this is smokeless day #48 for me. you've heard this before but it's true. "IF I CAN DO, IT ANYBODY CAN!"

I can't believe that i've come this far. i was up to near 3 packs a day and smoked since i was 16........30 years of that crap!

bear convinced me that if i could just get through the first 3 days i could do it. so, all i was doing (in my mind) was quitting for 3 days. it was tough, really tough, but i pulled it off and am sitting on day #48. YOU CAN DO IT!!

another big tip i got from DTB was the jar of butts in water. i used that frequently for the first 2 weeks. put some old nasty butts in a jar of water and when you get the urge, stare at the nasty crap in the jar and even open it up and smell it. smell and see how disgusting those things are. tell yourself you're NOT going to do it anymore. they're nasty and dirty and are killing you. you will start breathing better and the coughing will stop within a few days.

good luck!!

.......2 and a half months here and I'm sure DTB is still with us. Kiss your babies and then kiss those nasty butts goodbye...for them and for you.
Your wife will follow your success down the road but dont blame her if it gets tough in the early days!!!! Cause it WILL....and you'll get a little touchy, or very tough to live with for a while....Come on down here ...we'll help you out! Tough, tough...but we're a tough bunch here.. a lot tougher than nicotine! I'd still like to light up but I laugh at it now...NO PROB!

I failed an insurance exam about two months ago. Went to my doctor to see if there had been some mistake. After he had reviewed my lab results I asked him.. Well, what do you think?

"You're screwed"! That's what he said looking me right in the eyes.

I said.. oh really. So what now?

Well....here's what you gotta do.

Stop smoking
Start exercising again (I lost 25 lbs about this time last year biking before work in the dark through Sun City and Sun City West.. probably the safest place in the world to bike at night or in the dark. All the cops know me) I stopped exercising and gained it all back.
Diet.. lose 30 pounds

The doctor who has no bedside manner at all said that if I don't do all this chit I'll be a full blown diabetic within five years.

So........ I'm ready to stop smoking too.
Starting tomorrow

njsf-good luck
jack-I am proud of your accomplishments-Iknow it must have been hard but...hope you are enjoying the rewards.
It is Sunday's like this that I remember sitting and watching the late games with my gramps and needing a cover. Those cigs killed him-wish I was there rooting with him today.
Good Luck to both of you.

SD you are right. I stopped 1988, 78 cents a pack. 2 x packs per day. I said well thats $1.50 rounded off. 7 x 150 + 10.50 a week. I rounded it off at 10 bucks a week, 40 bucks a month. Had it go each month into a money mkt fund. You do the math at 4% over 12.5 years now. WOW! just think what some one spends on these things a week now. You can dam near retire in 25 years on money saved by not smoking. GL

njsf25g,
Not only will you be doing good for your ownself and health by not smoking, but you'll be doing us non-smokers a favor by not pissing us off with second hand pollution. If you thought non-smokers should mind their own business and not complain before when you were smoking, soon enough, you will be next to some smoker somewhere and you'll be thinkink to yourself "Damn this butt-head, stop polluting my air space." Then you'll think to yourself, "Oh man, I was one of them before." (Though No offense to the smokers...heh heh)

njsf25g, wish you all the luck and think about all the money you can save instead of buying cigarettes, u can spend it on other more useful worthwhile things like the trout on the wall singing fish, AbRoller, George Foreman cooking Grill, or gambling!!!

I cannot speak from experience since I never have smoked but if you are trying to quit, then I hope the best for you. I constantly try to encourage my friends to quit smoking. It is a good decision for you and anyone that cares for you. More power to you and keep everyone on the forum informed how it goes. Maybe you can encourage someone else to quit smoking.

Let's go, NJ! Haven't had one since Sept 26th, when I landed a horrible respiratory infection which has now cleared up and the true cravings begin. Like beer drinking time -- the worst! Quit for a year in 1997, used nicotine gum to get me through the tough times.

Here's a message I got that helped me then and now: keep trying, if you relapse, let it go and continue your battle. Nicotine is highly addictive, both physically and psychologically. We can do it, NJ!!!!
