For starters, this will go down as an all time classic for me. The best CFB game I have ever attended and boy did I pick the right game to go to South Bend for the first time. Amazing!

Here are some random thoughts.

ND is back! Weis is the real deal! I saw it in Pete Carroll in year 1 and I am seeing it in Weis in year 1. ND will be have the similar instant success as USC! USC/ND rivalry (if both carroll and weis stay) will def. be the #1 rivalry in CFB (which I think it is already). ND will be contending for NC next season!

I think the biggest game changer was in the 1q where USC was up 7-0. ND had 4th and 1 own 29 and went for it. If ND punted or never got 1st down, USC would have won tonight by 15+pts. I think it would have turned into a blowout. HUGE call by ND and they ended up scoring 7 off it. The next big game changer was the punt return for ND.

USC hurt themselves. Before I give ND credit, USC played poorly. At least 5 dropped passes and most were at least 10-20+ yard gains. Can't do that against the #9 team in the country on the road. USC of course gave up punt return for ND TD to go down 21-14. Again, you can't do that $hit against the #9 team in the country on the road. Lastly, USC down 21-14, 1st and goal at the ND 10 yard line, throws an INT. Can't do that against the #9 team in the country.

Leinart I thought played well. Quinn was the better QB today (mainly because of his legs). Remember, Leinart suffered a minor concussion against ASU and today he got banged up in the head again with Lendale White. I think it hurt him in making reads. But the 2 main reasons for Leinart not looking "heisman" like was #1 dropped passes and #2 ND pressure. USC OL could not keep the pressure off Leinart. Great job by front 7 for ND!

I am SHOCKED :scared ND shut down Lendale White. AMAZING JOB! IMO Lendale White up until today was USC's best running back with the best production. He was SHUT DOWN! However, Reggie Bush took over White's spot as being the most productive and Bush flat out won the game for USC. What a special player and he is the best player in the country and he won the Heisman Trophy tonight! Unless Leinart starts recovering from his minor consussion but he might need few more weeks.

I thought the USC D played well especially against a ND offense that has had 2 weeks to prepare. At the end of the game the USC D was spent because they were on the field ALL game. USC did HORRIBLE job offensively managing the clock. Weis did a superb job! The young USC OC's still have a lot to learn!

ND was the 3rd ranked opponent USC had to face on the road. :scared USC took their opponents best shot and came out with the win once again. In this case, Weis has been preparing for this game since Feb. AND had 2 weeks. If USC wins the NC this year, they have done an amazing job. But USC still must beat Fresno St., UCLA and @CAL to make it to Rose Bowl! Not easy!

I think the better team won tonight but both teams deserved to win. I have not seen the game on TV so i cannot give an honest comment because my view was from the 15 yard line. I thought G-Man said it best. ND had their chances to beat USC offensively and defensively. They came up short and USC won the game. As for the refs. I am not sure they made a bad call. If someone wants to argue Bush pushing leinart, well that is stupid. That happens all the time in CFB and it is a rule that I have NEVER seen flagged. #2, Bush pushed Leinart but then moved away. Was not like he was standing behind him and went into the end zone with Leinart. Look at the pics of leinart crossing the goal line and Bush is nowhere to be seen.

As for ND fans and stadium. Class act and I enjoyed myself. I interacted with ND fans all around me (sat in ND section) and had a blast. I was decked out in USC gear with my USC Hockey shirt and USC hat. We were screaming and telling each other our opinions on both teams etc. all game. After the game we all shook hands with respect for one another. ND stadium is small but man o man was it loud. Never been to a game that loud. WOW! I also enjoyed the ND band (something I never seen because they do no travel to USC) The student section for ND is amazing. Love the tradition. Wish USC student section could be HALF as organized. I loved every minute of the game and I never enjoyed a CFB game more than I did tonight. Had such a great time!

To all the IRISH fans on this site. YOU GOT A GREAT TEAM AND A GREAT COACH! I am a big fan of ND and want them to win every game except against USC. You also have great classy fans! I had a blast in South Bend but I also have very little voice left and emotional drained! Reason I am back in my hotel at 2am! After that 4th and 9 completion, my voice cracked from screaming so loud and that is when I lost my voice for good! :)

Goodnight and can't wait to watch the game on TIVO Tues. night! USC has a heart of a champion. You don't see teams who have won 27 games in a row with 2 NC's play with this much heart. You would think USC is going for their 1st BCS NC in the last 15 years! USC has a lot to work on if they want to win the BCS NC this year but the good news is USC has a lot of room to grow and improve. Very very young team and they FINALLY get to go into a stretch of easier games instead of playing top 25 opponents on the road. Remember, Carroll teams ALWAY improve as season goes on and USC will be playing their best football at the end of the year.

