David Price changed the script and tossed six dominant scoreless innings to win his first game as a starter in the postseason and send the Red Sox into the World Series with a 4-1 victory over the Astros. The Red Sox swept all three games in Houston, the 108-win team knocking off the 103-win team in the clash of titans

1993 The Dodgers trade future Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez to the Expos for second baseman Delino DeShields, who will hit .241 during his three seasons with Los Angeles. The 21 year-old Dominican right-hander will win 55 of 88 decisions in his four-year tenure with Montreal, before being dealt to Boston before the 1998 campaign.

Clayton Kershaw had been favored in 199 consecutive starts -- the longest active streak in MLB (including playoffs). Tonight is the first time he is an underdog since July of 2012. #WorldSeries

1972 Jackie Robinson, weakened by complications of heart disease and diabetes, dies of a heart attack in his home in North Stamford, Connecticut. The 53 year-old nearly blind baseball pioneer and social activist's death comes nine days after his appearance at the World Series, where he threw the ceremonial first pitch before Game 2 at Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium.

2000 Roger Clemens is fined a reported $50,000 for throwing the jagged barrel of a shattered bat in the direction of Met catcher Mike Piazza in the first inning of Game 2 of the World Series. Yankee manager Joe Torre and the right-hander both deny the incident was intentional.

The longest game in World Series history lasted 18 innings and 7 hours, 20 minutes and Max Muncy -- who nearly won the game with a home run in his previous at-bat -- saved the Dodgers season with the walk-off home run off Nathan Eovaldi. One for the history books, my friends.

2007 In an interview aired on MSNBC, Barry Bonds said he is prepared to boycott his induction, when elected, into the Hall of Fame if the museum accepts the ball he hit for his record-breaking 756th career home run marked with a permanent asterisk. Fashion designer Marc Ecko, who bought the historic sphere for $752,467, released the results of an internet poll he conducted on www.vote756.com, in which nearly half the fans (47%) voted in favor of sending it to Cooperstown after branding the ball.

2002 Randy Johnson wins his fifth Cy Young Award, the fourth consecutive with the Diamondbacks. The 39 year-old southpaw, with 24 victories, 334 strikeouts, and a 2.32 ERA, becomes the first National League hurler since Dwight Gooden in 1985 to win the pitching equivalent of the triple crown.

Sportswriters can be so petty. The very idea of leaving The Big Unit off your ballot is absurd.

"I can no longer produce for my ballclub, my manager, my teammates, and my fans the sort of baseball their loyalty to me deserves." - Joe DiMaggio

At the Yankees' Fifth Avenue suite in the Squibb Tower, a tearful Joe DiMaggio, two weeks after his 37th birthday, announces to the press his decision to retire from baseball. The Bronx Bomber outfielder, claiming he "no longer has it" due to age and injuries, ends his thirteen-year career with a lifetime .325 BA and 361 home runs, rejecting owner Dan Topping's $100,000 offer to play next season.

One day after losing their season-opening series to the Baltimore Orioles, the Yankees announced Monday that they are putting outfielder Giancarlo Stanton on the 10-day injured list with a left biceps strain. He's the third Yankees outfielder to go on the injured list this young season, joining Aaron Hicks (lower back) and Jacoby Ellsbury (hip/plantar fasciitis).

"Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio, A nation turns its lonely eyes to you (Woo, woo, woo), What's that you say, Mrs. Robinson Joltin' Joe has left and gone away, (Hey, hey, hey...hey, hey, hey)." - PAUL SIMON, song writer.

1970
On the Dick Cavett Show, Paul Simon tells Mickey Mantle the lyrics to Mrs. Robinson would have been 'Where have you gone, Mickey Mantle' but explains to his favorite player, "it's about syllables, Mick. It's about how many beats there are." The songwriter's well-known lyrics becomes, "Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio, A nation turns its lonely eyes to you. <1pop culture>
