall of accumulated fatigue. Extended seasons just have a way of adding up.

This is especially alarming given that everyone in the starting lineup for Golden State is not only hurt, but in their physical prime. Aside from Draymond ironically getting busted in the pelvis by Joe Karma, it?s becoming obvious that the Warriors are simply wearing out physically. That doesn?t mean that they won?t recover from their assortment of ailments, but it does mean that they?re prone to getting re-injured.

We?ve also seen the Warriors fight through mental fatigue, with Steve Kerr famously ?not coaching? a game because his voice wasn?t being heard. It was a strategy that worked and I?m not one to criticize Kerr because I?m a huge supporter of his coaching style, but it was the necessary prescription for the first real symptom of stress accumulation.

Mental fatigue, injuries, some in-fighting?all of this stuff is basically the product of teams being too successful for too long. You?re constantly playing an extra 15 to 30 games in the post season at the highest level possible, spending a lot more time together under intense circumstances while also being scrutinized by the public in general, which includes the media. Championship windows start closing the second that they?re open. How long that takes depends on infrastructure and luck.

You can?t just write off Golden State due to this whole fatigue thing, but it?s emerging in symptomatic ways that suddenly make the playoffs a lot more interesting. The Warriors can definitely win with duct tape, but suddenly the gap between them and the rest of the contenders is shrinking. So who?s worth the gamble?

Houston Rockets +175 to win the NBA Championship

I spend an unusual amount of time bagging the Rockets for continually ignoring the fact that they are always ?that team? in the playoffs ? the one that?s incredible and then flames out in the playoffs because they can?t paly defence or Harden runs out of gas. All this being said, Houston is a terrific pick to win the title if Golden State can?t keep up. But they?re just as vulnerable to getting picked off by the Trail Blazers or some hot team in a series. I love the probability here from a cold hearted statistical point of view, but I don?t love the overall value.

Cleveland Cavaliers +600 to win the NBA Championship

Two weeks ago, I?d have said ?forget it?, but that was before LeBron James morphed in to the devourer of worlds again. James is playing at an MVP level and is once again that end-to-end superhero that players don?t want to step in front of. He murdered the Toronto Raptors in their last meeting in a stark reminder of what he?s capable of. The team around him is pretty lame, but we all know that. That?s how important LeBron James is. These odds haven?t really moved that much since the trade deadline, but their appeal has improved tremendously with LeBron somehow peaking like a super Saiyan.

Toronto Raptors +1200 to win the NBA Championship

Yes they?re good enough to win, but the memory of them getting capsized by LeBron single handedly is still fresh in the memory banks. The advantage they?ll have in the playoffs is homecourt through the Eastern Conference part. The Raptors are also very healthy, very deep and have discovered a new identity.

Speaking on that, what Toronto has done well through the season is learn how to play ?their? game. They have been routinely ousted in the playoffs by reducing their standard to the level of their competition. More often than not, Toronto walks in as a team on the rise, and they play as if they?re in a 50-50 fight. It?s why so many of us don?t believe that they can close out a series against a great team. But this year has been different. The feeling around the franchise is much more aggressive, as if expectations are high.

Toronto is no longer satisfied to be the ?happy to be here? team. Great value, you just have to get past the idea of them being able to beat the one guy they?ve never, ever been able to handle.

Oklahoma City Thunder +3300

The Thunder live and die on the ability to out work their opponents, which is probably a byproduct of Russell Westbrook. They don?t grade out as a specifically great offensive or defensive team. What they do grade out as is a fantastic hustle team ? tops in loose ball recovery and deflections. If you?re looking for a really long shot to turn a little in to a lot, then they?re probably not it. I?d honeslty rather bet on?

Portland Trail Blazers or San Antonio Spurs +4000

Both of these teams have really sharp value and are absolutely worth an investment depending on who you prefer. The Blazers are peaking right now, having just trounced the Thunder and paced with the Rockets in a thriller. And we?re they?re fantastic is in opponent field goal percentage, a kitchen sink stat that routinely identifies teams that no how to force bad shots. That?s a huge factor for a team that also has Damian Lillard playing at ?second half MVP? level. It?s never been inconceivable for the Blazers to compete at the top level, we just often forget about them because of the lack of star power. But they can bang with anyone and are closing out the season as if they?re convinced that they can take the whole conference.

San Antonio is basically the tricked out minivan of the whole NBA futures board. You know they?re going to get the job done, that they?re reliable and that there?s a guy at the helm in Pop who just knows what buttons to press. LaMarcus Aldridge has been nothing short of brilliant this entire season, and if the players are urging Kawhi to try and come back it?s because they all believe that he can. Manu and Parker would?ve kyboshed that team meeting if there was even an inkling that he wasn?t ready to compete.

One of the reasons to bet away from San Antonio is the fact that it?s impossible to predict if Kawhi is going to be mentally ready to unleash his incredible, octopus powers on the NBA. And even if he regains his confidence thanks to a few great games, there?s no telling if his body is really in playoff shape or if it will hold up.

