I am ready to return to the ring and give my fans a fantastic night of boxing by the best out there and for me, that is Victor Ortiz," Mayweather said in a statement. "At this stage of my career, these are the challenges I look for-- a young, strong, rising star looking to make his mark in boxing by beating me.

"Like the rest of my opponents, he is going to try to prove that he can beat me. I commend him for accepting the fight. But on Sept. 17, Ortiz is just going to be another casualty, the 42nd one who tried and failed. Trust me. I'll be ready."

The above is an excerpt from a longer article in the Las Vegas Review Journal today, 6/07/2011. LVRJ.com.

tix wont be as outrageous as a pacman fight..

right?

RIGHT!!??

:mj07:

NOTHING is in that league!!! People will want to see Floyd to see if he has enough to beat Pacquiao. It could be a prelude to the richest fight in boxing history, if Pac isn't president of the Philippines by then.

Not a bad fight. This bout was slated before so it was obviously in the works but the terms weren't complete.

The term I'm speculating that caused the snag is the blood testing. Victor now must be available everyday at 3 .a.m. and 3 p.m. to give several tubes of blood or Money will walk. :142smilie :mj07:

Not may will agree but I think this is a real fight for Money. Victor is fast, well conditioned and can punch. He showed mettle in his last bout and excellent conditioning.

Wouldn't be shocked if this fight ends the desire to see Mayweather and Pacquiao share the ring together. Fighters often stub their toes in situations like this.

If there are no blood test snags, I only hope Ortiz MAKES Mayweather fight. Floyd is extremely economical in his style of boxing, and I attributed this to his stellar defense. If Ortiz can chink the armor we may have a REAL fight. Mayweather frustrates guys because he is elusive; opponents waste a lot of energy not hitting him. Floyd will open as a large betting favorite.

I take everything Arum says with a grain of salt, BUT, I believe there is some truth to this. Maybe there is method in Mayweather's madness? Pac-man fights Marquez in November and I am predicting a HUGE upset. I will take JMM in this one. I know Marquez isn't great at 144-147, but he has nothing to lose and all to gain. Manny is busy rewriting the Philippino constitution.

i think he is now back tracking on this statement :mj07:

I am so sick of Mayweather's bullshit excuses about fighting Manny. This is not a prelude, because Mayweather is chicken shit. Manny would whip his ass and Floyd knows it.

Grow a set and fight a real fight Floyd. You saw what Pac-Man did to Ricky Hatton and it scared the living shit out of you.

Mayweather is a tool, plain and simple.

"the bunker"
ortiz is a legit opponent for anybody......probably better than anybody manny`s beaten since marquez(with the possible exception of a diminished cotto).....

matter of fact, mayweather AND manny haven`t exactly been beating a ton of guys on the short side of 30 over the last 4-5 years....

they`ve been fattening up on guys living off their reputations...picking the low hanging fruit...
