"It's a tough situation for us. A lot of the visiting teams come in and wonder where are all the fans. It's actually a little bit embarrassing for us. We're one game away from clinching a postseason spot." - EVAN LONGORIA,Rays third baseman commenting on team's low attendance.

With an opportunity to see their team clinch a postseason berth, only 12,446 fans attend the Rays game against Baltimore at Tropicana Field. The club, inspired by third baseman Evan Longoria's criticism of the low attendance figures, will make 20,000 free tickets available in the finale of the series in an effort get more 'energy' into the domed ballpark.

It's 2018 and the TB area still doesn't support the team
Attendance: 1,104,029 (15th of 15) thru yesterday

11, 325 to see the Yankees yesterday

42,735 for baseball.....day 4 of this season 14,256 showed up

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts: "From the first pitch on, our guys were convicted today." He said tomorrow's tiebreaker, at 1 pm PT on ESPN, is "not do or die, but obviously it's a must-win game. To win the game and to get a couple days off, and to host a Division Series, is very important."

Dan Mullen
ESPN.com

Sometimes baseball works out perfectly, and Sunday was one of those days. With the NL West and Central still up for grabs after 162 games, it'll be a tiebreaker Monday doubleheader of division-deciding showdowns with both games on ESPN: Brewers-Cubs starts at 1:05 p.m. ET followed by a 4:09 ET Rockies-Dodgers clash.

1989 Ending a 43-year relationship with Major League Baseball, NBC airs its final regular season Game of the Week. The contest, which features the Blue Jays clinching the AL East title with a 4-3 victory over the Orioles at the SkyDome, is the 981st broadcast of a weekly tradition which began in 1947.

1999 The largest regular-season crowd in Candlestick Park history, 61,389 fans, watches the Dodgers beat the home team, 9-4 in the last baseball game to ever be played at the 'Point'. Giant greats help mark the occasion with Juan Marichal tossing out the ceremonial first pitch before the game and Willie Mays throwing out the ballpark's final pitch after the game.

got to see a lot of great players at Candlestick ..Milk carton coupon and buck to get in as I remember might have been 50 cent ..right field bleachers the chain link fence..1966 nearly had a McCovey HR but dropped it and ended up in the pile w/scuffed knees and no HR ball.

1964The smallest reported crowd ever to attend a game at Fenway Park watches the Red Sox, en route to their sixth consecutive losing season, beat Cleveland, 4-2, to snap a six-game slide. The crowd of 306 paid patrons is less than half of the previous low at the Boston ballpark when only 674 fans showed up for a game against Kansas City last season.

oh those loyal Bostonians...........:0003

but they come thru in the clutch

1983"He is Sinatra singing in a small smoky room. He is Picasso with a bat. He is age and time blended into the mellow autumn of his athletic years to the point where his presence alone is an inspiration to a team. He is No. 8. The Captain." - MIKE BARNICLE,Boston Globe columnist commenting on Carl Yastrzemski tenure with the Red Sox.

A sellout crowd gathers on a rainy afternoon at Fenway Park to pay tribute to Carl Yastrzemski, who has spent 23 years in a Red Sox uniform, after having the inevitable task in 1961 of replacing Hall of Fame legend Ted William. The team and fans honor the Captain, with Yaz Day, giving the 44 year-old, who will finish his career with over 3,000 hits and over 400 home runs, an opportunity to say farewell to his admirers.

I watched Yaz play his last game...his last AB was like watching a U.S. President step down after 3 successful terms .

1963In Game 4, Mickey Mantle ties Babe Ruth's record with his 15th World Series home run. The Yankees slugger turns around a Sandy Koufax fastball in the seventh inning to tie the score, but the blast isn't enough to stave off the Dodgers' Fall Classic sweep of the Bronx Bombers.

I'm 12 turning 13 on the 25th of Oct and my rival at the Boys Club tells me his Yankees will beat my Dodgers in the World Series. No I say and Just like I beat you at everything at "The Club" a Quarter says the Dodgers pitching sweeps the Yanks.

First bet I ever made............My granddaddy taught me a lot about pitching.

For the second consecutive day, the Orioles win a World Series game, 1-0, in a contest decided by a home run when Frank Robinson takes a Don Drysdale pitch deep over the left field fence in the fourth inning. With the lone run scored on a homer, for only the fifth time in the history of the Fall Classic, and the complete-game shutout thrown by Dave McNally, Baltimore completes a four-game sweep over the Dodgers.

a soon to be 16 years old is mad at the world

the O's beat Drysdale twice,Koufax and Osteen once.

Koufax didn't start game one cuz he had to pitch the last game of the regular season to win the pennant

The day before the Orioles won 1-0 on a complete game shutout by Wally Bunker and the lone deciding run was a home run by Paul Blair.

The Dodgers scored 2 runs in the whole series and were shutout from the 3rd inning of Game 1 for the rest of the World Series.

love baseball then go back in time ........

1978 Rookie right-hander Bob Welch strikes out Reggie Jackson with two men on base and two out in the top of the ninth inning, dramatically preserving a 4-3 Dodger victory over the Yankees in Game 2 of the Fall Classic. The relief performance will put the 21 year-old in the national spotlight

According to ESPN Stats & Info, Brandon Woodruff became the third relief pitcher to hit a home run in postseason history. The others: Travis Wood (Game 2 of 2016 NLDS) and Rosy Ryan (Game 3 of 1924 World Series).

1970 Brooks Robinson is selected as the World Series Most Valuable Player after batting .429 (9/21) and driving in six runs during the five-game set against Cincinnati. The Orioles' third baseman becomes the first player to be named the MVP in the Fall Classic, an All-Star game (1966), and for his league (AL-1964).

1910 American League president Ban Johnson declares Tigers' outfielder Ty Cobb the league's batting champ after questioning Nap Lajoie's suspicious multi-hit performance in a season-ending doubleheader against the Browns. With the Georgia Peach sitting out the last two games of the season, hoping to hold onto his thin lead, the Cleveland second baseman, with the St. Louis shortstop playing deeper than usual, collected eight hits, six of which were bunts.

1989As the Giants and A's get ready to play Game 3 of the World Series, the Bay Area is hit by the massive 6.9-magnitude Loma Prieta earthquake, which will be responsible for 63 deaths. The Candlestick Park contest is quickly postponed by Commissioner Fay Vincent, and he wisely orders the evacuation of the ballpark.

This is one of those things that many people remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when it happened. I was watching the game at my sister's house drinking a Mickey. Imagine me drinking a Mickey 29 years ago. :scared
