Are you a collector of anything? If so, what?

A guy at my office is a key chain collector; has at least 300, and from all around the world. He brought them in today and I spent an hour going through the collection.. REALLY neat.

I don't collect anything, but I would like to start and need some ideas :bigear:

(and Josh, I can't wait to hear what smart ass comment you'll have for me, it better be good) ;-)

True story from 1998

I used to collect micro machines. (You know, the cars)

I had hundreds.

Then one day, while on eBay I was looking for a particular one and I found a listing for every micro machine ever made. All of them. They were being auctioned with a current price of $800 +.

I started thinking - I could buy them and then I would have every single one.
Then I thought - well, what would I do then? I have every one.......what would I even do with them?

Then it came down to a decision that I don't need to collect them and I really don't need to collect anything.

To this day I don't collect anything. At all.

that's pretty bad ass, do you ever regret not buying the lot of ebay? (maybe for the kids/grand kids?)
I've never been a hoarder or a big fan of clutter and just keep the simple necessities- but looking at those key chains and hearing the stories and memories makes me wish I had SOMETHING like it to pass on one day..

The only possession I have that has memories and stories are WWII medals from my grandfather who later became a brigadier general.

Yep

Yep

I started out collecting baseball cards as a little kid. I had so many of them and went to all of the card shows, got to meet a lot of professional baseball players. Had to take out a student loan just before graduating college. Sold all of those baseball cards at just the right time (before the market for card collectibles went belly up). Looking back on it, it was well worth it as I use to seriously collect them as a kid. Developed really good negotiating and documentation skills at a young age. I'm sure a lot of others here did this too.

I have a collection of NFL hats as I love the NFL.

Recently, I have started a small collection of watches (Movado, TAG, Stuhrling, etc.)

I guess I'm not much of a collector or hoarder, but I do have the things I like.

When I was a kid I collected Wades. They were the little figurines you got in the Red Rose Tea boxes. I had maybe 50 of them. Then once I got older I decided they were too kiddish for me and I sold them at a yard sale. I don't really collect anything now except I do keep all of our Golf Cards so I can look back and see how good or bad I have done over the season and what courses we have played at. I also mark the cards if we liked the course or not so we know to play it again or steer clear.

Must of been a productive day, just giving shit, I have tons of downtime at work.

I collected cards but got out of that, I like old fishing lures and beer signs. Years ago you could find beer signs sort cheap at garage sales and such but now people know their worth so finds just aren't like they once were

I've never heard of Wades, but they look pretty neat- Something I would have been into as well.

As for the golf cards... not a bad idea! I'd like to learn how to golf. Ya'll should go to the golf outing, and you can show these nimrods a thing or two on the course ;)

the boss is in LA for the rest of the week.. when the cat's gone, the mice will play:00014

I like the beer signs too, I had my eye on one at the nickel arcade a while back- too many tickets for me and I gave up.
