US surpasses record 55,000 new cases of coronavirus

https://thehill.com/homenews/news/5...0-new-cases-of-coronavirus-hitting-new-record

BY MARTY JOHNSON - 07/03/20 07:52 AM EDT

The U.S. on Thursday set a record for daily new COVID-19 cases with 55,220, surpassing Wednesday's record mark of 52,789.

The record numbers are due to the significant spikes in cases across the country, as many states have been setting and breaking records of their own over the past two weeks.

Florida, which broke its record for new cases over the weekend, set a new record on Thursday with 10,109 more coronavirus cases. Georgia also set a new record for cases on Thursday with 3,472.

Both Florida and Georgia were some of the first states to begin reopening their economies earlier this year following shutdowns aimed at curbing the spread of the virus.

In Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott (R) issued an order Thursday making it mandatory for everyone in Texas to wear a face covering of some kind while out in public.

Texans will now be fined $250 if they refuse to wear a mask after being warned by law enforcement. The Lone Star State broke its record for daily coronavirus cases on Wednesday with 8,076, and reported an additional 7,915 on Thursday.

Abbott and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) both took steps to close bars late last week in an attempt to stem the rising number of cases.

Ohio and Arizona also reported new record highs in cases on Wednesday.

The U.S. overall now has more than 2.7 million confirmed cases of the disease and more than 128,000 deaths.

For nearly six months the administration offered a series of predictions and pronouncements that never came to fruition. From Trump promising that "the problem goes away in April" and predicting "packed churches all over our country" on Easter Sunday to Vice President Mike Pence's claim that "by Memorial Day weekend we will have this coronavirus epidemic behind us" to Jared Kushner's pronouncement the country would be "really rocking again" by July because Americans were "on the other side of the medical aspect of this."

This all followed the White House's initial message in January that the virus wasn't a threat at all. Asked if he was worried about a pandemic, Trump said at the time, "It's one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It's going to be just fine."

The message then morphed to the idea that the virus would be swiftly crushed by a robust federal response. "WE WILL WIN THIS WAR," Trump tweeted in March.

Soon after, the president demanded governors open up their states and said he had the authority to force them to do so. "LIBERATE MICHIGAN!" and "LIBERATE MINNESOTA!" and "LIBERATE VIRGINIA," he wrote on Twitter in April. Within days he decided to shift responsibility for the pandemic to the governors, saying, "The federal government will be watching them very closely and will be there to help in many different ways."

In recent weeks, the message has been that the country is back, face coverings and social distancing are optional, even as the number of coronavirus cases across the country surged.

"We have to get back to business. We have to get back to living our lives. Can't do this any longer," Trump said in an interview with Axios last month before his campaign rally in Tulsa, where almost no one socially distanced and few wore masks. "And I do believe it's safe. I do believe it's very safe." A number of Trump?s own campaign staffers and Secret Service agents contracted COVID-19 in Tulsa.

Eager to move forward and reopen the economy amid a recession and a looming presidential election, the White House is now pushing acceptance.

"The virus is with us, but we need to live with it," is how one official said the administration plans to message on the pandemic.

How weak can you be if you can't comply with simple measures to keep yourself, your family, and your fellow citizens safe? The arrogance and selfishness of the irresponsible will continue to drag this shit out.....and their the ones telling us we're a nation of pussies. The real pussies are the ones that can't manage small sacrifices.

Dr. David B. Samadi is a urologist. Urologists focus on urinary tract diseases and male reproductive organs. Not quite the same expertise as epidemiologists. But yeah, let's listen to this guy instead of all the experts instead! lol

What's that saying that they love to scream out - "Stay in your lane?" HAHA!

Peace! :)

Typical Trump: Get your pandemic advise from a Piss Doc.

Of course Trump can probably use his services. Maybe he can prescribe Trump some Viagra, or at least a wearable dildo, and some rubber testicle implants.

That way Donnie Limpdick might actually feel like a man.

California coronavirus cases surge more than 10,000 in single day
Jane Wardell
3 MIN READ

(Reuters) - California reported more than 10,000 coronavirus cases on Tuesday, a record rise for a single day that also surpassed the number of contact tracers recently trained by the state to detect and prevent potential outbreaks.

California is one of several U.S. states that have reported surging numbers of new COVID-19 infections over the past week, raising questions about how U.S. President Donald Trump has handled the crisis and impeding state plans to lift lockdowns.

The 10,201 new cases reported on Tuesday took the total number of cases in California since the start of the pandemic to nearly 284,000. In June, California infections more than doubled with over 117,000 new cases.

The daily increase exceeds the 10,000 contact tracers Governor Gavin Newsom announced in mid-May, when case numbers were waning, as part of plans to reopen the state.

Newsom said then that more than 500 people had already been trained to work as ?disease detectives?, using state databases to trace and advise people who had been in contact with confirmed cases.

However, instead of further reopening the state economy, Newsom last week rolled back those efforts, banning indoor restaurant dining in much of the state, closing bars and stepping up enforcement of social distancing. Indoor activities at restaurants, movie theaters, museums and other facilities were banned in 19 counties where 70% of the population lives for at least three weeks.

Only three other U.S. states have reported more than 10,000 cases in a day. Florida reported 11,458 new cases on July 4 and Texas reported 10,028 on Tuesday.

New York recorded 12,847 new infections on April 10, three weeks after the state implemented a strict lockdown that closed most businesses. Once the epicenter of the U.S. epidemic, New York saw cases rise by about 6% in June - the lowest rate in the entire country.
