That's a nice useful tip Stan, but need to know the probability distribution of your ratings, to know what price is useful too

That is cool though.

Ian...i was thinking the SAME thing. I saw him off to a poor start then had a string of birdies..then he was gone.
Does all action on him still count? It must if he started the tourney.

Stag,

I am almost certain that once the player tees off, all 18 hole and 72 hole action stands on Stankowski. So for those that bet against Stankowski, it looks like a solid start to the week.

I am throwing a few dollars on Aaron Baddeley to win the event after his great 1st round. I really rate this kid (probably more than any other Aussie golfer in recent times), and I have been waiting for him to show some form in the US.

He is a confidence player, and he seems to be very comfortable on a course which is similar to his home course in Australia. Generally when he gets into contention is when you see his best golf. Also slightly aided by a morning tee time tomorrow.

1st round update: 1-3-0 and -5.19 units

Truly awful first day and very easy to blame the secretive lack of rough at the course which transformed its nature. The only winner on day one was Ames who beat Choi by four shots, in the other round 1 plays, Edwards lost to Baddeley by three, Calcavecchia lost to Cink by two and Kendall lost to Stricker by two.

Every 72-hole match bet is losing after 18 holes! Calc trails Cink by two and Hoch by five, Elder trails Ogilvy by three, Edwards trails Baddeley by three and Maruyama trails Baddeley by eight. At least everyone, and Sutton and McCarron in particular, are still in the hunt for outright wins. Might need them again!

2nd round plays:

Brad Elder to beat Jonathan Kaye -115 @ Five Dimes [3 units]
Brad Elder to beat Frank Nobilo -115 @ Five Dimes [2 units]
Chris Perry to beat Dudley Hart -110 @ Five Dimes [3 units]

1-2-3 = Going, Going, Gone

PGA has scores for 153, with 156 scheduled to tee off.

The three missing are: Paul Stankowski, Rick Fehr and Mike Henby.

Here's hoping for a great 2nd round for all of us.

Stan, sure hope you are right on Chris Perry and he gets back in it !!!

Been enroute to Fla and will not have time for 2nd round calculations but should be situated by tomorrow.
briefly on 72 hole standings trailing in 5 out of seven. Will have normal breakdown tomorrow.
Last week despite starting 0-3 I said things were still going as expected. Can't say that this week.1st day results totally defied logic to me.Didn't have any 1st rounders but the ones I favored did not fare well.Back after 2nd round.

UPDATE ON PICKS AFTER FINAL ROUND:

3 winners as Maruyama and Kendall missed cut, and Ames beat Day by 4 on Sunday . Sposa cooled off to a 70, as predicted, but still leads Perry by 4. Day now leads Ames by 1. Funk is having a solid and consistent tournament, but trails the leader Hoch by 7. Current position is win 2 and lose 3.

1. K. Perry 69 69 70 72 [lost]
M. Sposa 68 66 70 68

2. F. Funk 70 70 70 74 [lost]
S. Hoch 68 68 67 69

3. S. Stricker 70 70 72 69 [won]
Maruyama 75 73 [missed cut]

4. Ames 68 70 72 70 [won]
Day 70 71 68 74

5. Stricker 70 70 72 69 [won]
Kendall 72 73 [missed cut]

My 2 cents:

Nice playing by Scott S. and Scott H. the last round, especially Hoch's last nine. Just what you would expect from a veteran who know what was needed to win, and then did it.
No one really stepped up for the "killer" final round, best being a 67 by Quigley and Choi.

Sutherland and Yokoo both shot 71 Sunday, after 65s Saturday. It is always difficult to follow up a hot round with another. Hjertstedt and Browne had nice tornaments. Hoch DID NOT choke.

Thanks for the referral. If you go to the Golf Contest Forum you can click on my name - the 'moderated by Stanley' bit - and send me your email address. I will then send you the info you need.

Cheers and good luck, apart from with Chris Perry!

Belkin - the same thing happened to me the first time I played a golf bet. You probably did what I did - make a match bet thinking it was for a day, when it really is for the entire tournament. Therefore, it is still pending until the very end of the tournament - and even if one of your players does not make the cut !!

Stricker still a good bet, in my opinion...

at the cut 2-4 &1 pending
72 holes
Kendall/Omeara loss by 2
Cink/Hoch loss by 9
McCarron/Kelly tied pending
Kendall/Paulson win by 2
Edwards/Paulson win by 8
Maruyama/Maggert loss by 12
Ogilvy/Baddelby loss by 6

Will take my medicine with picks made and probably have no additions rest of week.
My play on and against list at start of tourny should have been reversed.

2nd round update: 1-1-1 and -0.45 units

Split the plays as Perry shoots 69 to beat Hart by one, but Elder's 71 is two shots too many against Kaye and is only good enough for a tie against Nobilo who birdied two of the last three holes to catch Elder. At the cut, three of the five matchups are decided and they finish 1-1-1. Calcavecchia beat Cink by three, Elder tied with Ogilvy and Maruyama lost to Baddeley by seven. In the remaining two 72-hole plays, Calc trails Hoch by six and Edwards leads Baddeley by two. Certainly an improvement over the 1st day standings!

All three outright plays made the cut, but Calc and Sutton are eight and seven shots out of the lead respectively. More encouraging is McCarron's performance. He lies 8th, three shots out of the lead and an unusually weak-looking leaderboard.

3rd round plays:

Dudley Hart to beat Rich Beem +100 @ WSEX [3 units]
Jerry Kelly to beat Rich Beem -135 @ Moneyplays [2 units]
Fred Funk to beat Steve Elkington -145 @ Five Dimes
Jimmy Green to beat Phil Tataurangi -135 @ Five Dimes
Scott Verplank to beat Frank Nobilo -120 @ Sportfanatik and other Starnet books
Jim Furyk to beat Ted Tryba -175 @ Easybets

Saturday in the GGO. Low cut caught some big names. Today I saw the following which are under consideration.

1. Simpson +125 over Sposa. Veteran getting a nice price vs. youngster not used to being in the lead. I feel a 75 coming on...

2. Berganio [-145] vs. Urestio

3. Olin Browne [-115] vs. Joey Sindelar. Joey is a veteran who just tries to make cuts, which he has now done. Week-ends are not his friends...and history indicates he will finish in the middle of the pack with a couple of par or +1 rounds ... BEST BET

4. Elkington [+115] vs. Funk. Simply a play on ELKS round yesterday. He may be coming into form....and has a nice price.

LEAN: SPIKE McRoy [-115] over C. Kanada. Anyone who cant spell right cant beat the Spikester
smile.gif

RECAP of SATURDAYS MATCHES: [2-2]

1. Simpson/Sposa tied, each shooting 70
2. Berganio beat Uresti 68-73
3. Browne beat Sindelar 69-70
4. Elk lost to Funk 73 -70

and the Spikester lost his arse....

3rd round update: 3-2-1 and +1.45 units

Profitable day, but Hart's missed 4-foot putt on the last was costly. It meant he only tied with Beem, though Kelly did have a three-shot victory over the Texab. There were wins for Funk and Furyk by three and seven shots respectively. However, Green lost by four and Verplank lost by two to make a profitable week appear rather elusive. That was not helped by a marked deterioration in the two 72-hole and outright plays. Calc fell to eight shots behind Hoch and Edwards lost his lead over Baddeley; he now trails by five, while there is very little prospect of a return from the outrights in this tournament.
