mjb - where to start. what you and your apologists construe in my remarks as bashing couldn't be farther from their intent. anyone who's been around here for some time can tell you that's not my typical nature. rather, my purpose was to deflect, with levity, from an exchange that only promised to deteriorate because of its personal tone while trying to preserve some semblance of the merits of both sides. my response to you was meant to suggest that you were using words not in everyday usage that have subtleties of meaning not appropriate to your context. it was easy to see that they were not words that you would normally use to communicate your thoughts. thus, they came off as callow and artificial. hell, i'm just a southern redneck myself and not likely to ridicule anyone for their dixie lineage. just trying to point out that it always comes through when we try to appear as something we are not.
with no intent of presumption, let me offer a few suggestions on how to post plays without alienating a large segment of the viewers of this forum. as i have been around this forum since its inception, i honestly believe i have some insight in this area.
1. it is not necessary in posting plays to trumpet how well your plays have been in times prior to posting here. others unfamiliar with your history have no way to judge the credibility of such claims, and they will be taken as immodest at best and self-serving at worst.
2. it is not necessary to post early to announce that your plays will be forthcoming some time later. to some, it gives the impression that you envision a legion of eager followers anxiously awaiting the publication of your next play.
3. it is not necessary to bump your thread back to the top of the forum at the end of a particularly successful day in order that everyone might revel in your success. those that read your post in the beginning will notice a good day without the prompting.
4. if you concentrate on merely posting the plays that you like along with some concrete thoughts that you believe support those plays, i'll guarantee that your success will be noted and you will not be slammed when they don't pan out. i say that because that has been the unique quality of this forum since it's beginning.
5. this forum is populated by a variety of betting types, but at its core is a cadre of old timers that have been around sportsbetting for some time, and they know what is possible to achieve in the long run. claims to the contrary will only breed incredulity.
6. follow these simple guidelines, and you'll find this place much less confrontational, and also much less likely to produce a response you find offensive or hurtful. should you continue the style that you have started, i would expect you will draw a fair share of detractors. for a lot of mj'ers, this ain't their first rodeo.
g/l in your plays.
