I said Oregon is a tough team. Did not say they were a great team. Oregon has the talent and skill level to compete with anybody in the country. NFL talent along with highly sophisticated passing attack.
Oregon is an average team. If the Trojans hadn't fallen asleep in the 1st quarter, the game would have been a massacre.

Nothing has changed in the month since I started this thread. Of course USC will put an end to the PAC-10 / SEC debate this weekend when the beat the team LSU beat by 4 by 25.

USC may be the best, but they will not be tested until January.

these people are the one and only ones that could give you a fair Top 20.

they know more about each and EVERY team in the country. there would be no bias in there selections. because they dont really give a shit whos No.1 or 100.

so why not have the sports books make the top 25 and go from there. it would be way more accurate than what you have now.

agreed?

Looks like USC has one of the toughest schedules in the country. Always enjoy getting the last laugh. I predicted USC SOS to be at least top 30, but looks like it might be a top 10 SOS. I was told USC has weak SOS, no elite teams, NOBODY ranked in the top 15, one of the easiest schedules in the country, free ride to the Rose Bowl. etc etc etc

:hail :hail :hail

I wonder if all those posters who bashed USC SOS in Aug. will stand up and admit they were wrong! Maybe I should name names along with quotes! :)

Not even close. I suggest you take a look at how Strength of Schedule is calculated:

The Strength of Schedule component is calculated by determining the cumulative won/loss records of the team's opponents and the cumulative won/loss records of the teams' opponents' opponents. The formula shall be weighted two-third (66 2/3%) for the opponent's record and one-third (33 1/3%) for the opponents' opponents record. The team's schedule strength shall be calculated to determine in which quartile it will rank: 1-25, 26-50; 51-75; 76-100 and shall be further quantified by its ranking within each quartile (divided by 25). For example, if a team's schedule strength rating is 28th in the nation, that team would receive 1.12 points (28/25 = 1.12). Should a team play a Division I-AA opponent, only the losses of the Division I-AA team shall be used in determining the opponent's record or the opponent's opponents' record.

USC will not be anywhere near the Top 10 or even the Top 25.

That SOS you are quoting me is BS! Why the hell would you calculate a SOS based soley on WINS and LOSSES? Explain that one to me. :mj03:

IMO, that is the WORST way to calculate SOS.

Why doesn't my opinion matter? Are we suppose to bow down because it is how the NCAA calculates SOS? Give me a break.

It is a BULL$HIT way to calculate SOS. Most would agree. Let me give you quick example so you can see the light how flawed this is.

Lets use USC and TEXAS as an example.

USC Schedule

@Ohio St. 5-2
Michigan State 4-3
@Tennessee 3-3
@Notre Dame 5-2
Maryland 4-3
@Arizona State 3-4

4 road games, only 2 home games

Texas Schedule

Boise St. 5-2
@Toledo 6-1
New Mexico 5-3
@UTEP 5-1
Fresno St. 5-1
West Virginia 6-1

4 home games, only 2 road games

USC opponents w/l record: 24-17
Texas opponents w/l record: 32-9

The NCAA would say Texas schedule was not only tougher, but a lot tougher. :mj07:

Maybe you would agree? You are quoting the NCAA SOS to support YOUR opinion. So maybe you do think this is a valid way to calculate SOS? :rolleyes:

NCAA also doesn't give a $hit about home/road wins. NCAA thinks winning at home and winning on the road is the same. Who cares USC (in this example) played 4 of their 6 games on the road. WHO CARES! Texas only played 2/6 o the road. Lets rate each with with equal value because it is just as hard to win on the road as it is to win at home. :flush:

Lets just calculate w/l record. It satifies The Judge :)

CASE CLOSED!

Again, your opinion of how SOS should be calculated DOES NOT matter when it comes to how the BCS determines their rankings. I never offered an opinion on this subject, I only stated the facts but as you have constantly pointed out, ?facts are usually not enough for the delusional!?

CASE CLOSED!

Don't shoot the messenger. I was merely attempting to educate you on how the system works. I'll know better next time.

By the way, I am not sure where you got the following "schedules" but it wasn't from any year I can remember.

Who said using the NCAA calculation was the way to determine SOS? Didn't the BCS take out SOS last year? I don't need the BCS to tell me who "I" think is the #1 team. "I" don't need to use the NCAA SOS method to determine SOS. "I" use Sagarin or anybody else who has a logical approach to determining SOS. So who the fawk cares about the NCAA SOS. Means $hit. I proved it. The question is, why did you post it? :mj12:

Strength of schedule is still used in four of the six computer rankings. The formula that I posted is the one used by those computer rankings. That is why Texas is ranked No. 1 this week and that is why I posted it.

Looks like sonmeone got their panties all wadded up. What's wrong Scotty, did someone dent your armor?

Before the season started I said USC would have a top 35 SOS. If you are going to make a comment on USC's SOS, please don't post the NCAA SOS calculations to support your opinion. It is flawed. I would use Sagarin who uses a logical approach in determining SOS.

Where are all those posters who said USC's schedule was so easy? WHERE ARE YOU? Before the season started you could see how difficult it was but some posters STILL commented how easy it was for USC. :mj07:

The beauty of this statement is that the NCAA SOS is the only one that actually matters. Whether it is flawed or not in YOUR opinion is not really important.

Take a look at Rick Tellshow's BCS site... http://www.tellshowbcs.com/

He projected the SOS calced above & has SC at 19 in the final calc...

I'm not sure what you are looking at but when you click on the link on that page that says:

new way to look at schedule strength

He has USC's SOS projected at 38th under his "toughest 6 Teams" column and at 67th under his "All Teams" column.

Not sure I can give this guy much credibility since he has Notre Dame at 53rd and 30th.

I'm also not sure what the third column is for. The lists are more that a little confusing or maybe I didn't spend enought time trying to figure them out.