Putting aside your love for the Trojans, you should atleast admit he pushed him. It doesn't matter where he ended up at, he did push him & should have been flagged.

I'm glad you had a great time though!

Like I said. I was at the game and did not see it. Stupid ND does not have a big screen to show replays. :(

But I saw it on TV when I got back to hotel room an hour ago. YES Bush pushed him. Bush even said so publicly. However, the push was not huge deal. It was NOT like Bush stood behind Leinart and pushed him into end zone with him. Bush sorta gave him nudge and went off running. Like steering him into the right direction. Yes that is technically against the rules, but like I said, I NEVER seen a ref call what Bush did a penaltiy. It is a rule that never gets called.

I will say this. Both USC and ND got breaks and I never thought USC would get breaks @ South Bend. Before the game, I said USC will blow out ND or lose a close one. I am shocked USC could win 3 road games against ranked opponents in hostile environments. Amazing job USC has accomplished this year. Funny how people were bagging on USC's schedule before the season. What boneheads!

Scott,
I dont need a pissing match with you, but had Leinhart spun to the right, instead of the left, we all would be talking about Usc's chances of getting to the NC game. He was stood up straight, ND's D had pushed the middle, and in that split second he got pushed barely enough(by Reggie, great players make a diff) to get him FALLING in the right direction, which was enough to let him fall in.
I welcome your reply, but like I said, I will not get into an argument with you over this
Looking forward to the rest of your write ups :)

Yes I agree with you. Bush did push him but I said it was like he guided Leinart to the endzone. It was not like Leinart rushed up the middle, and bush standing right behind him pushing him straight and then Bush falling into the endzone behind Leinart. To me that is a bit more "obvious" but I still don't think a flag would have been thrown if that happened. If you look at the pics of Leinart crossing the goal line, Bush is NOWHERE to be seen.

If USC lost last night, I think USC still plays in the Rose Bowl provided there are not 2 undefeated BCS teams. I been reading how a lot of people feel USC still should play in Rose Bowl even with 1 loss to defend their title. I am not sure I 100% agree with that. But losing by 3pts @ND who is ranked #9 in the country and big rival is no shame. Remember, ND been preparing for this game since last Feb. and had bonus 2 weeks to add to preparation. I am just glad USC played 4 quarters.

Remember, USC team that beat ND by 3pts @ND will not be the same USC team in NOV and not the same USC team in Jan. With this close win over ND, I might get USC -3 or less in the Rose Bowl if USC is fortunate enough to get there!

One more thing. ND not cutting their grass gave USC 3rd string RB a season ending injury. WHY would ND not cut the grass? Didn't a ND player also get injured from the grass? I don't understand why you would do that and why doesn't the NCAA have rules on keeping the field in proper condition. Desmond Reed played HUGE role for USC and now is lost for the season. He was injured on a play where NOBODY contact with him. It clearly was the grass which caught his cleats and twisted his knee. I am very disturbed over this and feel so bad for Reed. All because ND chose not to cut the grass.

Maybe that is why Weis went into the USC locker room after the game and congratulated USC on the win and hope USC wins the NC. But I think the real reason is to get good PR because he is the reason USC lost Desmond Reed and he injured Reed by choosing NOT to cut the grass. I hope Weis pays for this through KARMA! Oh wait, maybe he did with USC winning in dramatic fashion!

Now USC lost their 3rd, 4th and 5th best RB's they counted on this year. :scared

Reed, Dennis, and Washington. 2/3 were top 10 nationally ranked backs out of high school. SUCKS! USC has been depleted with injuries this season. NOT FAIR! :(

Dont worry Scott Im sure USC' 4th string back should allow for those wins over Stanford, and Org St. but I would be worried if your down to your 3rd string back facing Fresno St......

Scott - I'm glad you had a blast at the game. It was an incredible athmosphere. A couple of points...

USC wouldn't of beat ND by more than 15+ even if they punted on 4th and 1. Their defense played incredible. I still can't believe how M. Richardson played.

ND had some very costly turnovers as well. A. Fasano getting the ball knocked from him from behind on USC 20... The lucky pick in the 1st quarter when the defender hit Brady's arm and ball fluttered.

USC got SHUT down anytime they got the received the ball between the 10-20 yard. (Except for the last series of the game.)

That was an ILLEGAL push by R. Bush and a flag should have been called. However, I don't blame the loss on that play. They should have stopped USC on 4th and 9 on the 26. It never should have came to that.

