ok, I am not afraid, partly because I am doing worse than all of you! I will start the US thread...
Do we subscribe to the living in Florida or being Australian for this tournament? Sounds good, but I cannot find a player...
Was looking at Price, Couples or Norman, but wonder if am living in past.

Echo your thoughts Steved... Norman is available at 100/1 and then there is Faldo at 25/1 in Malaysia... thought I must be in a time warp... decided that if this is the best I can do, this is looking like a no outright bets week... will peruse the in-running after 2 rounds instead.
Glad you had the bottle to start the thread... make sure your stakes are small this week :)

No outright bets, Bmad?! Surely not!

Well, we've done well when in agreement, and my first bet in anger this week was the aforementioned Mr Norman at 100/1 with 365...he didn't look too rusty in Aus earlier in the year.

Clive,
Stop trying to tempt me... last night I logged onto 365 and went to the deposit page.. to take some 100 but just felt too silly...
he has 2 recent top 6's... but you only get paid for top 5's. I refuse to bet.... I have the willpower... no bet.

i will tell you what, I will back him, so all of you who miss out are safe...
or, I have just asked Betfair to add him to their list, which although it sticks out a bit when someone is added, will give us all a chance to back him at good prices and then lay off at less, once momentum builds up..
sorry for sounding cynical, but this method has been my biggest winner this year..especially on Els, only came unstuck once...

I have no problem starting threads - I can't get any worse on the PGA Tour ;)

Course: Doral Golf Resort and Spa, Miami, Florida
Yardage: 7125
Par: 72 (four par-fives)
USGA Rating: 74.5
Greens: Tifdwarf Bermudagrass - 6,500 sq.ft (Tour average: 6,000 sq.ft)

GCSAA Tournament Fact Sheet

Weather Forecast

Best Players Last 10 Years

Past Winners:
2001 - Joe Durant
2000 - Jim Furyk
1999 - Steve Elkington
1998 - Michael Bradley
1997 - Steve Elkington
1996 - Greg Norman
1995 - Nick Faldo
1994 - John Huston
1993 - Greg Norman
1992 - Ray Floyd

=====================

Outright plays:

Vijay Singh to win 22/1 e.w. @ Bet365
His odds are now starting to reflect his near-two year winless run on the PGA Tour and so at 20/1 and above, if he simply places rather than wins, at least he will cover the other outlay on the other two outright plays if they lose. As ever, he has contended this year without winning, but the move to a course on which he has a good record should be beneficial. He has played here every year since 1994 and finished in the top-4 on three occasions in the last six years. Looking for a repeat rather than expecting a win.

Charles Howell to win 28/1 e.w. @ Bet247
No course experience and this is a concern around the Blue Monster, but he is simply good enough to win this event without local knowledge. Has been in good form all year and was unlucky to lose to Garcia last week. It will be a surprise if he is not in contention on Sunday.

Paul Azinger to win 66/1 e.w. @ Bet365, Bet247, Heathorns or Blue Square
Finishes of 28th, 52nd and 50th in his three strokeplay events this season doe not inspire confidence, but he was impressive last week and had two runners-up spots in this event in the 1990s. This price is simply too large for me to ignore.

Initial Thoughts. Toms 25/1 seems like a stong pick. Not only a good start to the year but solid course form and fits the mold for the type of winner that generally emerges from Doral. He aslo seems to play his best golf in a tough field.

Funk 66/1 and Sabbatini 50/1. 2 of the hottest golfers on tour. Not sure how they'll fair against strong oppostion this week however. Sabbatini's game really looks like it's coming round and could be turning him into one of the top players.

Tway 80/1. Off the back of 15-6 finishes and only outside the t-15 once in the last 5 years at Doral. I think there may be some value in the place finish.

Others: Weir, DiMarco and Verplank. Again, all good shot makers and solid all-round pros. 25,10 and 19th respectively in all-round ranking thus far on tour and should be expected to make a good run this week.

Any thoughts?

Monarch,
My thoughts on yours...

I would consider Toms for anything.

Not keen on Funk in a good quality field like this.

Sabbatini is playing very well.

Tway has picked up recently and has decent course form ( not good enough for payouts) but I can't see him winning.

Weir can win anything on his day... but how do you know if it's his day?

Dimarco is excellent this year.. but his course form is awful.

Verplank has decent course form and could do it, if he could score well on the last day for a change.

But it's that sort of event.. too many ifs and buts.. keeping my powder dry.

The start of the Florida swing and the tough Blue Monster at Doral. Bermuda greens and plenty of chances to get your ball wet.

A good field and a tough course, hopefully the cream will rise to the top and we do not get a Durant surprise.

I like Dimarco, Toms and Singh but 25's is a shade too short for me in this event; in Dimarco's case I'm not sure he will hold up on Sunday down the stretch on this course despite his excellent early form.