Injuries get in your head as an athlete, and this applies to every level. That?s why the NBA playoffs have suddenly become interesting. Just ask Golden State.

James sets double-figure scoring record, Cavs beat Pelicans
March 31, 2018

CLEVELAND (AP) LeBron James scored in double digits in his 867th straight game, breaking the record he shared with Michael Jordan, and the Cleveland Cavaliers rallied to beat the New Orleans Hornets 107-102 on Friday night to avoid slipping in the standings.

James finished with 27 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds, adding another stellar performance to his MVP-worthy 15th NBA season. He finally put the Pelicans away by scoring eight straight in the waning moments of the fourth quarter.

Jordan Clarkson added 23 points and Tristan Thompson had 14 rebounds in 21 minutes for the Cavs, who have won seven of eight. A loss would have dropped the three-time defending Eastern Conference champions from third to fifth with only a handful of games left in the regular season.

Jrue Holiday scored 25 and Nikola Mirotic 20 for New Orleans. Pelicans star Anthony Davis scored just 16 - 12 below his average - on 6-of-19 shooting as he was harassed by Thompson and Larry Nance Jr.

ROCKETS 104, SUNS 103

HOUSTON (AP) - Gerald Green made a 3-pointer at the buzzer and Houston rallied from a 21-point, second-half deficit to beat Phoenix.

The win was Houston's 11th straight and extended Phoenix's skid to 14 games.

Houston rested Chris Paul, Eric Gordon and Nene after clinching the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference on Thursday with Golden State's loss to Milwaukee. The Rockets that did play looked uninspired early against the team with the NBA's worst record, and Houston trailed by 17 at halftime.

James Harden had 28 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. P.J. Tucker added 18 points and made a career-high five 3-pointers.

Josh Jackson had 27 points for the Suns, who haven't won since Feb. 28, and Troy Daniels added 23.

76ERS 101, HAWKS 91

ATLANTA (AP) - Ben Simmons had a triple-double in three quarters, Ersan Ilyasova scored 21 points and Philadelphia won its ninth straight game.

With 13 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists, Simmons has five triple-doubles in his last 10 games and 11 overall. The Rookie of the Year candidate did not play after leaving with 3:37 left in the third, giving Philadelphia the kind of performance it needed one game after All-Star center Joel Embiid suffered an orbital eye fracture and a concussion.

Philadelphia jumped out to an 11-point lead twice in the second quarter. The Hawks pulled within three in the first minute of the third, but the Sixers soon put away the game with a 39-15 run that made it 86-59 entering the fourth.

Damion Lee finished with a career-high 20 points and Taurean Prince and Isaiah Taylor each added 12 for Atlanta, the NBA's second-worst team.

NUGGETS 126, THUNDER 125, OT

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Paul Millsap scored a season-high 36 points to help Denver beat Oklahoma City.

Nikola Jokic had 23 points and 16 rebounds, and Will Barton added 18 points for the Nuggets, who had lost two straight and desperately needed the win for the Western conference playoff race. Denver entered the night two games out of the No. 8 spot.

Russell Westbrook had 33 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds, but he missed what would have been a game-winning 3-pointer at the end of regulation. Carmelo Anthony scored 23 points and Jerami Grant added 16 for the Thunder, who have lost four of five. Those losses have been by a combined nine points, with none by more than four.

TRAIL BLAZERS 105, CLIPPERS 96

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Jusuf Nurkic had 21 points and 12 rebounds, new father Damian Lillard added 17 points and 11 assists, and Portland held off Los Angeles.

Rookie Zach Collins came off the bench with a career-high 15 points for the Blazers, who were hurt in the third quarter when Ed Davis rolled his right ankle and left the game.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Clippers, who were just outside the playoff picture in the West with six games left. Lou Williams led Los Angeles with 23 points.

BUCKS 124, LAKERS 122, OT

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Eric Bledsoe scored 11 of his 39 points in overtime, and Milwaukee overcame a huge comeback by Los Angeles.

Khris Middleton added 28 points and Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 27 for the Bucks, who won their third straight game and second in two nights. They beat the Golden State Warriors on Thursday.

Bledsoe scored nine straight points to start the overtime period and give the Bucks a 121-112 lead with 2:35 remaining.

Kyle Kuzma had 27 points for the Lakers, who will finish with a losing record on the season. Brook Lopez added 20 points, while Julius Randle had 18 points and 10 rebounds.

TIMBERWOLVES 93, MAVERICKS 92

DALLAS (AP) - Karl-Anthony Towns had 21 points and 20 rebounds, Jamal Crawford scored 24 points and Minnesota held off Dallas to gain ground in the tight Western Conference playoff race.

After shooting just 34 percent in the first half and trailing until midway through the third quarter, the Wolves turned to Crawford, who scored 15 points after halftime.