Pete Carroll is a pussy. Who in the world doesn't want instant replay. Only someone who has Pac 10 officials against someone out of conference. The play at the end should have been reviewed to see where to exactly spot the ball. I still haven't seen where the ball landed so the correct call could have been made... who knows. But the option of looking at the play should have be there.

W/O Reggie Bush ND wins that game by 21+. He was the only player on USC that made a difference. You shouldn't be suprised that L.
White got shut down - ND always shut down power running backs.

USC couldn't cover ND's tall receivers. They were hanging on to them the entire game. There should have been about 3 more pass interefence calls in that game.

USC front four is incredible... They single handely shut down ND running game.

It was one of the best games I have ever seen. One of these times we will come out on top again.

scott,

I was in the stadium friday night and I've been in the stadium countless times in the last 10 years......the grass friday looked like it always looks.....it is always a little thicker/shaggier than what you might expect......kind of like wrigley field. That didn't cause your boy to blow his knee out......that guy blew he knee out because he didn't know where the ball was and in an attempt to spin around in a hurry for it, he planted wrong and it gave out.....he did that to himself....sorry!!

before you give ND credit, USC played poorly...

you know what, i now refuse to give USC any credit... not that they deserve any. save the "cut the grass" and all that... didnt they both play on the same field??? wow! it sure slowed down reggie bush so, save it. USC is lucky, LUCKY to come outta south bend with a victory. the last drive 4th down play, with no timeouts left? i guess USC played that down poorly. leinart conveniently fumbling out of bounds with 7 seconds left... then, forward progress coming to a stop on the final play...

if anything, ND played poorly, or down to the USC level... ill timed passing on behalf of quinn who still stepped up for a big game. when fasano had the ball "punched out" from behind, was that poor USC defense? when ND pk fitgerald missed his last FG, i guess that was USC playing poorly as well.

listen up... i told you i respect the streak, i respect the two national titles in a row and i respect carroll...

ill say this, leinary better get the cobwebs out and this team better be ready for 4 quarters... i cannot wait until january... if ASU, AU and ND gave you scares... TX is gunna gunna put the amityville horror on you.

btw, you did see the best game, in the best stadium, with the best atmosphere youll ever go to.

id give away my profit on the spread clear for that outright win though... OOOOOOOOOOHHHH, did i want it to be ND before TX. the green jerseys too!!! i lost my voice about 5x.

i am now a HUGE Horns booster... leinart is gunna wish he came out last year after the 1H concussion TX is gunna put on him. team speed v. team speed - its TX. whatever the line is, TX on the ML. probably wont be one since it will be less than 3.

how many rabbits foots did you bring to south bend to pull that one out scott???

amen!!

ND isn't getting any credit nor have they all year.....all we hear after every week is "well so and so didn't play well" or "so and so isn't as good as they were supposed to be" what a bunch of garbage!! The hatred is back in full effect because the fear is back.....people see what is happening in south bend and they don't like it.....too bad people.....it is only going to get much worse for all who hate. :mj07: :mj07:

No credit. You are ranked 9th with 2 losses ahead of Texas Tech who is undefeated and you havent beat a team with a winning record YET. Not to mention you are 0-2 at home. Typical ND bias to even have your sorry asses in the top 20 right now.

holy shit. i just saw the poll. notre dame being ranked ahead of florida state is a joke. notre dame loses twice at home (and trailed one of those teams at home by 20+ points in the second half), florida state loses once on the road..... and the irish are higher? thats downright stupid.

at least in my eyes, thats much better. notre dame dug themselves a big hole against michigan state at home, much the same way boston college did against wake forest. at least the eagles came all the way back and still won. and their lone loss to florida state isnt exactly a bad loss. but neither team should be ranked ahead of florida state, who has a win over miami on their resume, as well as their lone loss being on the road.

the usa today poll i can accept. but that first poll was nuts. normally i dont care about polls. in fact, i like when theyre way off and totally skewed -- it makes for easier betting lines because of public overreaction. but notre dame ahead of fsu was laughable

actually we have.....michigan is 4-3 but whatever....and give me a break about texas tech.....go look at their schedule.....fla. int., indy st., sam houston st., nebraska, k-state, and kansas.......are you kidding me......you must be a sycamore grad right.....they've played 3 true D-1 teams and all 3 stink. I could care less where we are ranked....I was more talking about the fools who always have an excuse as to why the irish win or play well....instead of the irish being good it is the other team stinks or the other team had a bad day......give me a break.....phuck the polls kid I wasn't even talking about polls....obviously you have some pent up hate of the irish which is cool.....I love it....only getting worse for you in the future!! :mj07:
