Looked like a dirty slide to me. Bryce Harper would approve.

They all do that to break up the DP but Odor didn't like it one bit and Bautista won't be doing that again anytime soon. Not to Odor anyway.

No he won't, because Odor will be suspended for acting like a punk. The slide was hard but still a good baseball play. The same play Odor has done hundreds of times to other players in his career. Baseball players are soft anymore. They charge the mound after getting hit with a hanging curve in the thigh, sucker punch a guy for sliding hard. It's ridiculous.

Baseball is not a contact sport. That stupid "break up the double play" slide that rarely ever works should be taken out of the game. Why do neanderthals think every sport should be decided by survival of the fittest? Go watch MMA if you want to see lunkheads kill each other.

Baseball should just be baseball.

Also, I think the slide was an excuse to pop him for the bat flip last post season. I say good for Odor, about time someone took a swing at stupidity. There would be less idiots roaming around if getting punched in the face was the penalty for being an asshole.

It is a contact sorry sport, ask every catcher that ever blocked the plate. Also, check out the video of Odor making a far worse slides into shortstop, try to hurt him, then when the shortstop days something Odor pushes him and hits him with an overhand right, then punches the second baseman in the face when he tries to break it up. Then there is last year when Odor slid out of the baseline, past second, and purposely spikes the second baseman. All after the ball had already been thrown into right field. So you tell me who the pariah is? Now there are t-shirts with the punch silk screened on them with some stupid caption. They sell them in kids sizes too. That way little junior doesn't have to celebrate punk behavior in baseball on his own.

Football 100 x worse then MMA, just sayin' Talk about lunkheads killing one another. Just look at all the NFL players whose brains are mush now. You want to watch men kill one another turn on the television Sunday afternoon in the Fall.

Oh and baseball players are the biggest babies of any sport. There is not a sport on earth with bigger pussies then baseball players.

Only baseball players would get upset with a bat flip, who the fuck cares if somebody flips a bat. Gimmie a fucking break. You are an asshole if you flip your bat? Ummm ok:facepalm:

*Than

I don't understand this. Why are the pussies? What are they supposed to do? They are baseball players, they are not gladiators, or as Jack points out, tennis players.

Just because they don't mindlessly beat the hell out of each other because it's not part of the game doesn't make them pussies. I would probably not suggest calling Mike Trout a pussy to his face, you can take your chances with Roger Federer, I suspect.

Sucker punch?

Bautista slides illegally .... regardless of how many times odor has done it in the past....it wasn't illegal then...now it is....so position guys are exposing themselves more now because they don't expect a dickhead like Joey bats to come in Like that....players know that middle infielders are putting their lower bodies in more fragile spots now and it's about not ending a guys year or career....

If it wasn't a rule I would have said Odor should have put himself in a better position to avoid contact....but it is a rule....and because of that rule Odor put himself in harms way anticipating Bautista to slide legally. Bautista, knowing Odor was vulnerable, tried taking advantage of it....weak stuff IMO....

And sucker punch.....

If you slide like that into a guy and risk ending his career, and then jump up pounding your chest and coming towards that same person in a aggressive and confrontational manner, I'd say you should have your hands ready ....Bautista likes to play the part of a tough guy.....

I don't blame odor.....even without the slide....if someone else gets in my face spitting straight shit talk, I hardly consider it a sucker punch for smacking him in the chin....

Lol watch Bautista after....trying everything he can to get away, yet 5 seconds prior he is walking up on Odor....

Listen I played college ball....I get the whole macho "that's just part of the game" ....but the fact is, it isn't part of the game anymore...and everyone is accountable for adjusting to rule changes...

Anyways, Bautista a loudmouth anyway....

We always say:
"Some people talk about it, some people be about it"

Bautista likes to talk about it

First of all, if thus was retaliation for the bat flip then he should have been plunked in his first at bat against them of the season. Instead the Rangers call up the hardest throwing pitcher they have in the minors, from AA mind you, just prior to the series. In his last at bat against them this season they bring in the rookie who promptly puts 96 mph fastball into his ribs. Pitchers are paid lots of money to be accurate with a fastball so the hit was intentional, it was high, and it was intent to injure. Then as Bautista is running to second Odor has plenty, and I mean plenty, if time to slide step and throw to first. Instead he squares on the bag and makes a nearly underhanded submarine throw directly at Bautista's face. A throw motion Odor doesn't normally make ever, yet this one is low and right at him. Bautista slides a little late but keeps his cleats down to make sure he doesn't spike him. Odor is ready for the confrontation and hoping for it so he says something to Bautista before he's even gotten to his feet after the slide. Bautista gets in his face asking what the fuck are you doing and Odor, as this is his signature move because he's done the exact thing twice before, pushes him to make room and punches hon in the face with an overhand right.
This was a planned attack on Bautista by the manager and team. That's why they waited until the last bat of the season against them and why they used a rookie pitcher to do it. You go ahead and defend the young punk because he threw a good punch, hell come get one of the cool t-shirts they're selling in the Dallas area now celebrating his punk act. I'm sure his actions are exactly what young impressionable players should be talking about. Hopefully in ten years or so we can see all those young men in the majors pounding the shit out of someone for leading off too much.

The rule changes are shit and unenforceable as its left up to umpire discretion and they can't do anything without replay anymore. The fact is Bautista made a solid baseball play as he slid to get out of the way of a baseball thrown at his face and then he got punched for it. The Rangers did every thing they could to cheat and play punk ass baseball on his last at bat. Those are the facts and it's all on tape. Maybe you should watch it again
