It is a privilege to have insurance not a right,
Thats your hick ass opinion. Its called morals. You have none.
It is a privilege to have insurance not a right,
This is one of the main problems that has been building in this country for years. Obama has a chance to do something about it and in my opinion he better do it fast.
We just got the news that my cousins husband Mike died last night. He was 47, father of 3, hard working man. The kind of guy that built America. Not a high priced CEO but a mechanic, who ran a small garage.
He had suffered from back pain but lived on pain pills and ice and heat and anything to stop the pain. He went to work everyday and lived with the pain.
Being in business for himself and having a young family he couldn't afford great health insurance so he stayed away from doctors.
When he finally went to have his back checked out they discovered he had lung cancer and it had spread throughout his body. He died 5 days after discovering he had cancer.
I know we wil hear from the guys saying he should have taken another job or his wife could have worked for insurance. Being as he ran his own garage some nights he had to stay late to finish a job. His wife stayed home with the kids.
A hard working man, trying to live the American dream, struck down in his prime because he couldn't afford the health care.
This is a great country but it is slipping away from us day by day. It is disgusting that this happens in America.
Yes, Stevie. America let him down, because this same story plays out several thousand times a day across this country. Personally, I have no time for the "I got mine, you get yours" crowd. I want this country to be better tomorrow than it is today for ALL Americans, not just the fortunate ones. It's easy for the "haves" to look down upon the "have-nots" but life is not played on a level field.
Why is it there's never a peep from "small government" advocates about the size of our Defense Budget or Corporate Welfare or the dozens of Social Programs that benefit their family but the prospect of Universal Healthcare gets them frothing at the mouth?
Marine... I agree that no one should live with pain for months or years before getting it checked out regardless of the out-of-pocket expense. I'm speaking to the broader problem of the uninsured, the under-insured, insurance companies that drop coverage on patients that develop serious illness, the exhorbitant cost of Cobra, skyrocketing healthcare costs that are killing both large businesses and small, etc. Our healthcare system is out of control. The guy already had health insurance!
You think if we had universal healthcare it would have played out differently? He still wouldn't have gone to the doctor's office because he would have had to wait in line longer, which he couldn't afford to do given he ran his own business.
Now I know that you think universal healthcare is going to make rainbows shoot out of our @sses, but not everything is a commercial for free healthcare.
Clearly Hedgehog is a free loader. Stevie, I'm sorry that good capitalistic patriots like yourself are footing the bill for socialist fuckwads like him.
As you all know there is different levals of insurance. I happen to have excellent insurance. I pay a small co pay and if I need an opeartion or anything it is all covered. Then there is insurance like my daughter had. She pays $1000 for an MRI. If she goes into the hospital she is on the hook for anout 1/3 of the cost. Needless to say, she ain't seeing too many doctors.
This guy had the best insurance he could afford. But it was more on the lines of the kind my daughter had. Having a house and a family he was not about to go into the hospital for thousands of dollars of test.
This guy was a small business owner. Yes you people aere so fast to throw him under the bus.
Again, I am not looking for Government Health Care but I am wanting the whole system overhauled because the cost are completly out of line.

IMO, no Americans should be foregoing healthcare because the out-of-pocket expenses are cost-prohibitive, but hundreds of thousands do everyday. I'm curious why you're convinced Universal Healthcare would always mean long lines though. Maybe you could elaborate...
and ironically enough, I know many many people that will drive around in unsafe cars or let that rattle last way too long because they can't afford to take their car into the mechanic/don't have the ability to pay the outrageous costs associated with car repairs on today's newer cars.
No one is throwing him under the bus. I know I am more angry at you for blaming America for this.
The high cost of COBRA? COBRA is nothing more than paying the premiums yourself. Of course it's going to cost more.
Think about this:
The Government runs the postal system. We have a "universal postal system" so to speak.
Yet it sucks
and we have UPS, FedEx, and DHL that all charge more than USPS and take better care of your letters/packages.
It's gotten so bad that the US Post office can't operate under budget so more.
Millions of people won't even trust the government with their mail.
And your eager to line up and give them our bodies?

Where in the Constitution does it say that the wealthy deserve better health care than the working man?
I'm curious why you're convinced Universal Healthcare would always mean long lines though. Maybe you could elaborate...
It's on the line right after it says every swinging d*ck has the god given right to health care sponsored by the gov't.
When you find it, let me know. My copy seems to be missing that part.
Who said anything had to be run by the government. That is not the argument. Maybe after you get over that you can start to really debate the issue at hand. The issue is that Health Care costs are way out of line. It is criminal that working men and woman cannot obtain health care they can afford. Maybe, if people like you, get with the real argument then we can start to change things in America. But if you want to argue State run health care versus what we have now than start a thread and do that. This thread is about Health Care Costs not about who pays for it. So swing your dick around that.
again I am befuddled by your changing of gears. The gentleman in question HAD healthcare. Obviously it was of value to him if he was paying for it.
Things cost money. Yup, believe it or not, goods and services cost money. That is what kinda baffles me the most about the people who argue about the cost of health care I guess.
I just can't comprehend how people assume that when the healthcare industry spends billions of dollars a year on research, development, learning, understanding.. to combat disease and create cures.. they are supposed to hand it over for free.
Again you totally mis-represent everything that was said. Maybe you really do not understand. No one here is asking for anything for free. All we are asking for is a fair price. If you, in fact, believe that the cost of medical care in this country is fair and not out of line than that is all you have to say. It has nothing to do with getting anything for free or state run healthcare or anything else. It was a very simple concept. Is the cost of Healthcare too high?
