Just wanted to give my two cents?I do not know if games are fixed or can be fixed nowadays. But it is a fact games have been fixed before and that players have admitted to knowing the point spreads in pro football and especially college sports. I have a book at home in which it is admitted that the colts/giants championship game(the greatest game ever played) was put over the total because players had money on the over. If anyone doubts this I will get the book tonight and post the name, author and page number as I dont have it right now. I know this was in a time when sports were more likely to be fixed but... Anyways, I dont think games are fixed, but I think players are 100% knowledgable about point spreads and covering or not covering. Officials have admitted to this as well. What this means to an outcome who knows, but watching an official stop or let roll a clock late in game needs to be scutinized and watching if players run out of bounds when they are ahead late(Miami last night on the reverse) or not can indicate something.

teams that get no respect know the spread.

Tennessee coach and players were mad that Vegas made them 18 point underdogs against Florida. Both teams know the spread, my friend played for the Gators, I won't name names, but I met and him told him i was hit Florida State over Virginia TEch in the sugar bowl and he said he made a killing on that game. I couldn't believe my ears.

i want to clear something up in regards to my earlier post:

it has nothing to do with the miami game, and certainly not with overs and unders, which is the hardest thing to control, as in that situation you would need a tremendous conspiracy, involving many.

it is shaving (the mildest), to actually turning a game around. as long as there is money involved there will be corruption, whether it is sports, government, or whatever. and not all payoffs involve money.

i would be willing to bet a couple of bucks that there are several, if not dozens or even hundreds of individuals who "own" or at least have a certain control over a number of
players, coaches, aides, refs, even ground keepers in the nfl. add baseball, basketball, etc. and the list could be quite big.

these people don't have to be friends or partners necessarily, and may at times act (unknowingly) in collusion with each other.

the rule i try to use is that if i perceive that a team is too unsteady, i avoid playing it one way or the other. it may be a number of things, including but not limited to cheating.

my personal perception, although i am far removed from it, is that fixing is an everyday thing in college sports, which i avoid like the plague.

and to be fair and not sound like an extremist, my personal opinion is that very few nfl games have a certain degree of "fixing", perhaps one a week or one every other week. i consider that part of the risk i take when i gamble.

I don't know about the MNF total being fixed in this case, but to say that no NFL games are fixed is laughable. There are "fixes" in every sport, even the professional ones. Like others have said, even if games are not fixed, the players and coaches know the spreads. I'm not saying every game is fixed. I would say that very few are, but fixes do exist.

That's why...

keep up the smartass remarks! Games have been fixed and some will continue to be fixed. IF u read my earlier post, I said that I dont know if this game was fixed but some have been in the past. In regards to the guy about the officials, I dont care how much screening they have, if someone were to throw a couple hundred thousand in front of your face, they wouldn't reject it. As far as players are concerned, all they want is lots of money. so why wouldn't they? hmmmmm, come on, lets hear the smartass remarks......

I am sure my book waits for me to place my wager then gets on the phone..
Calls the NFL and the fix is on.

On the course!
Games most certainly can be "fixed", but every oddball break gets some yahoo hooting about a fix!

I would not be so naive as to say it can't happen, but it sure as shit ain't gonna happen on an over!

There is no way you could control that!

How many guys would need to be in that scheme to pull this off? The defense would need to let the other team score. That is the only way it could get done. You can't guarentee that your offense will score, so you would need to make sure the other team did!

If you are going to "throw a game" that involves multiple players (22 at a minimum), coaches, and few scoring opportunities......it is, indeed, a Hurculean task!

Your best bet would be to look at the refs for a "fix".

Low paid, (in regards to what they could get from a 'fix') can alter any play, and can put a team in a position to score, or take a score away!

Let's face it.......a couple of Pass Inter. calls in the endzone would rack up some points! I still don't see a big case to be made out of this.

The coaches fixed the game!!!

