We're sorry, the mid-summer lull until football season starts gets to most of us.....fyi, did you know I hit over 84.7% of my over plays in the NFL/CFL during the 2016/17 season....even Thunder calls me for my free plays, but obviously not enough ......

I had one great basketball season... otherwise tend to like to stay on the side of less risk. :0008

Not having needed to be in the job maret for a very long time i can only mention what i have observed. If instead of getting a raise you get fired how likely are you to find similar employment at a comparable salary. How old are you? Can a recent college grad do what u do. Are u bilingual. Do u speak a foreign language fluently. German Spanish Chinese......Arabic......My gut tells me you shd be happy where u are don't rock the boat about a raise. I have seen some
people end up in their cars but some in IT buy their first million $$ home in their 30's... The line of applicants for almost any job these days is in the hundreds if not thousands . Go to some over 40 job fairs and see what misery can be. People that are employed in good situations do not realize how blessed they are and how one "Pink Slip' could end life as they know it >>>>>forever. Hope u got Arizona Cardinals early tonight !!!.

1 - I wouldn't be thinking about a raise if I ever thought my job would be on the line.
2- I'm in charge of my department, but like I mentioned before, my role has greatly expanded/changed since I was hired. What I do now 100% is not what I signed the contract for(not complaining either). Reason being is they showed faith in me and I really do work my ass off.

It's always smart to outline your value add and contributions in a document and end with an increase request at your review. Also, printing out comparable salaries in the same area goes a long way for approval up the chain. If the average salary is 100k and youre at 85k, it will eliminate pressures as it makes sense to bring you to a competitive salary based on demographic. I would prepare this as your review comes in December. Having Director experience in previous job, it was usually a month out before I started notating the annual review documentation. Your supervisor should give you an "in" for this. Doing so prior to your invitation for discussion could be seen as baiting your supervisor and do more harm than good. Also, always follow chain of command going to boss prior to HR. Other wise the back office conversations will leave a bad perception on you in company whether you know it or not.

Hope that helps and good luck.

That being stated, if you feel there is a promotion opportunity in your department right now, challenge your boss by asking for the opportunity to show you can handle the role now over the next 90 days and take the promotion on your review.

FYI, company's allocate next year budget in October. So even if you are doing great now, hands could be tied until the new year.

Thanks for the time and opinion Woodson. I have a very unique job that I'm not really sure I could take the based on demographic approach. Most comparable would be my boss who trained me and I took over his role, but he is based out of Manhattan so there's a cost of living difference factor there. The 2 guys above me are my boss and the VP of the company and would certainly go to bat for me. It's a matter of CFO, who's based out of Manhattan as well.

I do like your suggestion of pointing out value and contributions. Time to get that penned up!

I have a # that I would be extremely happy with, and was thinking in December when they gave me a yearly raise I would ask for the remaining difference that got me to that #.

I'm kind of in a parculuar situation at work. Company takes great care of me. I've worked there for less than 2 years and in that time I've gotten 15% in raises(within first 13months). However, my roll has significantly changed since I was hired(for the better). More so after about 8months in.

I'm saddled with a lot of responsibility and management duties. I'm happy with what I make, but feel like I deserve a raise if that makes any sense? And I believe you should never be content.

Have you guys ever asked for a raise when you loved your job but just simply felt like you deserved a raise? (And not because you felt you were underpaid). This has been bobbling in my head for a few weeks now, and with our "yearly raise" review coming in December, I was contemplating if I should wait until then and see what they're giving me and ask for more. Or ask for more now. And most importantly....how do I ask?

Setup a meeting with your boss and the VP. Lay out your value. Get them on board with your idea. Then go for it ! The CFO will come to them for confirmation. You're not getting fired for asking for a raise (you truly add value and are worth the extra $).

Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
Hope your December idea pans out...

Think I would make sure beforehand that the bossman got a box of decent stogies or premium liquor and a hand written christmas card or better yet for his birthday...never hurts to get a little brown on the nose before asking for money...

My boss buys/sells high end Bourbon. If I bribed him with 1 I would have a lot more confidence asking for a raise.....cuz I'll need it :mj07:

I wish I had the answer for you. Back when I fist started out on my career I joined a young company that grew very fast. My role changed. I had people working me, that I had to train. Etc etc. Nothing left the building without my signature.

This was all great but when I asked for a raise I tool things too personal when they said no.

Just a warning. Don't take it personal if they turn you down. Give them the benefit of the doubt and you will be a much happier person and will most likely get your reward down the line. And if you don't look for someplace else to go.

Not really a bribe, just a personal gesture....

Years ago we had a new supervisor who was kind of an unknown...we invited him to an office poker game, he loosened up a little.

I noticed his drink of choice was Jack Daniels.

Upon his birthday, I suggested we pitch in and get a bottle of the best Jack Daniels, think it was green label at the time.

The poker games continued, he found out we were golfers, we would go once a week to a public par 3 after work, leave at 5pm, the course would always be crowded.

He suggested if we left early we could beat the 5pm crowds....if it was slow, he would let us leave at 4,no loss of pay. (no flex time in the mid 70's).

That bottle of hooch paid dividends and created a very good understanding supervisor.
