I would not knock Kelly for his defense. It is amazing they ran the table considering Cincinnati only had 1 returning starter on defense and both corners from last year are in the NFL. They had a better than average defense last year when they had the players.

Kelly is not real sexy, but he is smart. The guy can coach.

Agree agree agree! They went into Oregon St. and took care of business. Sure, late in the year they gave up points, but a win, is a win, is a win. You cannot fake championships, and the guy won at Grand Valley St, won a conf. championship at Cent. Mich, and back to back Big East, which is not a gimmie league, and if are fucked up system was not the way it is, who the hell knows what might happen

Not knocking him at all, just stating his coaching mo has always been that way out score them and we win, well ND as I said went that way last time and got kicked in the balls with a buy out, so they might just go another way.

According to ESPN Kelly will be the N.D. coach.

Cincy is having their football banquet tonight & Kelly is going to tell his kids tonight about his decision.

The media was originally invited to the banquet, but now that is not the case.

What will happen to Fla./Cincy line :scared

bang fl. would of been hard already for the cats but now kelly who calls all the plays , well over 75% of them will crush the cats game plan now. if he does not coach i was taking fl anyway but if he says what wox just said and i just heard from a call 10 mins or so ago, that he is telling the people at banquet tonight and a few places said ND will have a new coach in the am, just like wox heard also, so would take my chance now beause line IMO will go up 3-4 fast might come down some but not to -10

Brian Kelly is the new Notre Dame head football coach.

The team's football banquet, scheduled for 5 p.m. ET, was closed to the media in a decision announced Thursday afternoon.

Kelly becomes the fifth Notre Dame head football coach since Lou Holtz's 11th and final season with the Irish in 1996.

Kelly, an Everett, Mass., native, has a 53-22 career record in six years as a FBS head coach, including a stop at Central Michigan from 2004-06. Prior to that, he accumulated a 118-35-2 mark in 13 seasons as head coach at Division II Grand Valley State.

There has been no official word on his coaching staff with the Irish, although both Bearcat coordinators-Jeff Quinn, who also doubles as offensive line coach, and Bob Diaco, who coaches linebackers-are expected to join Kelly at Notre Dame.

Other Bearcat coaches expected to come to Notre Dame are defensive line coach Mike Elston, quarterbacks coach Greg Forest, and strength & conditioning coach Paul Longo.

Tony Alford, who coached running backs for the Irish in 2009, is a candidate to remain on the staff under Kelly, although he also is a candidate for the running backs job at Florida.

Receivers coach Rob Ianello, who was placed in charge of Notre Dame's operations following the firing of Charlie Weis, accepted the head coaching position at Akron University Thursday.

Kelly attended St. John's Prep in Danvers, Mass., and was a four-year letter-winning linebacker at Assumption College. He and his wife, Paqui, are the parents of three children-Patrick, Grace and Kenzel.

Kelly could be introduced as the next head coach at Notre Dame as early as Friday morning.

Word from Bill Koch cinn enquirer on line and espn news says kelly told players monday if he left he would tell them 1st , did not even come close to happing like that and they are pissed, team leader marty gillyarad(sp) said kelly told him 3 times with in last 4 days that he would tell him and was not doing anything till after the bowl game, word from more then 1 person in cinn. very very pissed off at how kelly handled this, they feel he lied to them. not that he took job how he did it, he won't be coaching i will lay a grand on that in their bowl.

1 thing to take a job as a coach hell i left ga.tech to come to unlv back in the 90's in mid fall season, you do it right way though.

If Kelly is hired, he is unlikely to coach the Bearcats in the Allstate Sugar Bowl against Florida on Jan. 1, the Web site reported. Associate head coach and defensive backs coach Kerry Coombs would likely be Kelly's replacement for the bowl.
