I live in Alberta and lived/ worked in Banff for 8 years, which is 45 minutes from Lake Louise. I agree with Kick and fly into Calgary, rent a car and drive to Kananaskis for the night (Nokoda casino is on the TransCanada highway 1 turn off to Kananaksis).

Poor Betone, we are confusing him, he has no idea what Province to fly into:142smilie

Oh and that must have been awesome to work in Banff, yes I am sure you had to deal with some rich snobs now and then but overall that must have been fun. What an amazing area there, awesome views:scared

I lived in Saskatchewan for 3.5 years, maybe Betone should include that Province on his trip as well, his vacation looks like it will last 4 months:142smilie

By the way, if you drove from the Vancouver airport to Lake Louise, Alberta it would take you a while, that trip is about 800km (497 miles). But as jigs says it is a nice drive.

I've done bike trips from Banff to Van with my buds a handful of times in about 10 to 12 hours. Great times and fabulous scenic ride!

jigs got the right idea :0074

Here's another if you haven't done Glacier, Yellowstone & Grand Tetons national parks. Fly into Glacier and drive thru Yellowstone & the Grand Tetons down to DIA. Montana, Wyoming & Colorado are just awesome.

Either way it's a great trip! I'm bias to Alberta, lived here all my life and drawn to the mountains.

Had a bit of time to think this vacation through......Fly into Calgary and drive to Banff and stay 3 days, take two days to drive to Vancouver, Spend 4 days to see the major things that are there, including the Island and 1 day travel home. 11 Days in all and have three days at home to rest before going back to work :00hour

Seriously, some amazing advice from people that took time out of their day to help a guy looking to set a plan in place. THIS is why I love the General Forum and always get great advice/tips here. This Canada thing has now moved up on our bucket list to within the next 3 years, period. Thanks to all.

Canada 2nd biggest country in the world, so kinda tough to narrow down where to go. Although if memory serves me correctly you like wine so I'd guess you'd want to include wine country on your list.

I'd bag the whole idea and get a room in downtown Detroit. Then if you want to go to Canada, just head across the bridge to Windsor. Save you a few bucks.

Great plan. Enjoy your trip! Again I agree withe Kick, if you really like wine, hit up wine country in the Kelowna/ Penticton area. Mission Hill winery is a must see. If you golf then hit the links at the Banff Springs golf course (I use to have a membership there) or Silver Tip golf course (my wife worked there in the summers while going to university) both courses are amazing and a must play if you enjoy golf.
