4 Unit Play. #530 Take Maryland -6.5 over Virginia (7:00 pm ESPN) Both teams have faltered during ACC Play as both teams are under the .500 mark. The Cavaliers are coming off a tough overtime loss to Georgia Tech on Sunday and that was emotionally draining for them and they will not have much left in the tank for tonight?s game @ Comcast Center. Maryland needs this win more because it is at home and will get it by double digits.

4 Unit Play. #537 Wilmington +8 ? over Old Dominion (7:00 pm) I truly believe the wrong team was favored on a neutral court, Wilmington will be a slight favorite. The Monarchs are just 2-2 @ the Convocation Center. The Seahawks are great balance and this game will go down to the wire giving us the cash with whomever comes out on top.

5 Unit Play. #572 Take Drake -4 ? over Creighton (8:00 pm) The Bulldogs continue to get very little respect despite emerging at the top of the standing in a very down Missouri Valley Conference this year. That being said, 18-1 is still remarkable and we will take advantage of a soft number considering Drake has already beaten Creighton once this year. The Blue Jays are coming off a disappointing loss to Southern Illinois scoring just 44 points and turning the ball over 18 times. They face a much better team on Wednesday and we collect with another top play winner behind Klayton Korver and company. Only three of the Bulldogs victories have come under tonight?s posted number.

4 Unit Play. #573 Take Nebraska +5 ? Missouri (8:00 pm ESPN Fullcourt) This is a play against Missouri, as all everything player Stefhon Hannah suffered a fractured jaw outside a night club over the weekend. Four other players are suspended for this game as well and this is just what the doctored ordered for the weak Cornhuskers to get back on track. Nebraska has won the last three meetings with Missou.

4 Unit Play. #582 Take Houston +9 ? over Memphis (8:00 pm CSTV) All season long many believed this would be the game that would trip up the Tigers in their undefeated season and getting close to double-digits is too good to pass up for the home squad Cougars. Houston has just one loss at Hofheinz Pavilion and can score points at will and thus will be able to make a comeback if Memphis jumps out on them early. Houston is coming off a 14 made three pointer performance and that alone can keep them in this game tonight.

Wednesday's Plays...

15 Dime ?

HORNETS

Take the Hornets as the home chalk tonight over the Warriors.

New Orleans continues to roll, having won and covered its last nine games. They easily handled the Warriors earlier this month, 116-104 as a 2 ?-point road dog.

In that game Golden State couldn?t handle Tyson Chandler, who had 22 points and 22 rebounds.

The Warriors are a perimeter team and fatigue could be working against them as this marks their third game in four nights and second in 48 hours.

Golden State is just 2-6 ATS in its last eight games overall, while New Orleans is 16-5 ATS in its last 21 versus the NBA Pacific.

Lay the points as the Hornets win and cover again.

10 Dime ?

KINGS

Take the Kings as the home chalk tonight over the Bobcats.

Sacramento is finally healthy with Mike Bibby, Kevin Martin and Ron Artest all back in the lineup. The Kings are 3-0 all-time against the Bobcats at Arco Arena, winning by an average of 16.7 points.

The Kings have been playing well at home lately, winning four of their last five games and averaging 117.5 points.

Charlotte is playing its fourth game in six days and will be hard pressed to match its shooting effort in Monday?s win over the Clippers, when they hit 56.7 percent from the floor.

Take the Kings minus the points as they grab the home win and cover.

5 Dime ?

DUQUESNE

Take Duquesne as the home chalk over UMass.

The Dukes are a much improved team this year, thanks in large part to forward Shawn James and guard Kojo Mensah.

Neither player was on the court for Duquesne last year when the Minutemen defeated the Dukes, 101-87.

UMass has lost its last two games, while Duquesne is riding a two-game winning streak.

Overall, the Dukes are 9-1 SU on their home court and their up-tempo game should allow them to extend their lead as the game goes on.

The favorite is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings of this series.

Take the Dukes as they grab the home win and cover.

