But jack isnt as fat or annoying as Raymer. Amazing that the last 3 WS Champs might be the 3 worst poker players i have ever seen.

you are dead right on 2 of them and dead wrong on one

varkonyi and moneymaker are jokes. complete and utter luckboxes. they got lucky, got their money and will never win anything again. disagree 100 % about Raymer. Not only is he a good guy, but a really good player. Yeah, his glasses are stupid and he might come off as a dork, but he is a really good player. he makes a lot in the sidegames as well in the last 2 years. although a lawyer before going full-time after last years win, he was regularly beating some pretty big games up in foxwoods and has continued to do so.
Raymer is a good player and will continue to be one. varkonyi and moneymaker are jokes

Raymer may not be a bad player, he may be a good player, but he was more than lucky. The glasses are an absolute joke. My thing is listening to him now he acts quite arrogant, as if he is the second coming of Doyle Brunson and Stu Ungar rolled into one, trying to convince us how brilliant his strategy was on any particular hand and so forth, when in fact he simply won about 20 races in a row.

I would add I know Moneymaker finished 2nd or 3rd in some WPT event so at least he did something else. Varkonyi disappeare dforever, and other than his commercials I havent seen Raymer do much. I will add this though - if Raymer is a good player explain to me him losing out in the ESPN $2 million winner take all. Those hands that were his undoing my wife wouldnt play like that.

As the saying goes "You have to be good to be lucky, and you have to be lucky to be good". In a field this big I think it's inevitable the eventual champ will have caught many breaks along the way. Once you cut out the weakest players from the running, you're still left with a ton of players who are all essentially equal in ability and know the game inside out. And luck is the only remaining variable at that point.

agree with what gm said, regardless of how good anybody is in a tourney of over 5k entrants luck is going to play the biggest role. and yes raymer got lucky along the way.

sun-
he has gotten arrogant, although i'm not sure any of us wouldn't if we one the big one. he might not even be likeable for those who don't know him. he is a cash game player and i can't stress the differences enough in tournaments and cash games. im sure he was more surprised when anyone when he won it, but he played aggressive which you have to do when you are the big stack which he was the last few days of it.sure he got lucky last year. so did ungar, so did all the other ones that won it at some point.

as for the 2 million winner take all on espn. its exactly that. and regardless of what tv said or anything, players had stakes of each other and such, so no one was walking away empty handed. the only way to play a winner take all is to go for it all. you take chances and try and build up a big stack which means playing unconventional hands. helmuth played like they were paying for how high you finished which wasn't the case since he got zero for 2nd (even though he was part of the deal). that tournament format is dumb because it makes players play hands and in spots hoping to get lucky and double up to get the lead. grinding poker to finish high in the money doesn't work in that format especially with the quickly rising blind format.

........................................................

I was playing blackjack at Ceasars Palace. I was playing in the last seat and I was making the last call on the table and I was busting the dealer left and right. Everyone was happy. I was up about 1500 and I started with 100 bucks.

This lady sits down in the third chair. She really didn't look like she had much money. She plays what looks like all the money she has and she sits there with a sly smile on her face.

The dealer deals the cards out and she draws a nine and a jack. She looks pleased. The table is ful.l I draw a 8 of spades and and a 4. So I am sitting on 12.

Dealer is showing a King.

I got about 150 bucks at risk.

The play goes around quickly and he stops and waits as the old woman looks at 19. She hesitates what seems like a eternity thinking about her decision.

So after all that she looks the dealer in the eyes and says.... Hit me....

He says... mam you got a 19. I am showing a King.
Maybe its best you don't. You know trying to help the lady out.

She says "Hit me"

The dealer looks around kinda stunned and says are you sure mam ?

She says again... HIT ME DAMIT.

So the dealer throws down a card out of the 6 stack deck. He throws it down hard with a payback in mind.

The card is a two.

I didn't finish the story . So the pit boss hears all the commotion and asks the dealer what happened. The dealer explains it to him.
He then comps the lady dinner and paid for that night room.

GO JACK GO !
