Call me simplistic, but most of my favorites are comedies:

10. Road House - I never get tired of hearing the fat guy at the end saying, "The Bear fell on me." Thanks to TNT I can watch it pretty much on a daily basis.

9. CaddyShack - Why did they make #2?

8. Austin Powers (2) The Spy that Shagged Me - Thank goodness they made #2

7. Tombstone - Val Kilmer should have won some kind of award for the portrayal of Doc Holliday.

6. the GodFather I - Just incredible!!!!!

5. King Pin - Bill Murray was just fantastic as the "villan". I feel intimidated being surrounded by so many great athletes. Great line!

4. Cabin Boy - Chris Elliot is hillarious, if you have an hour and fifteen minutes to spare, watch it. You even get to see David Letterman ask, If you want to buy a monkey.

3. Animal House - Speaks for itself

2. Pulp Fiction - Say WHAT AGAIN!!!!

1. Slap Shot - Tell me you can't stop lauging when one of the Hanson brothers says to the ref during the National Anthem..."I am listening to the f***ing song.

I can't believe noone in this group has mentioned "The Sting." I thought that would be on at least half of our Top 10 lists.

1. Braveheart
2. Forrest Gump (if you enjoyed the movie, you need to read the book because there are a lot more things that happen to him)
3. Return of the Jedi
4. The Sting
5. Tron

Good:

To Kill A Mokingbird
Wild River (1961?)
The Thin Red Line (the original - '60 or so)
The Year of Living Dangerously
Crazy People
Outlaw Josey Wales
Lonely are the Brave
Dances with Wolves

Bad:

War of the Roses
The Money Pit
Joe and the Volcano

I didn't know Stephen King wrote Shawshank either.
I usually don't care for movies of his stuff.
Looks like I don't like Tom Hanks either.
Thought the best part of a few good men was the courtroom scene where Nicholson showed us who the actor is.

i had a feeling a lot of movies would pop up, stuff we kind of forget.

nolan, did you have your list pre-printed?
you are so right, dr. strangelove, and the spaghetti westerns, yes, i have seen them many times and will keep seeing them.

jack, one flew...., fletch, apocalypse now, although i don't know if i want to watch these too frequently, especially apocal.

some of the john candy, steve martin, were just hilarious and can watch forever, like planes, train, the scoundrel, the one were steve martin is a mobster and he rats. and how about "volunteers" with whats his name.

happy, you have missed a lot of funny ones listed on this thread.

anyway, i must write some of these down for whenever i find them in blockbuster for 5 bucks, to add to my funny library.

ah, what memories.

Pep:

See what you started! Now, we are all reminding each other of films that we missed or didn't think of the first time around. A few other comments:

ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOOS NEST -- This definitely belongs on a top-ten list. I forgot it. It tells us that the real "crazies" are often on the "outside" and in positions of power and authority.

ANY COEN BOTHERS MOVIE (The Big Lebowski, Fargo, Raising Arizona) -- terrific dialogue and witty characters are a trademark of ever Coen movie I've seen.

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE -- I love this freakin' movie. It's a camp classic. They made it for like $100,000 in 1972.

MOMMY DEAREST -- It's so disgracefully bad, that it's actually very watchable.

(WOODIE ALLEN MOVIES) -- Lots of good candidates...his best include Bananas and Crimes and Misdemeanors.....Annie Hall, right up there too. Allen either hits, or misses.

THE GRADUATE -- Every male who ever watches this was Dustin Hoffman in his life at one time or another.

HARRY AND TONTO -- Art Carney won an Oscar for playing an old man who travels from New York to Los Angeles, with his pet cat. He sees the country and we learn about life through his experience.

DIVA -- The best foreign movie I've ever seen. Made in France about 20 years ago. Young boy worships and Opera star.

DAS BOOT -- Truly, the best war movie ever made, in my opinion.

PATTON -- Incredible movie that stands the test of time. George C Scott *IS* Patton.

SCHINDLERS LIST -- Overall, the best movie ever made in my opinion (writing, music, cinematography, direction, acting, social significance) -- although not exactly a "fun" movie to watch.

APOCOLYPSE NOW -- In my Top Five personally, but I haven't seen it in at least ten years. Coppolla is re-releasing it this Summer as a director's cut. Something tells me it may not hold up over time and be as powerful now as it was when it first came out. If you liked Apocolypse, be sure and rent HEARTS OF DARKNESS, which is a documentary about the making of this movie. It's fascinating, as well.

NORTH BY NORTHWEST -- Lot's of great Hitchcock movies out there....this may have been his best.

MIDNIGHT COWBOY -- Not shown very often, but an absolutely engrossing tale of two hustlers who are broke in New York City and who develop the most unlikly of freindships. Fabulous performances.

AND NOW, MOST OVER-RATED MOVIES OF ALL-TIME (sure to cause anger with my collegaues...just off the top of my head):

1. CITIZEN KANE -- I consider myself a serious movie buff, but have never understood the fascination critics have for this film. Can anyone explain?

2. STAR WARS -- I just don't get it. A bunch of space ships and special effects. Big deal. It bored the sh*t out of me. I even walked out of the last Stars Wars movie that was released in 1998. It was perhaps the worst movie I've ever seen. Wife and I went ot the dollar movie -- and we both thought we wre ripped off!

3. TITANTIC -- Decent movie, but 6 Oscars, including Best Film? Way overrated.

4. OUT OF AFRICA -- Dull. Boring. A horrible movie. Won Best Picture in 1983.

5. CALIGULA -- This is the worst piece of garbage I have ever seen. Rapes, violence, ceaseless profanity, all of which don't bother me if they relate to the story...but this is just junk. Rent a porno movie, instead.

6. GONE WITH THE WIND -- Long and boring. I've never been able to sit through it and stay awake. The most over-rated movie of all-time IMHO.

Senor Capper, please let me know next time Tommy Chong is going to be at your place. I will make a special trip out there. I would really like to meet the man. He is one of my favorite actors. Also would like to sit down with you and Fletch and talk sports.

Good luck in the future,
Big Daddy
