I recently found out a classmate was shot and paralyzed a few years ago. I heard he was battling bad depression so I friend ed him on Facebook wit idea that maybe I was supposed to help him somehow.
Today his post about Christmas made me realize how alone he was. I simply asked him for his address so we could send him a Christmas card. This is his response.


That would be nice. Thank you for thinking of me during the holidays. I will be alone again this Christmas. I have been alone every Christmas since I got shot! I try not to get depressed! It is hard though! The address here is

I have no money at all, which means I can't send you a card. I'm sorry!! I can't even buy my son a a card for Christmas!! I hope you n your family have a great holiday n make good memories!

Anyway I know we have spread some cheer in the past. I will never forget the Herb Larkins story. If we could get him some Christmas cards from around the country it would be great. If you can see your way clear to through a dollar or two in it even better but not necessary. My wife and I are going to make sure he gets a card and a gift card to send to his son. My goal is to give him the best gift of all. FAITH.

Thanks bud! I have been trying to get some answers on visitation and what he needs. His phone apparently broke his brother told me. New one on the way. Calling the home directly today. Will keep you posted.

Finally spoke to John today. He's already received a few cards. He gave me a list of some things that he needs. He requested a journal, because he likes to write. Also a pair of reading glasses 1.50 strength. Its funny he could have asked for just about anything and he made those two small little requests. Anyway he was thrilled beyond belief to get the cards!

Maggot,
I live about one hour away. I know the place really well. I will make
A personal visit there. Do I need to let him know ahead of time. My
Wife and self enjoy Christmas helping at least one during the holiday
Season.

How I would say you could go visit him anytime, but he is in and out with doctors and appointments quite a lot I wouldn't want you to make the trip and have him not be there. So we will have to coordinate something

Couple more came today. Between here and church and a site with my high school alums I started, I'm hoping to hit 100 cards. A few more came today. Someone mentioned gift cards. Amazon would be great. He can get anything he needs from thwre,. Thanks guys

I spoke to John today his spirits are definitely being up lifted by the cards that he has received from people on here and from the Facebook group that I created. Because of John and the people who have generously helped me help John I am definitely in the Christmas spirit this year. Thank you very much guys

Just got a facebook message from John. He has this to say..

well I have recieved several packages this week from several people who I have not talked to in along time.. I just want to say thankyou very, very much for keeping me inn your thoughts n prayers. I am gonna open nthem on Christmas morning! I just got a last minute package from Arlene Roe just a few minutes ago. You all have brightened my spirits alot. So thank you , Merry Christmas and God bless all of you!!!!!

Maggot,just saw this..will send something out tomorrow...the Herb Larkins "angels" was unreal...not only was it great for Herb but his family...then a few years later we did the Micheal Madden "angels".....