He hit three consecutive shots, including a 3 over a 1:14 stretch of the fourth quarter to give Minnesota a 74-68 lead. Nemanja Bjelica, scoreless for the first three quarters, hit two 3s to extend it to 85-73.

Harrison Barnes led Dallas with 19 points, and Dennis Smith Jr. had 17.

JAZZ 107, GRIZZLIES 97

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Donovan Mitchell scored 22 points and Dante Exum had a season-high 21 to lead Utah over Memphis.

Exum played strong defense and was just one short of his career best as he shot 8 of 10 in the absence of Ricky Rubio.

Joe Ingles, playing the point, had 17 points and 10 rebounds. Royce O'Neale added 13 points for the Jazz, who are jockeying for playoff position in the Western Conference.

Marc Gasol missed just one shot - a long 3-pointer - in scoring 28 points, but didn't play in the fourth quarter when the Grizzlies may have needed him the most.

BULLS 90, MAGIC 82

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Rookie Lauri Markkanen and Sean Kilpatrick each scored 13 points, rookie Ryan Arcidiacono had all of his eight points in the fourth quarter, and Chicago snapped a seven-game losing streak.

Arcidiacono's 3-pointer started a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter for the Bulls, who took an 80-71 lead and held on to complete a four-game season sweep of the Magic.

Aaron Gordon scored 18 points for Orlando, which went scoreless for almost six minutes of the fourth quarter and shot 33 percent for the game. Nikola Vucevic had 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Magic (22-53).

Armadillo: Saturday's six-pack

Highest opening day payrolls in major leagues:

1) Red Sox $223M

2) Giants $203M

3) Cubs $183M

T4) Dodgers, Nationals both $180M

6) Angels $170M

7) Bronx $167M

**********

Armadillo: Saturday's List of 13: Random stuff with weekend here??

13) Aaron Calixte scored 17 ppg for a Maine basketball team that went 6-26, playing in a weak America East Conference, the #25 Division I conference (out of 32) in America.

Joe Cremo scored 18 ppg, David Nichols 14.5 ppg for an Albany team that went 22-10, but only 10-6 in America East- they lost in first round of AE tourney two of last three years, but the Great Danes have made the tournament five times since 2006.

All three of these players have bolted their schools before their senior years, looking for greener pastures. Maine fired their coach after the season; Calixte has been pursued by big-name schools such as Florida State.

Albany has had four players transfer in the last week; something is amiss. Great Danes have won 133 games the last six years; when four players bolt a winning program at the same time, there is stuff going on that the general public can?t see.

12) I?m an Albany graduate (yes, I graduated from college!!!); I put myself thru school as student manager of the basketball team, but we were D-3 back then. Very good team, but D-3 is worlds apart from D-1. To see the Great Danes become a successful team at the D-1 level has been fun- coach Will Brown is a good guy who has built a consistent, winning program, but this isn?t good.

When your two best returning players jump ship at the same time, its not a good sign.

11) 29% of major leaguers on Opening Day (254 players) weren?t born in this country.

10) A 36-year old accountant who hadn?t played in anything but beer league hockey games in over a decade played the last 14:01 for the Blackhawks Thursday, after both Chicago goalies got hurt in the game, a 7-2 win over Winnipeg. Scott Foster stopped all seven shots he faced.

9) Oakland Raiders released P Marquette King, the 4th-highest paid punter in the NFL.

8) Temple basketball coach Fran Dunphy will step aside after next season and be succeeded by current assistant Aaron McKie, who played for the Owls.

7) Guy who owns a casino in Las Vegas has a $25,000 bet on Michigan to win the national title, which nets him $1,000,000 if the Wolverines win the championship. Derek Stevens owns the D Casino in Las Vegas and is a Michigan alum? he made the bet at the Golden Nugget.

Funny thing though, I know a guy who is a very knowledgeable sports bettor and Golden Nugget won?t let him bet more than $1,000 on a game. Go figure.

6) Makes no sense to me that Ron Gardenhire is a major league manager and Joe Girardi isn?t.

5) Cincinnati International Airport is actually located in Kentucky.

4) Rusty Staub is the only major leaguer who got 500+ hits for four different teams.

3) Houston Astros have used four outfielders on defense this spring, when lefty hitters Jay Bruce, Logan Morrison and Justin Bour were batting. This defense leaves the entire left side of the infield open- it apparently will only be used when the bases are empty.

2) Royals lost C Salvador Perez with a knee injury that he got while carrying luggage up stairs. He is expected to be out 6-8 weeks

1) ESPN reported how the Las Vegas Raiders opened negotiations with a guy who owns the 7,000-yard Bali Hai golf course in Las Vegas, so they can convert the golf course into stadium parking for the new domed stadium in the desert. That guy is Billy Walters, who is currently in federal prison on insider trading charges. Complicated.
