Drug testing could sink Pacquiao-Mayweather fight;

Dec 22, 2009 8:21 PM EDT

The megafight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been thrown into jeopardy.

Mayweather's camp is demanding the fighters submit to Olympic-type drug testing in the weeks leading up to the bout. Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's manager, says the fight will not go on if Pacquiao doesn't agree to blood testing under standards followed by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.

Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum could not immediately be reached for comment on Tuesday.

Ellerbe says all the other details to the March 13 fight had been agreed upon. But he says Pacquiao refused to have his blood drawn within 30 days of the fight, saying it was a superstition.

The fight had been expected to be formalized this week.

roach has a fair point though. first of all the olympic testing in pro boxing is already "unconventional and unheard of"... withdrawing blood from someone has it's effects..the NSAC has already cleared pacquiao ten times of doping. how many tests pac has to make? and even if pac pass those olympic tests, stupid allegations from mayweather camp will still surface. it's almost comical floyd sr is now an expert on drugs, all i know is that he has been incarcerated coz of other drugs not related to boxing. and post cotto fight, floyd sr was quoted that doping won't make your chin better and won't make your punches faster like what pacquiao has been showing but still he stands by his own dumb theories that pacquiao is into something. he does not know but pac is on something. wtf is that?

this is just floyd mayweather and camp posturing and making the negotiations difficult... prbably surprised packy called his cowardly bluff.. what's funny is that floyd brags so much how this is an easy fight yet he has this stupid concessions like 154 lb limit, 10oz gloves and this never before seen olympic drug testing...

i hope team pac requests an AUTOPSY for floyd jr after the fight

Pac Man has had to pass drug tests for 50 + fights. There is no legitimate reason to require a different type of test for this fight than any other in the state. It is Mayweather's weak attempt to try to get in to Pac Man's head. I will be waiting for a counter from Roach. You will see it soon.

I agree with GW. Pac is doing things that are just beyond human. Passing 50 + drug tests is irrelevent IMO. Where there is a will there is a way. Perhaps they are juicing during training and cutting out in time to test neg post fight. It's mere speculation with no proof but cmon, the guy is a freak of nature and not just beating solid welter wts but he's BEATING THE SHIT OUT OF THEM. There are countless fighters that have used steroids and not tested positive after a fight. I'm convinced RJ used, Mosley, Paz, Holy, Morison just to name a few. None of those guys got busted after a fight. Paz went from a scrawny lightwgt to a pumped 168 lber. I have no proof but you can't tell me he didn't juice. Superstition my ass...take the test and prove everybody wrong.

It seems to be the boxing way.
I mean go back and watch the last two fights Hopkins has had and watch the two fights before that.
Same with Mosley.

These guys new saying has become 40 is the new 20.:142smilie

EXACTLY! They are either juicing or they have the sporting worlds best kept secret. Hop and Mos each looked/fought 10-15 yrs younger than their prior fights. Just a mere coincidence that both were trained by Richardson. Hop v Pav and Mos v Margo were arguably their career best performances. There has to be a reasonable explanation. I'm sorry but the answer isn't in the fcking Wheaties.

Its funny to see how both sides try to get an advantage...Pacman with his crazy weigh-in demand and now Floyd with his drug testing.

Pacman is a freak of nature, but I'm not positive that he didnt take any performance enhancing drugs...just as Hops and Mosley...

This is just what smart camps do. Get in the other guys head. You see Trindad waxing guys then he fights BHop and Bhop questions his hand wrap and BHop is right then goes out and blitzes Felix and Felix hasn't been the same since. You see Cotto with a dumb camp get destroyed by Plasterman. Then you see Mosley questioning this cheating fuker and the cheater gets caught and gets blasted with his real hands and not some crap bullshit in his gloves. Floyd isn't gonna cancel this fight. He might even get more money from Pacs camp to shut this stuff up. Pac passed 50 test? What were they looking for goat's piss? His head is growing at a Barry Bond's type of rate.

:0corn If he has nothing to hide, he will take the test..

I've always wondered about guys who get better - stronger at an older age.

The drug testing stuff can perhaps be negotiated but there is no reason for Pac to have his skin pricked 6-10 times leading up to fight. Whatever they agree to on with the drug testing it should and must be done by an independent body AND any test Pac has to take, Floyd must take as well and on the same day. They can test Pac in L.A, and then the the same guy can go to Vegas to test Floyd. And parties from both camps must be there for each test.

Bottom line - Floyd is a douche who doesn't really want to fight Pacquiao. Floyd wants out before it even starts. He's making unreasonable demands and will then turn it around on Pac and say he didn't want the fight. What a farce by Mayweather - a plain piece of excrement.

I'm surprised that so many guys won't give Pac the benefit of the doubt here. His situation does seem abnormal to be sure, but Mayweather and his crew of advisors seem the least likely of any bunch to come up with this. If this was suspected by others (and evidently it wasn't) it pushes the envelope to think that the Mensa clad Mayweather team would be the ones.

I'm also not sure that citing Pazienza, Holyfield and Morrison lend a lot of credence to this particular doping theory. Mosely maybe, but Morrison?

The point being that juicing is done thoughout the industry and it has been going on for several yrs. That cannot be disputed. Morrison is simply one of the guys that admitted, after the fact, that he used and that it was widespread. Does it mean that Pac juices? No it certainly doesn't. But if it looks likes a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it's probably a duck. IMO I think the guy is on something. It's just my opinion and we all know what an opinion is worth.

Very well said, I agree 130% with Kram. Here's all you need to know: Paq agreed to have his blood drawn the 1st week of January, also 30 DAYS BEFORE THE FIGHT, along with the night after the fight, so what's he going to do some amazing 4 week cycle that can't be detected after the fight, I think not. Mayweather hasn't taken on anyone he thought had a chance of beating him since Jose Luis Castillo in 2002 and now he's got a frightening two fisted southpaw in front of him and he doesn't like it one bit. So he's requiring Olympic style drug testing for a non Olympic event- unheard of and ludicrous and Paq has to be on standby to have his skin pricked anytime up until a few days before the fight- I think Arum's "Go To Hell" to Schafer was dead on. Were there really any questions about Mayweather and his camps character after what he pulled against Marquez- a lifelong featherweight who was pushing the envelope at 135, Mayweather brings him up to a fat 144 and then says he can't make the weight 2 days before the fight, increasing his massive advantage and the dumb public is then saying how great Mayweather is..... Roger, Floyd Sr. and Jr, classless scum of the earth.

many don`t like the mayweathers....and for good reason....but,i for one think they`re on to something here...

..because some manny nut-huggers say that mayweather`s afraid of him doesn`t change the fact that there are people(not just on this board and not just the mayweathers) that think manny`s a cheater...

and the fact is,that if that were true and became known,it would strike a serious blow to a fading sport`s credibility...

but, manny will never submit to such tests...and that`s his prerogative....and if he`s dirty, that`s probably a good thing for boxing.... fine with me...
other fish in the sea..like kessler in april...

that fight will either make me,or break me...

lemme add..i know theres no proof on this issue...and i understand why some feel this is a nasty slander on manny...

it is just speculation......... hate conspiracies and smears....but,this is a gut feeling i`ve had about the guy for a long time...

if manny truly is a once in a generation fighter, then god bless him...i just don`t believe it...

i`ll try not to comment further until something more substantial comes to light...don`t want to add fuel to the speculation without proof....and proof will be mighty difficult to come by...

my manny "nut-hugger" comment was ridiculous and out of line...i apologize...i respect everyone`s opinion on the issue...

looks to be a distraction a long time before the fight.

if this had happened right before the fight.

the fight would have been called off
