A great guy I knew really well through his friendship with my next door neighbor passed away yesterday in his own place. He was ~ 39 and had been trying to deal with the fever/symptoms on his own. This is horrible. I can't imagine what his family is going through right now.

I hate hearing those stories and have been hearing more and more of them. You never know how this thing will affect you. My stepson had mild symptoms but he still hasn't gotten his smell or taste back and it's been about 5 months. I'll take that over your buddy.

Only sharing to help drive the point home that this shit is killing healthy, young people too. Affects some people differently. Protect yourself and stay safe.

Very sorry to hear this. I hope some on this board read your post and possibly benefit from taking extra precaution.

Stats as of 11:59pm EST March 17th from World Health Organization

Just some stats to put things in perspective.........

184,976 confirmed cases

159 countries, areas or territories with cases

7,529 deaths

Current Population of Planet Earth = 7.77 Billion

And let's say things get really bad, like a 20 times worse, ok screw it like 50 times worse. That would mean about 376,000 dead. Which would still be a minuscule number of deaths worldwide. Yes 376,000 dead is a big number, but when you compare it with a population of 7.77 billion, the number is tiny. Even if things got 100x worse then they are now, guess what, that number would still be low.

Again, currently 7,529 deaths worldwide, it would sure suck if you were one of them, but on a World Population scale that number is nothing.

Note: Almost all that have died were already unhealthy, and most were elderly.

How did that work out for Gov. Cuomo ?

I just began semi retirement and took a PT job as a golf ranger at a local course here. (Approved at Bethpage but they wanted me to work a crazy ridiculous schedule and I'm not doing that.). The pay sucks and I'm only doing it for the free golf. I was required to get Covid vaccines and just came back from second Pfizer three hours ago. I have to wait 10 days before I can work. I'm very concerned about getting ill from second dose it as I had the flu two years ago and wanted to off myself it was so bad. If I have adverse reactions I'll post it. I know it's only been a few hours but so far, so good. When I was there, they told me there may be a booster I'd need to take 6-12 months down the road. Don't know how accurate that info was though.

10 hours after second dose and other than a tender (not even sore) left arm, all is good. Just made plans to golf tomorrow.

Soreness, where the vaccine was given, is normal. It will pass in a few days. If there were adverse reactions, they would have appeared already.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
About 14% of folks (95% of these are males) have a genetic mutation which messes up the antibody response to Covid, making them suffer more.

https://www.nih.gov/news-events/new...ogic-underpinnings-some-cases-severe-covid-19

....

Last year a big study showed a particular gene folks inherited from Neanderthals doubled their risk of severe Covid, increased chance of death. This gene is most common among folks in SE Asia, much less in rest of Asia and Europe, non existent in Africa. Indeed, folks noticed most the doctors and nurses dying in UK hospitals were Indian or Pakistani....Also, the Covid strain most prominent in Europe was more severe than the one in SE Asia, helping perhaps to explain why death rates back in home countries not as bad..

But to complicate the picture, which science likes to do, a recent study showed another Neanderthal gene that reduced the risk of Covid infection risk by 22%

12% of folks in US have had both Covid vaccine shots. About a quarter have had at least one shot....

The single shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine just rolling out now... in the future we will say how many with 1 shot partial immunity (which is still very strong, like 92% protection after 2 weeks of 1st shot) and full immunized immunity (2 weeks after final dose)....and yes, a booster shot for variants will be available end of year or so
...

The surprising quick decline of Covid cases and deaths after the holiday surge is much steeper than previous ones. Due in part to seasonal effects and immunizations, but seems also some X factor. I think the virus is having a harder time finding those super spreaders..

...

...

.. more studies out every day showing the vaccines having some good effect vs the 3 bad variants out there. And this Covid virus is rather simple, it?s only trick is some protein spikes. Not any fancy thing like measles virus, which erases previous immune history... let alone HIV, which has a dozen tricks..

So I don?t see a 4th surge in hospitalizations or deaths, just a mild one in positive cases, perhaps...I expect folks be back to mostly "normal" by end of summer, herd immunity at end of year, or early next year...
