Good list Pepin.

Here's my top ten list of movies (that I can/have watched over and over and over -- to the point where I have the dialogue memorized.

(1) The Godfather (Parts 1 and 2 are arguably the best movies and movie anthology ever made)
(2) The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (brilliant soundtrack, witty dialogue, awesome performances -- especially from Eli Wallach as the Mexican)
(3) The Shawshank Redemption (very uplifting message, set in a prison -- written by Stephen King -- perhaps the best movie of the 1990s)
(4) Dirty Harry (the first one was a classic, creating a cult of personality for Clint Eastwood)
(5) All the President's Men (No other movie has captured the frustration of trying to get to the "truth." Absolutely first-rate)
(6) The Dirty Dozen (Great war movie, with wonderful performances)
(7) Glengary Glen Ross (Damid Mamet film with awesome cast, staggering dialogue, Jack Lemmon should have won an Oscar for his role)
(8) Dr. Strangelove (37 years after it was made, everything in this movie could still happen -- a movie way ahead of it's time)
(9) The Young Lions (Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift and Dean Martin in a war movie -- need I say more?)
(10) From Here to Eternity (A masterpiece.....another movie way ahead of its time)
ONE MORE: (11) Witness for the Prosecution (great movie and surprise ending in this Agatha Christie film)
ONE MORE: (12) Cool Hand Luke (aside from being a great movie, this film has many messages -- it belongs on a level with Shakespeare in terms of literary devices)

My list of Great "bad" movies:

(1) The Born Losers (1967 biker movie starring Billy Jack...the motercycle gang is unitnentionally funny)
(2) Mr. Majestic (Charles Bronson is a watermellon farmer fighting the mob)
(3) The Getaway (Steve McQueen is a bankrobber)
(4) The Hot Rock (Robert Redford and a band of diamond theives)
(5) Cops and Robbers (obscure 1973 film about a coupel of cops who decide to rob a bank -- great ending)

My list of the best gambling movies ever made:

(1) The Hustler
(2) The Cincinnati Kid
(3) The Gambler (James Caan)
(4) Casino

I'll give it a rest and let others chime in....

Have to agree with staggering dialogue in Glengary Ross. Great flick.

When I was a young boy, I remember my brother and I walking to the movie theater on a sunny Saturday to see "From Here To Eternity." We're going back 40 plus years here. If I remember correctly, didn't Mickey Rooney get shot and killed while standing in a tree, then his gambling winnings fell out of his shirt and floated to the ground?

I'll chime in with the most thought provoking and far and away best movie of all time that I've seen...FIGHT CLUB.

Unfortunately poorly named, ineptly marketed as a violent flick, it is a movie that should be seen by all. The title and marketing scared away a lot of viewers who would've enjoyed it. Nolan, have you seen it? I peg you as someone that would enjoy it and have a lot to say about it's themes. It is "non-hollywood" and a little alternative, but well worth the time...what more can I say?