Miami continues to struggles, playing horrible and averaging just 93.4 points per game. The Heat lost the last two clashes versus Miami in Orlando, 120-99 and 94-68. Take the Magic at home. Orlando is 7-0 ATS in the last 7 meetings and is 4-1 both straight-up and against the spread at home.

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008 10:00 PM EST.

Charlotte Bobcats (18-27) at Sacramento Kings (19-24)

The Kings have been in command over the Bobcats in Sacramento. They have won and covered the spread in the last 6 meetings at Arco Arena. Take the Kings. Charlotte has been a pitiable road team, just 4-13 away from home thus far this season.

Sacramento Kings - 6

3-Unit Play. #573 Take Nebraska +5 over Missouri (8 pm)

Without five key players due to suspension, I have a hard time seeing how the short-handed Tigers are going to put together a strong effort here. Gone is leading scorer and assist man Stefhon Hannah, and as a whole over 40 points and 14 rebounds. Nebraska should have a good opportunity for a road conference victory, and the inside presence of Alex Maric will help carry the Cornhuskers to the win in Columbia.

3-Unit Play. #587 Take Syracuse PK over DePaul (8:30 pm)

Syracuse almost found a victory at Georgetown last Monday in D.C. This time around I like the 'Cuse's chances to prevail, coming through in Chicago. The Orange are in need of a quality road victory, and any win away from home in the Big East qualifies as that. Led by the dynamic duo of freshman Flynn and Green, look for Syracuse to cash over DePaul.

3-Unit Play. #595 Take Seton Hall PK over Rutgers (9 pm)

In this toss-up, I'll roll with the more consistent, higher paced Pirates. Seton Hall has done a good job turning around its program under Bobby Gonzalez. The Hall have a lot of depth scoring wise, and this team's ability to balance out its attack offensively will be the difference. Seton Hall scores the win here.

Today's Games...

1. 400,000♦ South Carolina
2. 50,000♦ Villanova
3. 50,000♦ Iowa
4. 50,000♦ Kings

1. South Carolina- I've been following the Gamecocks closely since their ugly home loss to Tennessee about 3 weeks ago, just waiting for the perfect situation for them to redeem themsleves in front of their home fans... Well boys, tonight is the night, as the Bulldogs and their absolutely pathetic road play come to town just asking to get stomped on.
When I say Georgia has been "pathetic" on the road, I mean it. They're 1-4 SU in true road games, 0-2 SU on neutral courts, and 2-5 ATS overall when they travel. Their already average offense drops considerably from 69 ppg to just 60 ppg. But its their shooting percentage that falls off the face of the Earth, from a decent 43% to just 35% from the floor on the road (21% from 3-point)! Shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, as the Bulldogs have struggled mightily on the SEC highway, going just 1-7 ATS over their last 8 conference road games.
Match ups also strongly favor the Gamecocks, as they've got the clear edge in the backcourt with Downey and Frederick. But where they really have the edge is in the paint with their multitude of solid frontline players. Georgia has a couple of decent frontcourt guys, but very little quality depth down-low, and it'll cost them tonight.
So why do they bounce back strong tonight? It goes back to their home loss against Tennessee. They got embarrassed by the Vols, and in their next home game, came real close to beating a solid Florida team. Tonight they not only get to bounce back at home, but they also get to avenge 4 straight losses to this Georgia team in the process! That's right, motivation from their two straight SEC home losses, and quadruple revenge on Georgia... If that's not a recipe for a solid home win and cover, then I don't know what is!
Take South Carolina comfortably over Georgia as your top-rated play of the day.