I can read lips, and when Mora and Dave met in the middle of the field after the game, I can tell Mora told Dave, "I'm going to act like I'm mad at you okay" and Dave replied, "good idea!!" And then after a few jibbering, Dave said "Good job telling your men not to tackle on that last scoring play for the over winner!!!" and MOra replied "Yah, cha ching baby!!!!" and then to make it look real again, Mora said "Asshole" and Dave goes, "lets do this again" and MOra said "hell ya" and then both went their separate ways.

hey hello there, let me explain something to you before u open your mouth bigshot. I do believe that there are fixed games, BUT as one person said, not on every freaking stupid break means its fixed. AND IT DOESN"T TAKE MULTIPLE PLAYERS! One guy can blow his coverage ONCE or twice. cause we know in the NFl, that can make a difference. Does it not cross your mind that a player can fumble on purpose. hmmmmm, dont get in this thread if you're gonna be a smartass. Fixes have happened and will continue to happen. hey, its only money!

I would simply like to add my thoughts and I agree whole-heartedly to what shmuly said ealier.

What is all this talk about talking a knee?
If they didn't for the first 3 downs, why would they on the 4th?

Why would they not hand it to a guy to give him a chance at his first TD?

If they Indi defense can't stop a 4th and 9 running play then they deserve to be scored on.
It was the right call, and pathetic (what else is new) defense by the Colts.

As for 'fixing', numerous events occur each week that you can't handicap.....Untimely fumbles, interceptions, bad coaching, bad reads etc. etc.
A terrible Indi defense is NOT one of them.

What I don't understand is that if so many people are complaining about games being fixed (There's been a 'FIXED' thread nearly every week)why are they still betting on them

Certain situations that could be defined as "ironic" are not the same as "fixin" a game. Why is it that the only people who cry "fix" always appear to be on the losing side of a particular proposition? It's much easier to cry "fix" than it is to admit to yourself that you chose the wrong side. People have a history of placing blame where it doens't belong. An effortless performance by a lazy ass athlete doesn't necessarily mean that he's somehow involved in a scheme to affect the outcome of a game. Perhaps our definition of a "FIX" is interpreted differently. I consider a "FIX" to consist of numerous individuals and officials whose actions are the result of determining the outcome of an event. I DO NOT consider some player that purposely fumbles the ball b/c he's got a couple of Ben Franklins bet with his roomate a "FIX". Reason being that the particular "FIXER" can't control the actions of the other players or officials. I think for it to be considered a TRUE "FIX", then there will have to be numerous individuals involved to make certain that the outcome of the game is predetermined. If your definition is the same, then I find it quite comical and ludicrous that you believe such a series of events could take place in this day and time.

Dale Jr's victory at the second Daytona race this year was ironic, but not "fixed". Sure it was strange that Dale Jr. won the race that his father unfortunately was killed on, but I don't think it was somehow rigged to make all the pieces fall in place. In order for this to happen, then every driver, crew member, and Nascar officials would have had to be in on it. Do ya really think that is possible? Do ya think it would've probably leaked by now?

These are people who get caught driving vans of weed a year after retirement, tooting coke with prostitutes in hotel rooms, stealing cars,a lot less complicated crimes than a "fix" would have to be.How come there has NEVER been one documented case proving the fixing a pro football game in the modern era(lets say '70s to now for laughs)if it goes on every year?(Someone said on another thread that the players in the '59 championship game had the "over" and made it go to overtime. They probably had off season jobs the made very little scratch.)Why are these fixers able to not get caught or talk about their crimes if they can't execute much lesser crimes without getting caught?

On the course!
NFL.com has just released some stats from an anonymous poll of the refs:

68% have had their animals "fixed".

How long will this go on?

excuse me, can someone answer my question? Did I say every game is fixed?

Here is an example for those of you who don't understand! You are a rookie that has come out of a very poor family. YOu are a grea great athlete and are taken in the 2nd round of the draft. You get lots of money. But in this world, lots of money just isn;t enough. So you start selling weed and comminting crimes to get other money. Well, a guy stops you at your car after practice. he says, "hey, here is 50,000 dollars. All you have to do is blow one coverage on defense. Just allow your man to score one time. You think, well hell, 50,000 for one blown coverage, what the hell. THERE YA GO, THATS HOW IT WORKS

What happens if his team is leading by 30 with 2 mins. left, and he blows the cover, does he still get the 50,000?
