The last 5 setter Fed played didn't turn out very well for him...nothing is in the bag yet.

Reading all these posts now that I'm home for lunch. Funny, I guess, is the gambler's perspective. As a Soderling backer, I didn't feel Gonzo collapsed....he had spent so much energy getting the match back to level. At 2-0 in sets, it was Soderling's match and he began to blow it, but Gonzo's level of play at the time had a lot to do with it. I definitely sensed it slipping away, but Robin showed unbelievable grit and determination to take 5 straight games to close it out! Hard to believe what Magnus Norman has done to this guy's mental attitude is such short time.

So, while I empathize with those on Fernando, it sure seems like a stretch to say he gagged that one away. IMO, Soderling played brilliantly again, hit a rough patch, then found a way to dig deep, regain his wonderful form and ultimately win a match he deserved. :00hour

But then again, I had a healthy sized wager on the big Swede, so I obviously see things a bit differently right now.

I felt Gonzalez blew it at 4-1.
He relaxed and let Soderling back into it, then couldn't come back into the game.
The guy is going to feel mad for a few months.

Anybody like to guess where this Sunday line comes out? How heavy of a fav do you think Fed will be?

Fed -500; in 9 heads to heads, Sod only took 1 set.
But i think Sod is a very live dog; Fed barely, barely scrapped home.

Simply because I was confident in Soderling today, I had also played a unit on him to win the whole thing at +550. Was hoping to hedge some off, but that line is going to make it tough.

Damn....now I'm realizing I didn't think that one through very well last night. Wish I was holding Fed +650  like our fine resident handicapper, kickserv. I'd be in great shape then.

Hmmm, going to have to think about this one for awhile. Any suggestions from fellow MJ'ers?

Good idea, crow. Thanks for your input. I was definitely planning on taking a look at those exact set win lines.

A lot of their matches went to tie breaks, but the 2 on clay weren't that close with Fed winning clearly.

I think that altough Soderling is playing his best tennis ever,he doesn't have the lift of Nadal or Del Potro on his shots, so Fed should be able to better steer the ball.

Stylistically he's advantaged.

On another note, Nadal scratched from Queens , his knees still bothering him.
Doesn't look good.

Just a quick note.....I just looked at the odds for Soderling to win the French. At a non-sponsor (Aussy Book) 1 day before the tourney started you could have had Soderling at 1000-1 :scared :scared

Sure there is somebody out there that has that wager. Too bad Fed is going to win, but man 1000-1, that would be a nice payday:scared