2. Villanova- Don't like what I'm seeing from Pittsburgh, as they've lost 2 of their last 3 games SUATS, and it appears as though the injuries to guards Cook and Fields are starting to take their toll. Their last game in particular, a 77-64 outright loss to Rutgers as 18-point favorites, was pathetic. The problems were squarely in the backcourt, as guards Benjamin and Ramon were unimpressive on both ends of the court.
Enter Villanova, which has one of the better backcourts in the Big East, featuring sure-shot NBAer Scottie Reynolds and talented freshman Corey Fisher. Pitt's backcourt might be more experienced, but there's no question the edge goes to 'Nova. Want proof? Rutgers guards Chandler and Coburn combined for 35 points 12 for 19 shooting against this very same Pitt backcourt!
Edge in the paint goes to Pitt with talented forwards Young and Blair, but let's not get carried away. While its true the absence of Wildcats C Drummond hurts their interior defense, they still has 3 quality forwards in Cunningham, Clark, and Pena. We'll still give the nod to the Panthers frontline, but not by as much some people believe.
Bottom line, while we expect Pitt to come out fired up after their loss to Rutgers, not convinced they'll cover against a Villanova team who's strengths play to the Panthers weaknesses (namely the backcourt). In the end, Pitt likely gets the win, but 'Nova grabs the cash!
Take Villanova plus the points over Pittsburgh in this Big East match up.

3. Iowa- While we can all agree that Purdue most likely wins this game at home, I firmly believe oddsmakers went too far with the number on this contest. Its not that I think Iowa is a very good team, because they're definately flawed, but rather their style of play will limit the Boilermakers oppurtunity to extend the margin enough to cover in this one. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if this game mirrors their earlier meeting this month, a 67-62 Purdue win in Iowa City, and here's why:
An outright win at Michigan and a convincing home win against Penn State tells me two things about this Hawkeyes squad. One, they're finally starting to get it, and by "it," I mean coach Lickliters slower-paced, more methodical system. And two, the Hawkeyes may not score a lot of points, but they sure as hell can play defense, allowing just 55 ppg on 40% shooting over their last 5 games!
Herein lies the problem for the Boilermakers, as their offense is far from consistent, averaging 70 ppg at home, but on just 41% shooting. Defensively, their stout, but the Hawkeyes do match up well in the backcourt with guards Freeman and Johnson. Although they shoot the ball particularly well, both players should excel in their match ups with the guard-heavy Boilermakers. The fact neither team has a strong frontline only benefits the Hawkeyes in this one.
Bottom line, expect defense to be the driving force in this game, as both offenses struggle to establish consistency. In that case, its hard to envision the Boilermakers getting enough done on the offensive end to cover in this spot, especially considering the Hawkeyes will try to limit their possesions with their style of play. In the end, Hawkeyes keep this one well within the number.
Take Iowa plus the points over Purdue in this Big Ten match up.

4. Kings- Good spot for Sacramento, as they're finally healthy and have been playing like it, winning 4 of their last 6 SU (3-3 ATS). What makes their wins more impressive is that 5 of those 6 games were on the road, where the Kings have struggled, going just 7-15 on the season. Now back at home, look for an even better effort tonight, as the road-weary Bobcats come to town.
Over their last 5 games the Kings have averaged 107 ppg on 48% shooting, which is excellent. The problem is they're also allowing 107 ppg on defense, which obviously is a problem. However, I'm looking for the Kings to take the defensive intensity to another level back at Arco tonight, where they allow a more respectable 101 ppg on the season.
Bobcats have been garbage on the road, winning just 4 games all year, and going 6-11 ATS when they travel! Charlotte relies on their defense to make up for their below-average ability on the offensive end, problem is their defense lets up bigtime on the road, allowing opponents to shoot almost 49% from the floor! That's bad news against a Kings offense which is surging right now, led by speedy G Kevin Martin, who'll run circles around the Bobcats backcourt.
Finally, let's talk about fatigue, as the Bobcats are in their second game of this road trip, but playing their 4th game in 6 nights. Say what you will about their youngish roster, but anytime you have to run with a red-hot offense, its best to have fresh legs underneath you.
Bottom line, the Kings continue their red-hot ways on offense, but now back at home, they get serious on the defensive end, making for a solid home win and cover against a Bobcats team that's terrible on the road.
Take the Kings comfortably over the Bobcats in late NBA action.
