frankie...my question is,"why did manny struggle so with marquez"?...wasn`t a fluke...happened twice...i thought he lost both times....

and why did floyd toy with marquez?......it was a joke...i expected to see a clown car drive into the ring and have 10 bozos pile out...it was that one-sided...

i think that freddie roach is one smart mofo...

If I was smart enough to answer that gw, I'd say it speaks to one guy having another guy's number. Moseley could'nt lose to Oscar DeLa Payday. Moseley had him figured cold. Meanwhile Vernon Forrest destroys Mosleley like he was a rank amatuer. He OWNED him big-time. I don't know; they say styles make fights; matchups, etc. I still think Marquez would give Pac fits because he isn't intimidated by him and he seems to KNOW how to fight him. Oh, only if we had the answers, we'd be rollin in dough.

Pacquiao was a different guy guy at 130, weight drained and weak - for him. And when they fought qt 126, Pacquiao was much more one dimensional

And Marquez clearly was all wrong at over 140. Held the weight terribly and may have finally gotten a little old. Still went to distance with Money May easy enough.

Don't forget Pac nearly KO'd Marquez in both fights.

And look at the other common opponents. Hatton and Oscar. Pac did it so much better.

hatton and oscar came after floyd fought those same guys...manny got sloppy seconds...oscar didn`t have to drain as much weight for floyd(making your manny argument)...the first stoppage loss changes many fighters...

dlh(obvious, imo)was weight drained and over the hill....hatton had seen his best days...and cotto wasn`t the same guy after getting butchered by a guy with plaster of paris handwraps(many think clottey got a bad decision there)....

just addressing the other side of the match-up(which hasn`t been broached)..not angling for a fight...

sometimes we latch onto an opinion here and suffer a collective case of groupthink.....

so many variables...
just trying to supply a little food for thought....

No,no I'm not angling either. Just adding other thoughts to your inquiry. Hatton and Oscar may have been better when they met Floyd and Marquez was obviously better when he fought Pac and Pac wasn't as good then as he is now.

But Hatton looked excellent in banging out Paulie prior to meeting Pac and Cotto still hung with a very strong Clottey so I'm not sure you can say these guys were too diminished when Pac got to them

As for Oscar, he's a big boy and felt he could make 47 and made the fight with the intent to beat up a little guy. If making 47 screwed him up, shame on him. Still, he said he felt great leading up to opening bell. And he's been around long enough to know how he's feeling or looking.

Some Considerations for the fight.

Some Considerations for the fight.

I remember watching the Zabdiel Judah vs Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr. and I will probably watch it agin to confirm this. Zab, who 4 year ago was a better fighter, has very fast hands the first half of his fights. Watching the first four rounds of the fight, Judah, who is a southpaw like Manny Pacquaio, was catching Mayweather like no one had before. The speed was too much for Mayweather to react and Judah's southpaw stance confused him a bit. Zab got tired by round 5 or 6 and the fight was now Mayweather's , but since this fight Mayweather has stayed from fast punchers and southpaws. Manny has long lasting speed and he is a southpaw who throws punches from weird angles.

I am going to do a little more fight film watching but I am leaning early to the Pac-Man especially if the fight is at 145. Of course he could just take the fine again like in the Marquez fight. (According to Keith Kizer, executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the bout was supposed to have a weight limit of 144 lbs. When Mayweather Jr. weighed in two pounds over the contracted weight, he was forced to pay Marquez $600,000)

I think I speak for us all when I say, I really hope this fight happens. :yup

Agree with your observations matt. Judah, first off, is a fuking clown. A tremendous gifted fighter who wasted his talent. Pac is focused, doesn't tire, but I don't think Roach will let $$$ May get away with coming in over. He is WAY too astute, parkinsons or not, to fall for this crap. As I said, if they fought TODAY, I love Pac-man. 6-8-10 months down the road things can happen. Kelly Pavlik went from a monster to a mook. There are numerous examples of boxers losing their focus. One never knows.

That is true about focus. Pac-Man has a lot of distractions, but I think he will be fine. He seems like he truely enjoys boxing. Although if he beats Mayweather, he might retire.

So Cal
Despite all the clamor for this fight, don't you see the possibility that this won't be a good fight? If $M doesn't want to engage Pac Man, I think a bore fest might result despite Pac's efforts. Interested in other opinions.

quite a few guys get off to decent starts vs mayweather...none have been able to sustain it...

hatton looked good for a while until floyd` picked him apart...

is manny gonna be able to hit floyd like he hit oscar, hatton and cotto?....when was the last time we saw floyd damaged in a fight?...the only time i saw floyd take any real punishment was vs j.l.castillo,who forced him against the ropes...

that`s not manny`s style...

Yeah, I see this one most likely going the distance since mayweather is unlikely to mix it up. I see both fighters on the outside taking turns pounching in and out in quick jabs and an occasional combination burst. Also, since both guys have such good stamina it will be difficult for one guy to take control. But I still think Pacquaio will have a far higher punch output per round along with his great speed to give him the advantage in this fight.

I think pacquaio will be able to sustain a fast pace thoughout the fight, but I do agree that Floyd is hard to hit cleanly. In fact, I would go as far and say that Floyd is one of the hardest guys to hit flush in boxing with his shoulder roll and arm extended type defence. Pacquaio will catch him enought to win the fight, but probably not enough to knock him out. Also Pacquaio did catch Cotto quite a few times on the ropes, but you are right it is not his style to get opponents on the ropes and ruff them up to the body.

From what I've seen the only guy who MADE $$$ May fight was Castillo, as gw noted and I truly believe $$$ May LOST to him. $$$ May fought Marquez as a tune up/payday deal. He KNEW he would not get roughed up by the little mexican. I think Roach will convince Pac-man to "let the dogs out" and go all in on $$$ May. We sure are devoting a lot on copy to a fight that may never happen. Personally, I'm over it for now.

I think Matt is reading my mind with some of the issues in this fight :scared

Zab was continually beating May to the punch and was ahead after 4 rounds but as per normal, he could not sustain his early work.
There will be no such problems for Manny, If May waits for Manny to tire, he will be waiting all night.

The only person to give May trouble was JLC and he did so with pressure.
Manny is a buzzsaw with stamina for day's.

The only person to ever Buzz May was Corley and he did it with speed not power.

The problem with most opponents for May is, they can't keep up the pace. This includes Oscar, who was also giving May trouble until he started running out of gas.

In Manny, Floyd is fighting someone with wrecking ball power, Superhuman speed, activity and stamina that a Marathon runner would be proud of.

Now for Floyds side of things.

Marquez outboxed Manny. Floyd is better than Marquez and is a good counterpuncher.

Cotto was doing well against Pac until he started slugging.
There will be no such issues with Floyd. He will mantain his gameplan and won't give two shits about stinking the joint out.

Manny can be cut when he is hit and May will be hitting him.

Manny is not used to seeing someone with Floyds speed and stamina. It will be a shock to him.

I don't believe we have EVER seen the best of Floyd yet. If we are ever going to see it, it will be during this fight.

In closing, If May is + anything come fight night, I will be betting my house on him!!!

I'm not sure these two statements really go together. Betting the house against Roach and Pacquiao...

This is the statement I pay closer attention to Punchmaster.

I think we have seen the best of Pac, I don't believe we have seen the best of Floyd. :toast:
