To achieve success in a hunt you must kill. It is the 'sports' end game. When hunting you are attempting to cause death, hence kill. The equation is a simple as it gets really.

How and the hell can you say you can not equate hunting & killing. You can not have hunting w/o killing. Killing can not be seperated from hunting. They are undeniably linked.

I know you are a lot smarter than that 6'5

Hunting:

1. the pursuit and killing or capture of wild animals regarded as a sport

3. the work of finding and killing or capturing animals for food or pelts

Trust me. It is very simple to equate hunting & killing & I do get it. There is no such thing as hunting w/o KILLING or CAPTURE.

Killing is the very essence of hunting.

I was at a bar last night watching the WVa/Louis game and this good old boy was in there telling stories. He said he is 84 years old now and he could remember going hunting as a kid in the early 40s, when there were only 350 deer in the whole state of Missouri.

He said it was a big event to even see one deer when they went out hunting back then. Deer sighting news would go around town and it was a big deal, like they spotted Bigfoot or something.

Now there are 1,000,000+ deer in Missouri.

I did make a really cool tofu turkey a few years ago for thanksgiving. Made the stuffing and then mashed tofu all around it, pasted it with gravy and brushed it every hour - baked for a few hours...man that was good! Think I'll make another one this year :SIB

That wasn't very funny. I personally take offense to you making fun of the seaweed. There should be affirmative action for seaweed - it is very discriminated against.

Before that, though, the buck gave the brother bears, who will turn 3 this month, quite the tussle, zoo officials said. As zoo patrons watched, the deer kept the curious bears at bay with head butts and hooves, forcing them to back off when they came near their unusual visitor, said Dr. Barbara Baker, president and CEO of the Pittsburgh Zoo. The whole ordeal only lasted a few minutes and was caught on the camera that shows a live feed from the polar bear exhibit.

"The young bears didn't know what to do . . . and the deer was an aggressive animal," she said, adding the situation probably would have ended differently with older bears. "They're very inquisitive and very curious," she said of the young bears, "but they don't have that killing instinct."

We have to teach that killing instinct to our young uns also. Got to start them early.

see, this is where you are wrong. There's lots of times I have successful hunts and never kill anything. That's what I'm trying to tell you, but you and Scott don't get it. I could have killed dozens of deer in the last 10 years legally. I've killed 2 and both of those were at the request of friends. Does that mean I suck as a hunter? Maybe to you it does, but not to me.

Good points. Have heard the same thing myself, not for Missouri, but have heard that there were very few deer around in the Great Depression, that a sighting would make the newspaper, and also have read that there are far more deer around today than there were when the first Europeans came to North America.

We've removed most of their natural predators, so it's no surprise populations have expanded. Deer are all over the roads where I live, there are many run-ins with cars. Deer are an animal that actually seems to do better with humans around. Deer love the suburbs! If hunters didn't thin out their herds, there would be even more problems.

There will always be some sadists and criminals, but I'd guess hunters are, on the whole, freer of these types than general society.

Holy shit! 24? Christ......I woulda thought you were maybe 10-12!

How many times did ol grand dad call you the biggest pussy in the family tree?

Preparing for deer camp must have been hard on you, Scoots:

Gramps: Okay, boys...gather 'round. I'ma gonna shows ya'll how to dress a deer. Scott, why don't you head up to the house, and grammy will show you how to hem a DRESS!

You know what, Scott? I quit hunting after my first kill, too. I was never really into it, and that sealed the deal. Plus, I think the meat tastes like shit. (I love the heart fried in butter, though!)

Nobody made me feel like less of a boy for it, though. They let me quit, and that was that. In turn, I never struggled with why other guys could kill deer, and I couldn't. I guess I figured it wasn't anything to get bothered about. So, since I never felt like less of a man for not being a hunter, I never had to try to bring hunters down in an attempt to bring my "manhood" back up.

I fully understand if someone doesn't wish to kill an animal for whatever reason. I don't need to understand why a man wishes to hunt. Either group is fine with me.
