looks like we are getting into a different category, like actors, directors. once again, nolan brought out another dandy, the woody allen movies.

CASABLANCA!!!!!

some actors carried a following and caught our attention in most of their movies, sometimes making it hard to choose a best one from them:

eastwood, sellers, allen, connery, bogart, rooney, hanks, wayne. there are a few more for sure.

i don't know if it's a cuban thing, but i can watch "havana" with robert redford, alan arkin, over and over. (redford is related to nolan in this one, or viceversa). gambling, action, romance, light humor.

Thanks Pepin......I'll take the Redford role (and his salary) if you agree to play Arkin -- the casino boss. One thing about the movie "Havana" -- how do those guys all keep their shirts and suits so wrinkle-free? When I've been in Florida (90 miles from Cuba), I sweat like wet pig and my shirts look like a slept in them.

Only in the movies.

jack

aside from his wit and his own style, allen represents in many ways the old world's folks, their fears, insecurities, etc., which many of us with recent ties can relate to quite easily. i have a feeling that those that are 4th or more generation americans, with no ties to the old world, may not grasp it.

jackie mason is another one, different style. he cracks me up to no end because i can relate to it from the elders in my family, which is not jewish.

jackie mason probably identifies more with 1st generation europeans, allen with 2nd or 3rd, questioning inherited values, etc.

one thing is for sure, most people here agree on a few movies, but by going over the different titles posted, we can apply the saying of "different strokes for different folks".

nolan: agree, but give me my hair; arkin is hurting on the rooftop.

I like Woody Allens movies. He's just a Creep as a person. I mean Child molester. I can't understand how you can't differentiate between a step daughter and some young strange?(and she was too young)

I know I've missed a few - but would rate "The Hustler" at number one followed by "Goodfellas", "Casino" and "Pulp Fiction". For comedy, would have to go to "Airplane" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."
