Yeah, the big ten on the whole is not as good as everyone thought, but Maryland is for real. I am sure they will hit a bad patch at some point, but they are a very good young team that is getting better and better. Have to admit they are doing better than I thought especially on the road. If others besides Cowan and Fernando continue to contribute like they did tonight they can do some damage. We will see what they have Monday night at Michigan State and I would not be surprised at all if they give them a game.

Passing on tonights game. Just need a little breather after yesterday. Still pissed about the Saints game as it cost me huge money given that the Pats won. Still broke even for the day but I can not get the money swing out of my head today. Doesn't help that it is freaking freezing here and just too cold and windy to walk.
Should be a great game to watch if Maryland can keep their confidence up and not get down too big early. I think State is going to beat them up a little down low as Smith is just not physical enough in the paint. Would not be surprised to see Maryland give them a game if they can avoid getting down big the first 10 minutes. Just not sure this young team is ready for this type of game yet.

Maryland has been playing well lately. Going to make small play on plus 5 in first half. Last few games the Terps seem to be more focused in the first half. Hope the trend continues.

Taking a shot with this tonight. I do not think Michigan is as good as everyone thinks. They got off to a great start but I think you see them play on the road tonight like they did against Wisconsin. Line is based off of Indiana's piss poor form lately and they have been bad, but I think tonight is a must win game for them to get back on track. Just one of those games where Michigan looks too easy. I think the Hoosiers can win an ugly game.

Maryland vs Illinois
This is technically a home game for MD. Really it is a home game they were robbed of and moved to MSG. I am not a big fan of this. Most teams have big home court advantages and taking a home game away from a team is never a good situation for the home team.
Maryland has had 5 full days off and will be playing on a court they are unfamiliar with. Not a big deal for a veteran team but not ideal for a very young team. Illinois is a guard oriented offense and does not have much in the middle. Fernando should have a field day inside on their freshman. I think we are going to get another slow start. Thought about Illinois + in the FH, but I am not sure I trust them and would rather see how they come out and play, so

I think Maryland matches up very well against Illinois and the Illini should struggle shooting the ball. My guess is Maryland and Cowan start slow once again. I knew this was a dangerous game for MD and the Big 10 did them no favors. I am confident they win this game at home, now they have a conference loss they should not have and a bad loss on their resume come tournament time. Having said that, they played a terrible undisciplined second half. They looked like they were going through the motions to do enough to beat a team they are better than. They are not that good and you can not do that in conference play, so Turgeon better make sure they learn their lesson as this is a game they should have never lost. Their youth definitely showed today as all the freshman were off and Cowan could not pick up all the slack.

He played his worst game of the year (5 turnovers and 0 points!) and it was a big reason the Terps lost today (20 turnovers is the real reason they lost). I realize he is a freshman (but he is a 20 year old freshman!), but he needs to get more consistent for Maryland to get better this year.

This is an absolute must win game for MD. Not only because they are coming off two losses and one bad one to Illinois, but because their schedule get very tough after this (@Wisc, @Neb, Purdue, @Mich, @Iowa). This is why I said they got screwed having to play a home game in NYC. I do not see many wins coming in that 5 game stretch, so they have to win this one. Northwestern can be a frustrating team to play. They defend the perimeter very well, so MD has to pound the ball inside and stop settling for 3's. Northwestern also has trouble scoring against good defensive teams and only scored 46, 60, 55 and 66 in their conference road losses. I just do not see either team lighting it up in this one and both teams have been strong under plays this year, so I am going with the obvious plays:

Was dead on with this one as it was never really in doubt. Northwestern is a terrible offensive team and they were particularly bad tonight. Not a great game to watch as Maryland was not that great either on offense but they were very good defensively.

I will try to expand on this tomorrow if I can, but the play is

But this is not on a neutral court and they are catching a Wisconsin team that is hot right now.
