Run Lola Run (Germany) - Groundhog Day on "X". Soundtrack and frenetic action make for an hour-and-a-half long music video. Franka Potente is not a classic beauty, but she kinda grew on me.
Audition (Japan) - Widower "auditions" women under the pretense of making a film. The Bachelor gone insane...not for the squeamish. Well-paced, like most top-notch Japanese filmms. I can't remember the female lead's first name - surname is Shiina. But she makes for a lasting impression in the end.
I caught a Beat Takeshi flick on cable recently, Brother. Decent but Fireworks is his best. Takeshi Kitano is fantastic at portraying complex sociopathic gangsters/maverick cops.
He directs, writes and stars in Fireworks. Reminiscient of a French film with its lush score and panoramic cinematography. Understated but still a violent film about a cop burdened by both family tragedy and debt to the Yakuza.

Big Fish, Quiz Show, Primal Fear and Election are some more that come to mind. Die Hard and Terminator 2 if you are looking for the pinnacle of action movies.

I love a good movie and I have not seen a few on this list myself so I am adding them to my list of movies I'd like to see. I am a harsh critic of movies and find only about 1 or 2 of every ten that come into the theaters as worthy of watching. Most movies really suck as far as there storylines go. There are some good action flicks (Die Hard, The Rock, Con-air, to name a new... ) that I did not include on my list cause although I found them decent and enteraining, I tend to perfer more realistic movies for the most part.
I will be renting Raising Arizona, Quiz Show, King of NY, and Dude, Where's My Dildo (jk) as soon as time permits.
