First, please allow me to preface this post....I'm purposely trying to provoke kickserv here, so that he can achieve his 15,000th post! I just noticed he sits at 14,999.:scared

Are you really sure your Federer future is safe? Have you watched any of Soderling's matches during this Roland Garros run? Federer is very fortunate to be in the finals....Soderling will not be as generous as his previous opponents, as he will not let Fed off the hook on Sunday. I envision your man crush #2 (GSP obviously #1) eventually crumpling under the pressure, here. As the Swede hoists the 2009 French trophy, I also predict an Aussy Open like tear-fest from Roger (knowing he blew another big chance). Have you ever considered that we may be witnessing the arrival of the new, younger version of Fed in Soderling? :mj07:

All kidding aside, I appreciate you posting all of your tennis, MMA, hockey, and other testicle-type picks over the years. It's great having you around MadJacks.

Congratulations on 15K, you degenerate! :142smilie :mj06:

I'd say it would be nice to see Soderling win his first grand slam, but it would be nicer to see Fed win his first French.

Also, nobody comes close to GSP, nobody:142smilie

I just don't see Fed losing this final, this is his chance to win the French and I just don't see him going down. Sure Soderling is on fire, but this is a Grand Slam final and I think he will buckle to the pressure. Fed wins, that's how I see it.

Plus, Soderling is a dick, almost none of the players like this guy, most of the guys on tour are good dudes, but Soderling ain't one of em. Not that you have to be a nice guy to win a tennis match, but just hard to cheer for a dick.

And ummmm does this mean I get 15 thousand bucks (15K posts):mj07:

Ah, my ploy worked. 15K secured....posts that is. You'll have to ask the boss (MJ) about the 15K in cash that he won't be giving you in return. :)

Soderling being a brat is actually something that will help him in the final, he doesn't care one bit what people think of him..
I agree though he can have nerve problems ( but so does Fed).

About Fed being a sure thing, you just need to witness how desperate he was vs Del Potro, barely, barely, barely winning vs an oponnent he already had beaten 4 times without losing a set.

Had his forehand landed 1 cm away instead on the line on break point in the third vs Haas, he would be probably out.

Fed is far from a "sure thing", this is men's tennis, anyone can beat anyone, nobody is a sure thing.

I've seen reference to Soderlng being a dick over and over but I've seen no evidence of it the whole French tournament, especially his interviews which have been fine. I'm a fairly new tennis fanatic so apparentlly I've missed many of these dickhead moves over the years, but I'll say this- What the Fukk is with Rafa picking at his ass 60 times a match- it's classless and I saw youtube footage of the contentious Soder-Rafa match at Wimbledon 05 and it was good to see Soda make reference to that during their digs... Wilander mentioned something about nice to see someone stand up to Rafa and all his tiresome superstitious antics...

Ok, guys....I've had a very profitable week of wagering thanks to following kickserv in tennis, hitting several of my own tennis plays, and following other MJ cappers in baseball. It is due to this that I'm willing to simply let my Soderling +550 future bet ride. Sorry, kickserv....I've always had good success following your tennis action and respect your opinions, but I'm not going to be able to root for Fed in this one. :( It may be at my own peril, but taking the Soderling bet before his semifinal match was a gut instinct and I don't like to go against those feelings. Also, I don't have an exorbitant amount on it, so if it hits it will definitely be a nice payday, but if not I'll accept the loss just fine. :)

Additionally, after thinking more about this match I truly believe Soderling is the better player in their respective current forms. Yeah, I know....that is just crazy, right? Well, I chose to back the Swede against Gonzo based on him taking down Ferrer, Nadal, and Davydenko in impressive fashion. Now, we've added Gonzalez to the list of Soderling conquests and there is simply no way I'm stepping in front of the Swedish freight train.

Also, once again, Robin is not getting respect from the linesmakers. What more does he have to do? This line is only this shaded toward Federer, because of RF's name, alone. It is certainly not a true reflection of where each of these two players' games are at the moment. No doubt, just based on experience Fed should be a slight fave here, but nothing like -425. That is just ridiculous. Sure, the 0-9 head to head doesn't help, but I'm talking about the present here. Roger is fortunate to still be around on multiple levels, while Soderling has been winning mostly in dominant fashion. The dude hasn't lost a set worse than 6-4 in the past fortnight. (BTW, best time to make use of the word fortnight is at the end of a Grand Slam tennis tournament....seriously, when the hell else are you going to use it?? :142smilie). Adding another tidbit, Soderling has done all of this damage against the much tougher side of the draw.

IMO, this is not the same invincible Fed of several years ago. Of course, everyone and their brother thinks it is a foregone conclusion that this is Federer's time, but I just don't think it's that easy. The weight of the world and tennis history is seemingly on Fed's shoulders and lest we forget how he dealt with that same type of pressure in the 5th set of the Australian earlier this year. For me, any question of Soderling's old mental fragilities popping up were erased with the steely resolve he showed in the deciding set against Gonzalez. You come back from 4-1 down in the decider like that, and you have to wonder if perhaps it is Sod's destiny to win and not Federer's? Anyway, the way I see it is I've got extra value odds on a very live dog that is more powerful, younger, and playing out of his mind.

OK, so I've made my opinions known on the big match. I can't wait to watch it. Win or lose, this should be fun. Tennis really is a fantastic sport that, IMO, isn't appreciated enough by the average American sports fan.

Good Luck to All,

-JC

so true about fortnight....I mean you never use that word in a sentance unless it is in regards to tennis:mj07:

And I agree Soderling is a live dog no question. No way Fed should be this big a fave.

You should at least bet one unit or 1.5 on soderling.
You still win big if Federer wins but you still win money if Soderling pulls it off.
One lesson i learned after many years at these odds you always secure a win.

Shades of Michael Chang vs Edberg 20 years ago ?
That would be a tremendous upset once again.

We'll see.