Verplank is another but as has been alluded to before I just do not see him finishing the job . Will certainly keep him in mind for early 3 balls.

At present I'm on Mike Weir 40/1 (WillHill) and Jim Furyk 33/1 (Ladbrokes).

Had earmarked Cink for this event but he has yet to show up this season so he'll be passed up.

Am also considering Greg Chalmers and Dudley Hart both at 125/1 (Blue Square).

Good Luck,

Rio.

Coral/Eurobet have pushed Singh out to 25/1 at which price he starts to interest me.

That a dozen or so players have already been mentioned and most have something to recommend them indicates how tricky this event looks. I'll throw a few more names into the pot.

John Huston could be on the way back and always comes alive in Florida. Greg Kraft showed a bit last week, was second here in 1999 and has other form on Bermuda grass and I'll be having a good look at his matches and those of Jay Haas. who I think will go well without winning.

By the way, as a new poster I hope you'll be gentle with me when this lot miss the cut!

One early outright 1 unit total e/w @ Bet365 may add a couple place only @ oly later.

Love 25/1

Think were going to see a big trasformation with them hitting bermuda greens in Fla.Some big boys Tiger,Duval,Love,Furyk and a couple others have remained in top 25 in ball striking only to have terrible putting stats I deem mostly due to poana greens which brings ave putters like kenny, funk ect into the mix.
Love course form not to bad with a 6th and 7th in only appearaces here in last 5 years.
He's been whining in several interviews of late that he feels well, hitting it great and can't wait to get back to Fla and bermuda greens. Will give him a look.

Howdy Steve. i have Haas highlighted as well for match bets and may take a look at place only wager as I see Oly has him in their rotation.

David Toms is sure to be popular took 28 with UK yesterday, 25 still available

Is FURYK still getting dizzy? Buch Harmon mentioned last week that Furyk had sought medical help due to persistent dizzy spells every time he lay down. This doesn't sound to healthy to me, was just wondering if anyone had heard anything else?

a few 72 holes
@cascade
Haas -110 over Ames
Howell +110 over Garcia
Love +115 over Duval
@WSEX
Toms +110 over Garcia

Three of these are bush on the brain plays.Hope Duvals Ex calls again, might get another wd.
Hope Sergio's beau shows up in gallery again.Believe golf has dropped in priorites. Welcome to the fast lane.

From Miami Herald

"Even Garc?a's social life seems on the fast track, linked of late with Swiss tennis star Martina Hingis. The two have been seen together with increasing frequency since meeting at an Adidas function during last month's Australian Open.

A Spanish sports periodical recently ran a photo of the couple in a blue Ferrari, reportedly near Garc?a's hometown of Borriol, Spain. Last week, Hingis stood out in the gallery following Garc?a in the Match Play Championship at Carlsbad, Calif"

----and what a coincidence Tiger and Omeara paired again?Tiger,Duval and Omeara slipped off by themselves late yesterday for practice rd. Wonder if they couldn't find a 4th?

72-hole plays:

Paul Azinger to beat John Huston -110 @ Surrey
Continuing my leap of faith with Azinger this week. Huston only finished 46th last week in the weak Tucson Open and though he is regarded as a Florida specialist, he has secured only one top-30 finish on this course in the last five years.

Vijay Singh to beat Ernie Els +110 @ TattsBet
Just find +110 too attractive a price to ignore. Apart from the Matchplay last week, this is Els' first event on the PGA Tour this season and while he should feature I do favor Vijay to have the stronger week.

playing a couple 1st rounders

Singh +130 over Tiger @ 5dimes
Its always hard to pull trigger vs Tiger but going against him 1st 2 rds has been profitable past 2 years.Singh averaging a whooping 2+ strokes better than Tiger prior to cut.

Will also play a 3ball selection as a regular match play.
Sutton @ +120 vs Cook and Scherrer @ Bet365

Only match I could find involving Sutton at my outs.
Been playing against his form (4 straight cuts and 1st rd elimination last week)in prior events this year but he is one Bermuda should have big inpact on. His ball striking has been excellent while in slump. 2nd in driving accuracy(no water) and 16th in GIR only to be let down by horrendous putting.Much like last year where he ave around 40th/event prior to hitting FLA.
In 1st event back (The Genuity) he immediately secured a 3rd and followed with a 5th and 1st in next 4 events. Hoping not as dramatic but similiar results.

Furyk and Sabbatini are n/r's.

I backed Furyk so that leaves me with just Weir.

Am now going to be adding Chalmers 125/1 ( Tote ) and Sluman 100/1 ( Stanley ).

Like two 3-balls tomorrow.

Price Evens at Ladbrokes and Andrade 11/4 with Coral.

Rio.
