Seriously though - I think there's at least a chance they ditch the Washington part of the name and go with DC instead. Because of trademark trolls like this guy.

I would not pay one dime to a troll. If you're going to give anyone money, give it to Mark Lerner and make them the Nationals too. It would not be unprecedented. NY had 2 Giants teams for a while; St. Louis had two Cardinals teams. Certainly no better timing for it with the Nationals fresh off a WS victory.

That's the problem with the knee-jerk reaction here. If you weren't ready to change the name yet - then just announce that it will be changing after this season and do it in a - ya know - organized and well thought out way. Play as the Redskins for one more year. It's not like this particular controversy just erupted overnight. I agree the name should be changed but any reasonable person should be able to appreciate that there are legal and logistical complexities that require more than 6 weeks to unravel. But this country seems a bit short on reasonable people at the moment.
